What’s the secret to taking a great photograph?
The second to taking a great photograph is connection, either with the person or the situation, and focus. When I am on a shoot at an event, I am alive to every little nuance of the room or the subject. It takes that level of attention to take a great photograph.
What questions might you ask a client when starting a new project?
I would carefully clear up the client's expectations, to make sure we're on the same page before we start:
- What is the deadline?
- What is the budget?
- Do you have examples of work you'd like to emulate in any way?
- Do you want to shoot on location or in the studio?
- How many files would you like edited and retouched?
These questions will vary depending on what sort of project it is, some are more complex than others.
What do you love most about your job?
I love meeting new people and getting to work with them. It's great to hear people's stories, or to attend important events in their lives. How special is it to take someone's portrait, something that can be fraught with anxiety? How unique is it be able to attend a stranger's wedding or engagement, or their birthday, and be among their closest friends? Being a photographer is wonderful.
What inspired you to start your own business?
I started my own business because I enjoy working directly with clients and getting out into the world to do my work. I also enjoy a very healthy work-life balance this way.

My style of event photography is to stay out of the way and capture people truly enjoying themselves. I like to use natural light where possible, and I use high end gear that can handle low light with ease.
