Darren DJ’ed our Prom last night and he was amazing! So professional from the outset with detailed phone calls, a visit to the venue and a curtesy call the week before to check everything was still ok. He prepared a playlist that was not only spot on for the age of students there, but that covered all the genres. All timed around our evening schedule but with the flexibility to change things as and when we needed on the night. Darren was amazing with the kids, talking to the whole year group on the mike and mingling whilst collecting requests. His lights and equipment were fab, just what we needed to keep the party going. We had our end of term rainbows disco on Monday & instead of using our mobile phones and a Bluetooth speaker we thought we would go all out & hire the "real thing" & we were in no way disappointed - our girls loved it, as did we! The music played was fantastic and really got us all in the party mood. We were a small group but Darren really got involved with us all & made our end of term party one to remember. We are hoping to hire him again for our Christmas party this year. I would have no hesitation in recommending Just School Disco's to any school or Rainbow Unit, Brownie, Scout or Guide unit. What’s the secret to keeping a party dancing all night long?
The secret is there's no secret. The truth of the matter is there isn't one particular formula that fits all. Like any DJ that takes pride in what they do, what we really want at every gig is a packed dancefloor with people enjoying themselves all night long. I could play the exact same songs in the exact same order on one night and have a packed floor, but the following week in the exact same circumstances, have a quiet dance floor. No 2 gigs are ever the same and that's influenced by circumstances beyond my control. However, where a good DJ excels, is in the ability to read each gig as it plays out and adjust their set accordingly. This might involve one or 2 mic announcements, a change in music genres, some fun songs (macarena for instance) or a rethink of a clients given playlist. It's a skill that you develop, but no DJ worth their salt would ever say they could 'guarantee' a packed dancefloor - anyone that does is lying to you ( not a good start to any transaction).
How would you describe your ‘style’?
I'm unorthodox. Many DJ's will play certain genres in sections following a loose direction. This does work and clients find it easy to have a rough idea of what's coming next. I will incorporate a bit of this, but I'll also ping from one genre to the next. For instance, if I'm playing a couple of 90's dance tracks don't be surprised to see me suddenly drop in a 60's sing along song as well. I like the idea of leading a crowd but also keeping them guessing.
What do you love most about your job?
Having a dancefloor full of people enjoying themselves.
What inspired you to start your own business?
I've always been a self starter, a mobile disco enables me to mix that with something I love.
