Q&As

I love working as a Clinical Psychologist because it requires me to think in very different ways, simultaneously, in order to provide the best possible care to my patients. Working at an advanced level in clinical practice requires me to listen very carefully in order to understand the specific, individual meanings a person brings to the events of their lives. In addition, I am also trained to utilise research at PhD level, which enables me to think critically about which therapeutic approaches have been shown to work well for more broadly defined mental health problems (e.g. depression, OCD). Making clinical decisions based on scientific research in combination with individual meanings is an intellectual challenge that I particularly enjoy. Whilst I believe that the most difficult work in therapy is always undertaken by the patient (personal change is never easy), I do feel rewarded when it seems that the work I have done has helped somebody to take positive forward steps in their life.

I spent the first 9 years of my career working in the NHS. In more recent years it has become harder and harder to feel able to stand behind NHS mental health services, as Government cuts have led to ever-increasing pressure on professionals to offer people less and less time to deal with their emotional problems. I decided to set up in independent practice because I wanted to be able to provide people with a service I could believe in and feel proud of. I try to keep my fees affordable in order to make this service accessible to as many members of the local community as I can.

I am highly trained and have a lot of experience in adult mental health services. I am familiar with working with a broad range of emotional difficulties. I am skilled in drawing upon and integrating a number of psychotherapy approaches. I will think carefully about your treatment and do my very best to provide you with a well-tailored treatment package designed to meet your specific needs. I also work from discreet premises, with off-street parking and a clinic room that is well heated and furnished to a high standard.
