What makes a great website?
A website has two primary functions: to be found and to provide information. It also has to be easy to navigate, easy to find the important information, and pleasing to look at. Too many moving images or gimmicky bits really don't work!
What questions might you ask a client when starting a new project?
A website or print project (brochure, logo, business card) has to project the right 'image' and 'voice' of the person or company. You have to know who the design is being aimed at; businesses, consumers, which age demographic - so there are lots of getting-to-know-the-business-and-the-owner type questions.
What information do you need from a client before you start work?
As much as possible! But obviously it depends on the project! I have a list of questions I can send out which helps the client think about the various bits of information needed.
What sorts of printing projects do you usually cater for?
Anything from a simple business card to a full colour brochure or leaflet, invoice, letterhead, invitations, delivery books, order books... I have even typeset and laid out children's books (novels for children), magazines, banners, vinyl stickers, packaging boxes... there's not much I haven't handled over the years.
Describe your creative process.
After talking to the client about their business (and their ideas) I will let it 'sit' in my head for a while. Every so often the idea will be almost immediate... other times I will doodle a number of designs. I try not to bombard the client with too many ideas though. I like to design logos in a single colour initially. if they work in one colour (or black) it means that they can be used more widely and be instantly recognisable.

What do you love most about your job?
Producing something that the client loves, and more importantly, works for the client!
What inspired you to start your own business?
I've nearly always worked for myself... I love the flexibility!
Why should our clients choose you?
Expertise. Efficient. Enthusiasm. And I can spell. And use apostrophes properly!
