I attended a short day session. However--I enjoyed every minute of it. The instructors are full of enthusiasm that immediately rubs off the second you walk thru the door. I will be back for more time.

If you have an itch you need to scratch...and that itch is to hone your DJ skillset, then you can "baby scratch" your way into ATX nightlife stardom! Or of your like me and the only way you drop sick beats is throwing records on ground, this is still an awesome place to get your turntable learning on!I came in to audit an intro class here one evening and it was the most fun I ever had learning how to do something waaay out of my knowledge and comfort arenas.The equipment here is state the art and each station has dual turntables and a mac so you can track your beats and your progress. The instructors are not only pros in the business, but their passion is contagious! They are a non-profit and work with a lot of youth programs, which I think is awesome for community engagement and being another fantastic Eastside staple only adds to the character of this place!By the end of the class, I was not only simon-says baby scratching on both turntables, but felt like I could walk out and confidently nickname myself DJ Madame Magic Touch! Very impressed with this place. Definitely unique & a place for music lovers!!! My brother in law's eyes lit up right when we got inside.

These guys love what they're doing & love helping others find their way into it too. From music theory to mixing & scratching, you can learn all kinds of stuff here. They even have people here that know about music production & composition.

I'm totally not the DJ'ing type, but even I had some fun getting my hands on the turntable. :)

Great equipment & has that "underground music" vibe.

Sidenote: I would give it a 5 star but I haven't had experience with a full lesson yet, so I can't say I have enough experience with the place to "love it." That last star will have to wait until next time!! More...

This place is one of the reasons I feel lucky to live in ATX.  I could make this review super long and go on and on about how great this place is for several different reasons but since it is summer, I will narrow it down to the kid's summer camp. My son is currently enrolled in a summer camp here and not only does he love it, but it is worth every penny! Parents, you feel me. How many times have you paid for a summer camp only to hear complaints from your kids about going to camp or just mediocre reviews from your kids when you pick them up? Well, not here. My son is having an absolute blast. Every employee I have come in contact with from the Dub Academy have been kind and knowledgable. I have to give a special nod to Payton, who is directing the camp my son is currently in. What a nice guy! Super patient and just pleasant to speak with. This place is [ENTER CURRENT POSITIVE DJ  SUPERLATIVE SLANG HERE] DJ school I've ever been to. (illest?  dopest?).  OK, it's the only one I've ever been to, but I can't imagine it getting much better. I only took a 90 minute course so I can't really comment on their 5 week training courses but based on my sampling (hey-oh!) I would expect it to be a pretty great experience.  My teacher was easy-going and didn't make me feel like an idiot when I couldn't baby scratch better then...well...a baby and he was able to get out quite a bit of information in just a short time.  The equipment was all well kept and the space was well thought out and made it easy to learn.He also let us have 15 minutes at the end to just do whatever we wanted, which for me was basically massacring LL Cool J and A Tribe Called Quest but I didn't care cuz it was a ton of fun.  It looks like they run a lot of deals (currently there's even a yelp one) so you can get a taste of DJing for very little investment.  Who knows, you could be the next big thing.  But even if you don't really enjoy it or if you're straight up terrible at it, you'll definitely gain a greater appreciation for those that can do this and I think that's worth something.  So what are you waiting for?  Drop what you're doing and go drop da bass. Love this place!  Can't wait to go back.  Took the 101 class and look forward to starting 102.  Didn't know ANYTHING about DJ'ing walking into the class and walked out confident about hopping right into the 102 course!  Thanks DJ Sharkweek!Classes have a max of 6 students.  My 101 class only had 4.  So we didn't  have to fight so much for the instructor(s) when we had questions or needed help or just needed to know if we were doing things right! I can't say enough amazing things about this place! I moved to Austin and started taking classes here and I was hooked. The people who work here and the teachers are not only really cool, but they seriously know their stuff. Being able to learn from DJs who have been doing it for a long time and still love what they do is so awesome. They love watching us learn and pour their knowledge out in every class. Also, don't let the name fool you. They know, support and appreciate a ton of genres, so don't see it and think "dubstep school"!I would highly recommend anyone who is thinking about DJing to check this place out. Even if you just love music and want to try something new, take the first course and see how great it is! I never expected to do as much as I have with them. I'm currently taking my fifth course overall and every one of them has exceeded my expectations. More...
