I have had many dogs and think we do reasonably job with basic things but Gary excels above and beyond
No matter what you think dogs that misbehaved are not funny or cute they need training
You can waste a lot of time but before you try the rest and fail start at the best
Gary is amazing he works with the dogs but helps the owners
A well trained owner means a happy dog
The biggest mistake is not calling Gary
I wish I could give 10 stars
I cannot say how much he has helped us and our dogs

Thank GOD for Gary. He trained my once wild Doberman to a responsive, respectful dog. All of Gary’s training is straight forward and easy to learn. Practice is a huge part but great reward. Because of Gary I was able to walk into the airport with my 70 lb Doberman glued to my side, sat on command, stayed in position until I told him “free” and walked him onto the plane where every attendant complimented on how well behaved he was for a 7 month old puppy. I am so grateful I found Duke Dog Training! Gary is INCREDIBLE. I rescued a very timid pup this summer and knew that I was behind with training, since she was already 5-months old. I spoke with several trainers before making my decision, and Gary was the clear winner. He is unique as he is not just a dog trainer, but a dog behaviorist. From the very first lesson, Gary taught me not only how to properly communicate with my pup, but also how to understand and interpret her signals and actions. She was responding to commands and potty trained within a week of hiring him! My favorite thing about each lesson is that Gary gives you simple, easy-to-understand explanations for each exercise as well as any issues you run into with your dog (most of which were completely counter-intuitive to my own human thinking!). Gary is also hilarious and makes each lesson entertaining and fun. And he has a solution for everything! A few times, I reached out to him in between lessons for help with a particular issue that had surfaced with my pup, and he gave me actionable feedback to address the problem right away. We have finished the puppy training program, but I’m continuing to work with Gary for service dog certification. I brought my dog Finn to Duke’s Dog Training because he was reactive to other dogs on walks. Any time I left the house with him, I spent the entire time avoiding other dogs, and felt like I couldn’t take him anywhere. Gary completely transformed our dog. Most importantly, he trained me how to properly communicate with Finn. After only a few sessions, I was able to walk with Finn around a park filled with other dogs. Gary is an amazing dog trainer! We would 100% recommend him. We got a Nova Scotia Toller puppy and knew we were in over our heads. Super smart but very headstrong and energetic. Gary basically trained us to train him and it does take work but at 8 months he’s such a well trained boy!

Duke dog training was great for us! I was a bit intimidated at first because I knew it would be a lot of work for me. It’s really about training us and the pup too. We have a doodle and they tend to be stubborn. He is sweet and had good recall but that was it. He would bark at everything and jump on anyone coming near him. It was hard to have guests over. After only 8 sessions he is not barking (shaker can is amazing), he jumps far less (still needs correction. He’s only one and gets excited), he heels on leash and the best part is he lays in his bed on demand and can now stay there for 15mns. You must put in the work and the practice but it’s worth it. I highly recommend Gary and Duke Dog Training! He completely changed not only the behavior in my golden retriever puppy but my relationship with my puppy too. He taught me just as much as he taught my dog and after completing the 14 weeks of training I am so happy with the results! My pup went from showing aggression around his food bowl, pulling constantly on walks, nipping and jumping on people constantly, etc and now he is so well behaved and it's a joy to take him for walks and have people over without worrying about him knocking over people when they try to come in the door. Passionate, well learned and experienced with all breeds. He took my 4 month old Belgian Malinois from a disaster to an absolute stud by his first birthday. Very fairly priced, consistent and easy to schedule or cancel. Also, please be ready for homework.

I have been working with Gary over the past six months on Service Dog training with Olive. We just completed the service dog training and decided to go away for a month road trip to really put the training to the test. Olive has been an A+ service dog, in and out of cars, hotels, elevators, grocery stores, gas stations, you name we have done it....with ease that is! My dog, Pepe, is almost a new dog after training with Gary! Pepe was a good dog when he was alone but as soon as he saw another dog, there was nonstop barking. I had a huge problem when I would take him on walks or take him out to go potty. He would bark at every dog he saw and it got to the point where I dreaded taking him out because he would bark the entire time. I wanted to be able to take him on walks but I was embarrassed by how much he would bark & wouldn’t listen to me. After working with Gary, my dog no longer barks at dogs, he is so well trained, I can take him to public places & he will sit there & be a good boy the entire time. He is now a certified service dog and gets to fly with me. I took him on his first flight & he was well behaved the entire time. I now get compliments from friends & strangers on how well behaved my dog is. I can go everywhere with Pepe & not be embarrassed or nervous about how he is going to behave. Gary helped us with our two dogs. One was a 8 months who is a big good ball and Gary helped us with basic obedient training. With our second dog who was a bit more complicated, she was being aggressive and very territorial in the home with new people coming over. She would also charge at other dogs on walks and be very protective of me. I have worked with 2 other trainers before and none of them came close to the difference that Gary made. My dog is way less anxious, much more open to new people and doesn’t charge at dogs on walks anymore. I thought I was stuck with a stressful dog and just had to work around it but Gary changed that and as a result I am way less stressed! My husband and I just completed the 14 day training package with our 10 month old cattle dog mix, Luna. We started the training when she was almost 8 months old. We called Gary because we were experiencing some aggression and resource guarding (especially around food) that was escalating VERY quickly. Our puppy was friendly in the early months and out of nowhere she was snarling, snapping, and even biting us on occasion. Gary was confident and experienced, and he knew he could help us. After two weeks of training with Gary (probably about 4-5 training sessions) Luna was not showing any aggression around her food which was a HUGE relief! Gary gave us all the tools to be better dog parents. He showed us how to set boundaries with Luna, correct her mistakes, and reward her good behavior, and he watched us closely during training to make sure we were all on the same page. Gary held us accountable for doing these things every day and really making training a part of our lifestyle. At first it was work, but now it’s just how we live! I can honestly say that Luna is a different dog now. It’s a really scary feeling when your puppy starts showing signs of aggression out of nowhere, but Gary got us back on track and we’re more prepared than ever. He was always there for us if we had questions during the week, and the best part is he has an amazing personality and a great sense of humor. We did the 8 week puppy training course for our two pups. Gary is a great balanced trainer who really understands animal behavior. He uses positive reinforcement training methods, and will apply correction where needed. He also tailored the training based on the personality of each puppy. He is a very experienced trainer who will help you have a peace of mind in understanding your puppy’s behavior and mindset. It was very worth it for us to have Gary as our personal dog trainer because he helped us filter out and organize all the training information we were finding on the internet. It was so helpful to have a timeline and training plan for our pups. I have worked and trusted Gary for over 10 years. He has trained two of my dogs and is constantly checking in and making sure that I fully understand the training and consistent with it. He makes training fun, relevant and is extremely flexible. My 10 year old Boxer still perks up when he hears Gary’s voice. We have a young Husky Puppy with all the normal high energy traits. Gary taught us how to work with that energy to get Ricky working with the rest of the family, The training we received was also helpful with our older husky as well!
