I am a member of Elemental Kickboxing Academy and having Personal Training with James at Elemental Fitness. This is for one to one tuition on my Kickboxing training as I approach the senior belts, and the gradings intensify. We have been focussing on stretches, strengthening my glutes and legs, improving the technique of my kicks and working on boxing and sparring combinations. James is very knowledgeable and fun to train with, not only am I benefitting from the physical training I am also taking on board and learning from the excellent advice he provides. I feel I have made good progress with the PTs, increased my knowledge and my confidence levels have gone up significantly. I also recommend the Elemental Fitness Circuits that I regularly attend on a Saturday morning. The circuit stations are varied providing a tough but fun all round workout and Sanaa who runs the circuits is a great motivator. They are a great way to compliment my Kickboxing training. My stepson, Jude is also having Personal Training with David and loves the sessions. Jude is wanting to compete in K1 rules kickboxing, so the PTs are to work on his fitness, endurance, strength and explosive power. Since starting the sessions there has been a significant improvement in all these areas and his overall attitude to training and with it, he is developing, an impressive physique. Overall I highly recommend Elemental Fitness and very impressed with the training and advice on offer and pleased with our progress. All the trainers and instructors at the club are really friendly sound people. More...

I started going to elemental about a year ago after a recommendation from my chiropractor due to an old back injury that needed core strengthening to avoid continued pain. I got pregnant shortly thereafter and the trainers helped keep me fit and mostly pain free throughout my whole pregnancy. I just went back 6 weeks postpartum and Chris asked if I had any lower back pain during labor or afterwards. I realized that I hadn't thought about my back injury in months! It didn't give me any trouble, not even during labor or postpartum! I really credit Elemental for preparing me for a relatively easy labor and recovery period. I am excited to have them continue to help me recover and equip myself to care for all the lifting that comes with caring for a baby. Throughout all my visits here I felt safely guided by experts who really know how to train people of all types - young, old, really fit, recovering from long time injuries, pregnancy and postpartum. Learn how to move correctly, with or without weights. Highly educated trainers ensure that everyone is safe. Sometimes you'll be closely supervised by a trainer, other times doing your own program (which they've designed based on your goals and your movement capacity). Quality equipment. The community here is friendly without being overbearing. You'll get to know the people who tend to work out at the same times of the week as you... but there's no "drink the kool-aid" over-enthusiasm like you may find at some martial arts places. People here are pretty loyal to this particular gym, but since you're already here you obviously are in on the secret so we don't really need to go on and on about it. The owner is a music guy, so you'll hear a wide range of good tunes in many genres. But not the blaring heavy metal that so many gyms use. More...

If you want to start exercising, but are not sure where to begin. Or if you are wanting a little more guidance or if you simply want to take your current training to another level, Elemental Fitness Lab can help you. This is not your traditional gym by any stretch. You will not be cranking out endless repetitions on machines, standing on one foot while struggling to do some bizarre movement or being pushed to the point of gasping for air. What you will do is learn how to move your body correctly, effectively, efficiently and safely. And in turn you will become stronger, fitter and more confident. If you cannot move your own body correctly, you certainly have no right to pile a bunch weight lifting on top of that. The trainers at EFL know this and are exceptional at teaching you how to move and will absolutely tailor your workout to you. There are no canned routines here. What I love most about their approach is that they turn your workout into play. You will crawl and roll on the ground, hang from bars, walk with a bean bag on your head, skip, swing clubs and kettle bells. And you workout bare foot or in socks. I love it!! This is NOT your meathead gym nor your stuffy gym. EFL is a down to earth, realistic and practical approach to fitness and health. You cannot go wrong here. Gabe Rodriguez is who I have been working with and I cannot recommend him any more highly. He is an excellent teacher and motivator and he is very knowledgable. I've been a member of Elemental Fitness Lab for over a year now and am happy with my progress, their philosophy, approach, and culture. I've done strength training since I was young, but picked up a lot of bad habits over the years. My other