Having never worked with a web designer before I really didn't know what to expect. The first thing I would say is that James is extremely quick, in answering emails, phone calls, questions and ultimately designing and delivering a new product. I am pretty rubbish at this sort of stuff and James explained everything to me clearly offering suggestions that would enhance my business, but also listened and implemented my ideas too. Regarding budgeting, James was able to give me a quote that suited my budget but didn't compromise on the quality of the design.. What makes a great website?
A few things I find make a great website:
- Careful planning and attention to layout
- Designing the user journey through the website
- Keeping within 1 theme whether that's a colour font or both
- frequent communication and feedback from the client to web developer
What questions might you ask a client when starting a new project?
In an initial consultation, I like to get an idea of what their business is about, what they expect from their website and then go through a basic layout of the different pages that they would like on their site.
It is also good to determine what functionality the website requires and what they need to be able to edit and update on the website
What do you love most about your job?
I love the whole website development process (well, maybe not so much the testing!), from design a theme and template to creating a user experience which is ascetically pleasing but also highly functional, to communicating back and forth with my client to make sure their website is just how they want it.
What inspired you to start your own business?
I've always considered myself an entrepreneur, starting my first limited company at 16. I found before that, that I had a keen interest in computer programming and website development and over the years have developed websites for my personal projects. So I thought, why not use my skills to benefit other people and business? That's how it all started!
