I have been a student and teacher at Balance for over 9 years. The yoga teaching standard is very high, which was my motivation in studying to teach with Gerry and Maureen. Teaching is student focused with attention to safe practice and to developing strength and flexibility in students of all ages. The teacher/student relationship is friendly and open. More...

I am currently attending the 5 week beginners yoga course at balance, and it is the BEST yoga class I have been to. This is the first yoga class where I have actually felt the calming and relaxing benefits of yoga. I am also double jointed, and the teacher, Gerry, is mindful to take this into account and modify my body so that I can do the poses safely. Can't wait for the next one! :) More...

I have been going to Balance Yoga for around 5 years. It is a lovely facility, clean, up to date, well run and with competent and friendly receptionists and staff. It does all sorts of Physio, chiropractor and medicine as well as having some excellent yoga teachers - primarily Maureen and Gerry, but with lots of others including guest teachers. The classes are well structured and you can choose a class to suit all abilities.Maureen and Gerry are particularly good at assisting students and will always help to suggest an alternative variation e.g. if you are carrying an injury. The yoga studio is light and welcoming and of a very high standard. It is by far the best yoga setup I have tried in Scotland. If you want some escapism try the aerial yoga classes on Saturday afternoon.Charlie More...

This place is my little heaven in Glasgow. It is the place that introduced me to yoga and I will be forever grateful for that. Great teachers with so many years worth of experience that understand your needs and know your limits. I love coming back to it whenever I can :) Highly recommended yoga studio, especially to completely beginners. More...

I go past this place all the time and finally ventured in the other day, on a hunt to find desiccated coconut. I unhelpfully told the shop assistant I was looking for coconut without being specific and she thankfully worked out what I meant and led me right to it. This place is a total haven for health food/natural product nuts - it is positively packed with everything you could ever want. I spent a bit of time looking at the selection and was pleased to find shredded as well as desiccated coconut as well as coconut flour which I haven't seen anywhere else in Glasgow. You'll also find coconut water and oil for very reasonable prices compared to other supermarkets that sell it. Moving on from the coconut, they stock a lot of other food products and supplements as well as vitamins, beauty products and juices of interesting origin. There was a short wait to pay while the customer in front of me chatted away but nothing to complain about. Now that I know where to get coconut supplies, as well as cacao I'll be visiting here a lot more often. More...

I love Natural Balance! It's a fantastic wee shop.  The main man, known to me and my friends as The Oracle, seems to know just about everything there is to know about health foods and supplements. The other staff are really helpful too.For a small shop, they have an extensive range of products, and often stock items that you can't otherwise get in Glasgow.  Sometimes, if they don't have what I'm looking for, I'll go in the next week and will find it has magically appeared, as the good man himself has ordered it in. For example, during the 'great buckwheat shortages' of summer 2012, when no other shop in Glasgow had buckwheat flour, Natural Balance had it - from a different supplier. Which made me very happy as I could continue making my buckwheat pancakes. They also sell the best digestive enzymes I've found (Viridian for those who might want to know), and have recently started selling CoYo, which is the most amazing coconut based yoghurt and my new favourite thing. They stock lots of the Biona brand - the breads, beans, coconut products etc, and they have useful gadgets like sprouters. AND they sell raw chocolate, including Pacari. It's almost as though this shop is tailor made just for me and my strange and very specific requirements :-)They also tend to stock only the best quality items - unlike other health food shops that could be mentioned. And it's not just for food and supplements either - they have Epsom Salts, and lots of skin lotions and potions and such like too. It's definitely worth supporting The Oracle and his wee magic shop, they are providing a great service. I have patronising these folks for the past fifteen years but they have only been in Glasgow for a couple years. They used to be located in the Paisley Piazza in the Fresh Food Mall section, across from a fish monger. My wife and I would go to get my knee pills or other assorted health food necessities. The same thing that kept me going to that small stall has me as a faithful patron of this much larger location.  Wide selection and decent prices. I tend to use these folks for Miso paste and Enada tablets which are tougher to get these days. More...

As I have mentioned in previous reviews, I just can't get enough of vitamins and health foods. I am a complete hypochondriac and am always looking for something to give myself a little boost, especially after the long winter we have just had. Natural Balance is a great little independent health food store and they stock lots of major brands as well as their own exclusive products. I popped in for something for my skin as it's been looking a little tired of late and the friendly staff member gave me some advice and tips and I came away with some vitamin E. It isn't too pricey either and the knowledgeable staff can give you some invaluable health tips. More...

I well love this little place. Not one of my usual haunts (a pint of cider counts as one of your five a day, right?) but on occasion a place I'll pop into for a nosey. Or to kick start a week long (and only week long) health binge. It looks slightly dilapidated (just up my street) and surprisingly has quite a bit of character even though it does look like a Holland and Barret's reject. And, with me being a H & B reject is a good sign. Needless to say, they stock similar health food, supplement and remedy stuff in here. Though, it's got a more homely, relaxed feel about it. This is heightened by warm, friendly staff who could easily have you walking out of here with armfuls of stuff that you seemed to really need at the time. I don't know if it's just me but when entering a place like this the usual 'How are you?' question can take on a whole new meaning. For instance: "Hello and how are you?" "Oh good thanks. Well, a little tired what would you recommend?" "blah blah blah (hands over pills)" "Great. (pause) Oh and what about for healthy hair, skin and teeth..?" You can see how it goes. I suddenly turn into the walking dead and convince myself that something must be done about it. Anyhoo, this is a lovely, local little place which completely tops H & B. So if you're looking to get healthy or maintain your health with all sorts of herbal remedies give this place a go. More...

Natural Balance looks and feels like a Chemist shop: it has the same sort of shop front and shelves as an independent store, and leans heavily on the sort of natural remedies that are an alternative to those chemicals behind the counter. Unsurprisingly, the staff know their stock and there are plenty of remedies for everything from infertility to depression: they have a good range of essential oils and are certainly not excessively expensive, given the sort of stuff that they sale.