problem is sitting at a desk most of my day. I knew that I needed some more guidance than doing my own research or going to a exercise class or a gym with a just do it mentality without regard for movement technique.EFL has a multidisciplinary approach. It's not just stretching or flexing, not just movement, not just strength, but all those things. What's a basic workout like? Foam roll, stretching and movement, weights and cables using technique rather than maxing out, core and hip focus, some endurance...variety is the spice of life. The team at EFL regularly assesses my progress and customizes my exercise program to target what I want to accomplish and considering my weaknesses or immobility. I have a weekly session with a trainer to make sure I'm using correct movements and they often point out things I would never notice myself. When I'm not meeting with a trainer I'm free to stop in whenever they are open to do a program workout or just get the body movin. Results? - Lost weight- Put on muscle, even after having done a lot of strength training before- 3 pull-ups, before I was doing zero- More flexible in hips- Stronger back- Better posture- Cut a few minutes off 2000m rowYou only have one body, treat it right! I've always hated exercise. It wasn't valued in my family when I was a kid so I grew up to see it as a painful, grinding chore. As I got older, the lack of exercise in my life made my body weak, fat, prone to injury, and vulnerable to disease. I've tried a lot of ways to exercise: gym, P90X, ballet barre, yoga... I haven't stuck with any of them. One day I asked my chiropractor, the incomparable Dr. Phillip Snell, "If you had to recommend the best place for me to get fit, where would it be?" Without hesitation he replied, "Elemental Fitness Lab". I trust his judgment, so I girded my loins and made an appointment. My first visit was a surprise. I met with the owner, Chris Bathke. This was not like any gym or fitness facility I'd ever been to. Firstly, there was NO hard sell. Chris and the other trainers want this to be a good fit for you. Secondly, the space is not a cavernous room filled with intimidating machines. It's comparatively small compared to a standard gym, with a selection of interesting equipment. Thirdly, the training staff put a strong emphasis on restoring natural motion as a precursor to *everything* else. For me this was very important, because even though I'm very overweight my first priority was injury prevention, not weight loss. After a very thorough fitness assessment, and talking with me in depth about my goals, they made a fitness plan tailored to my needs and my physical challenges. I started working with a trainer twice a week and going to a group class on Saturdays. I've been at EFL for about three months, working with the excellent Blaine Brignell, on improving my strength, posture, mobility, flexibility, and resistance to injury. I'm extremely pleased with the results. I've lost some weight, I've gotten more muscular, and I feel stronger and more confident. But secondary to all of these benefits is the fact that for the FIRST TIME in my entire life, I like to exercise. Blaine, Chris, and the other trainers put together great programs with interesting exercises that are quite mentally challenging. I like this. I can't go to a gym and sit on various machines and work out like a robot. I'll die of boredom, I swear. At EFL, they use a lot of dynamic movements in which your own body weight gives the resistance you need. They also use kettlebells, bands, sandbags, slidey-things on the floor, foam rollers, medicine balls, things you step up on, stuff that hangs from the ceilings, long heavy ropes which you rapidly lift up and down to make them undulate... it's so cool. You lift, push, pull, carry, get down, get up, reach, heft, stretch, crouch... there are so many ways to move the human body and it seems like the staff at EFL try to make sure you move through each one of them. I feel more attuned to my body than I've ever been. I've got stamina I've never had before, and instead of being that girl who had to opt out of carrying heavy stuff because my back / knee / ankle / shoulder hurts, I can now participate fully, always employing the good posture and carrying technique I learned at EFL. There's often a lot of big physical work at my office, and these days I can more than carry my weight (so to speak). One last thing (I know this is a long review): the other clients there are awesome. All shapes, ages, and fitness levels, people just starting out and people at amazing levels of fitness, and each client gets the same personal attention from the trainers. Everyone's encouraging and respectful of each other. Many people know each other on a first name basis. There are no mirrors, no posing, no "meat-market". Everyone is friendly and relaxed, doing their own thing, focusing on their own program, with no competition or territoriality. At 35 years old, I finally like to exercise, and this would not have happened if I had not discovered Elemental Fitness Lab. Six stars. More...
