Calm Rivers Counselling (CRC)
My name is Abby van Gerven BSc (Hons) Ad.Dip. PsyC MNCS (Accred)
About me:
I am a Person-Centred Psychotherapeutic Counsellor with an Advanced Diploma in Counselling and Psychotherapy accredited by the National Counselling Society (NCS).
I have experience with a wide range of issues including low self-esteem, low confidence, anxiety, relationship issues, abuse, bereavement and grief, work pressures, bullying, depression and military service family life pressures.
I also currently volunteer at a charity offering counselling and support to children and young adults with a variety issues, from general anxiety issues to sexual abuse.
Before coming to counselling, I pursued a career as a teacher, so after university, I worked with children and young people extensively. It was during this time that I began working with children and young people with various Mental Health issues, and I realised that this was the area in which I wished to work. Subsequently, I have worked for over nine years with children and young adults with Mental Health issues.
I offer counselling to adults and young people and I am a member of the National Counselling Society and I adhere to their ethical framework for good practice in Counselling and Psychotherapy, which includes regular supervision sessions to ensure that I maintain high standards in my work. The National Counselling Society is accredited by the Professional Standards Authority.
What I offer:
Sometimes it can be difficult to speak to those we know as we fear being judged or fear that we could place unnecessary burdens upon them. What I can offer you is a safe, welcoming and confidential place to explore those issues. I offer Person-Centred counselling; this means that I am non-judgemental and I won’t tell you what to do. I will, however, provide understanding, empathy, acceptance and warmth. Together we will explore the things that are troubling you to help you to gain insights into your situation. Counselling is designed to give you the tools to build up your self-confidence and self-esteem and empower you to help find a way towards self-healing and personal growth. There are some things in life that cannot be changed, but we can alter the way we feel about them; our journey together will help you manage your emotions around these experiences in a more positive way. I am bound by confidentiality in our sessions, so you can feel free to talk openly and know all that is said will remain confidential.
