From the moment I booked I was dealt with by two gentlemen; Dave & Bob. They worked at the front desk, they were such wonderful hosts! Information was provided, conversation was had, and they gave such warm greeting on arrival - nothing was too much trouble for them.||||The room they had specially chosen for us, was delightful. A two floored room with a bendy staircase leading to the bedroom overlooking the manor grounds and lake. Two made up swan towels on the bed, and a bottle of wine beside. ||||We had food at from bar menu situated in the main lounge, we were served by lovely staff. I had the local game burger and my partner the chicken ciabatta - both were delicious! But I did have to remove the bacon from my burger as it was so overdone it was solid, my partner chips had been once cooked already resulting in them being very hard and inedible. On the other hand, my portion of chips was enough for the both of us.||||Thanks for a great stay. More...

We stayed here for a spa package which included one night at the hotel. The main building is beautiful so is the garden area around it. Our room was clean and tidy but very average, nothing special. The view from our room was not pleasant, we were staring at the bins. Unfortunately the Friday night we stayed there, there was also a wedding reception which sort of ruined our relaxing spa stay. We were hoping to have an early night but unfortunately due to the noise this wasn't easy. Luckily we had some ear plugs with us! Our room was on the same level with the wedding reception and even though there were heavy fire doors that kept the noise to an acceptable level but unfortunately the wedding guests kept opening these doors and walking down our corridor part our room to get to a fire exit to smoke cigarettes. Some of them also used our corridor as a socialising place I guess to have a "quiet chat". Well it was nice to learn all these things about their lives lol. If it hadn't been this house factor I would have rated this hotel as 5 stars but unfortunately it lost a star because of this. ||But I have to make a special mention about the restaurant. The food over there was absolutely gorgeous! We had the set meal included in our package deal which was 3 course meal and it was amazing, the presentation of the meal, the taste, the amount was all perfect. The waiting times for each course of the meal also was just right and the restaurant service was excellent. Our waitor (who I found out later was restaurant duty manager George P.) was such a polite nice young man. He really went an extra mile to look after us :). I have a mild but allergy and he made sure there was no nuts in anything that went on my plate and he was very thorough to inform me if any of my meal was prepared in the vicinity of nuts. Luckily my allergy is not that severe but I found him very professional regarding this. ||||Also lastly if like to mention another polite young man who was at the reception on 22/11 and 23/11 who was also very polite and helpful. The staff made us feel very welcome there :) More...

Six of us met here to surprise and celebrate a family birthday. From the minute we arrived we were treated exceptionally well- we explained it was a surprise at reception and the really lovely lady said she would keep up the pretence. She and Dave -a delightful young manager-explained about there being several Xmas events on over the weekend and notices were put up at reception to warn us about the noise and possible inconvenience. Considering the number of parties, gatherings etc the hotel coped incredibly well and we were not inconvenienced at all. We were on a dinner, B&B offer and the waiter explained clearly what the offer included and what our allowance against the a la carte menu was. Not all hotels bother to do this and you are left in the slightly embarrassing situation of not knowing what you can order. We must have met 6/7 waiters and waitresses and all were charming even in a very busy breakfast on Sunday when. a second dining room was opened to cope with the numbers. Food was excellent and served very hot. Our rooms were in what I imagine is a recently refurbished area-all new carpets and beautiful bathrooms. All spotlessly clean. I asked at reception about walks in the grounds and was given a map and information sheet to follow. The whole experience gave the feeling of an efficiently run hotel with a team working well together in what could be stressful situations. We will be back-our offer was booked through Telegraph travel and was extremely good value for money. Many thanks to all staff More...

We were 3 couples who booked a Saturday night dinner/bed & breakfast package. We were a bit worried with the recent reviews, but we all had a great stay. ||||Our rooms were good, clean and well decorated - tv, hairdryer, iron, kettle, USB power points, comfortable bed, alarm clock, good shower. We had room 223, which was a little bit bigger than the other two rooms and had two windows. It was at the end of a corridor, so was quiet too.||||Dinner was excellent. No wait to be seated at 7.15pm. Food and drinks orders were taken quickly and arrived soon after. The waiting staff were attentive and helpful. The package allowed us a main meal and either a starter or a dessert. You could add a third course if you paid for it. We had a mixture of soup, salmon and bread/olive starters. For mains we had a selection of chicken, fish (hake) and chicken satay curry. And for desserts, two chose the brownie and fruit sundae. The food was delivered quickly, was hot and tasted great. ||||Sunday breakfast at 9.15am involved a short wait of about 10 minutes to be seated, but was worth the wait. Very good. ||||We checked out quickly, with no queue. The whole experience was very good overall and was excellent value for money. We didn't use the pool as time was limited and it was a pity that rain restricted our use of the grounds, which look very nice. More...

My husband and I stayed overnight on 14th November as a nice start to our cruise . We stayed for the dinner, bed and breakfast in an executive room. We have stayed a few times before and it really is a relaxing start to our holiday . The hotel itself had beautiful grounds and especially in the Autumn the colour changes of the leaves on all the different trwws are just stunning. Reception staff very welcoming with friendly smiles . Check in was quick and efficency . We were asked what time we would like dinner that evening . The bar is very nice and relaxed with a cosy feel about it. Lovely when the fire is on. Bar staff were efficency and drinks were served in a timely manner. Yes there was a few people waiting but not for long at all. Dinner that evening was the same as always tasty , served hot and beautifully presented . The chocolate orange brownie is my all time favourite pudding . Drinks were offered within 10 minutes of being seated . The restaurant appeared well organised . |The room was clean , nicely decorated with very comfortable beds . We both slept well . Breakfast was buffet style but you could order other items on the menu such as kippers , salmon with scrambled egg etc. We had the full English Breakfast which was delicious with quality sausages and bacon. No issues with staff . I did witness a guest being extremely rude to the waitress though which was really awful . However the waitress dealt with it perfectly in a polite and helpful way despite how rude the guest had been . All staff seemed friendly and helpful .|We also used the spa and had an hours massage each which really was great . I do recommend a visit to the spa for a massage . |I look forward to our next visit in February. More...

Had a really lovely spa day here. The venue was quiet with a lovely pool and spa and good facilities; it's tucked out the way which made it easy to switch off! Towel and a huge fluffy robe were provided; worth remembering slippers or pool shoes though. Lunch was a bento box which was nice enough but nothing special. The treatments (facial and massage) were excellent, however I would have appreciated it if the therapist had spent a couple of minutes speaking with me first... I climbed on the couch and the treatment started with barely a word. Overall a wonderful treat and excellent value for money, I'll certainly be back in the future. More...

Just returned from a few days staying at Chilworth Manor, and I disagree with some of the comments regarding the staff and dining experience. |From when we arrived to when we checked out, we found the staff to be attentive, friendly and very helpful. The restaurant was busy, but there was always enough staff to cover the tables without any problem, and nothing seemed too much trouble for them. The food was good, freshly cooked and very generous portions.|The only issue I had was, a major part of the reason for booking this hotel was because it has spa facilities, however they only had 2 available appointments for a massage during our 3 day stay, and although I booked an appointment and arrived 10 minutes early, my husband was going to use the pool while I was in the treatment room, however there was a water aerobics class, so the pool was out of use for general swimming. After waiting in the reception area for approx 10 minutes I was then told the therapist had just emailed to say she was not going to be in work that day. This was very disappointing to say the least especially considering the very limited available appointments that were offered, I think it would be a good idea if there was a sign to say when the pool cannot be used due to exercise classes etc, and also if there could be more appointment times available as although the selection of treatments is very good, it is impossible to book in for any of them!||| More...
