About me
Welcome to my profile, I am a fully qualified Integrative Counselling Therapist. My approach to counselling is a very open one; I tailor the work with what my clients need at the time. Counselling is an opportunity for personal growth and self-development.
My approach emphasises developing self-awareness within a safe, supportive environment to help you discover the path in life that is best for you. I work on both a short term and long-term basis with adults only.
My aim is to provide you with a relationship built upon trust, openness and honesty, where you can feel accepted without judgement. A counsellor will not give advice or offer the answers to your problems but will remain alongside you and help you find your own way forward. Working from a Humanistic approach, we will focus upon what is happening for you in the present; however, past and previous relationships clearly affect our present so these are explored as they arise. I take the lead from my client and work at their pace and challenge when appropriate to facilitate different/new perspectives and to help increase self-awareness.
I know taking the first steps to seeking therapy is not always an easy decision, but I hope to make this process as comfortable as I can for you. Along with my private practice I also assist at local hospices and Cruse working with Bereavement & Loss and charity work in Domestic Abuse.
If you choose to contact me, we will first arrange for a free telephone consultation, this gives you the opportunity to tell me what you are seeking counselling for and you can ask any questions that may be on your mind. If you decide to go ahead with therapy we can arrange an initial assessment session.
What to expect in your first session.
The purpose of the first session is to meet each other and decide whether we can work together. Attending the first session does not mean you have to commit to therapeutic a contract with me.
I see my first meeting with a new client as an assessment session. I normally ask a number of questions to gain a good understanding of what brings you to counselling and identify your therapeutic needs. This is important so we can identify together how therapy can be useful to you. Additionally, in the first session, I explain how I work (for example confidentiality, cancellations, holidays, fees) and what you can expected from me.
The first session is also a good opportunity for you to ask any questions about my role, experience and training as a Psychotherapeutic Counsellor as well as Counselling/Therapy in general.

I am committed to my own continued professional development and regularly attend further training to enhance my practice. I am a member of the British Association for Counselling and Psychotherapy (BACP) and adhere to their guidelines for ethical practice, which ensures client wellbeing and safety. I attend regular supervisory support for my client work and I have been awarded the BACP certificate of Proficiency.
