Was here for a close friend milestone birthday..party of 9. A little cramped in that back table, but makes for a more "intimate" dining experience. Belle Vie serves some very rich French classic style food- Leeks as an appetizer, were tasty and light, I had a steak au Poivre that was outstanding! Belle Vie is a great little neighborhood French bistro located in a somewhat unattractive stretch of Wilshire Blvd in West LA. If you're not looking for it you'd probably miss it in the long stretch of fast food restaurants, nail salons and dry cleaners. But it's a great find and worth seeking out. It feels very traditionally French, including the menu, the wines, the decor and the servers. There's a pretty stained glass panel on the ceiling. I've had the cheese plate which was a good size (big enough to share with 2-3 people) and all the cheeses were delicious and served at the right temperature, the pei mussels which were plump and in a flavorful broth, and the seared tuna steak which was rare in the middle and cooked to perfection. They also have several wine flights so you can try several different wines without committing to just one. They give you a map that shows which part of France each wine is from along with tasting notes. The last time we were there they had a really fun, lively band playing. They were squeezed in the small area just inside the front door and were literally spilling out onto the sidewalk. They have happy hour every day from 4-7pm. There is usually metered street parking available on Wilshire or the surrounding streets. More...

You'll have a hard time finding a better French place in this area so if you're anything like us, check it out at least once. The mussels are tasty but the croque madame is what's really good.
