About

I’m a graphic designer based in Essex. I specialise in brand identities along with graphic design and I write a blog providing client resources and design news.

A tiny, tiny little agency (me!) that works big…ish! Of course being small doesn’t mean working small.

Ian was recommended to us and we are so happy that he was!! Ian has an incredible sense of perception that enables him to produce branding images that are perfectly fitting to the unique business concept, the local environment, the local culture and potential customers. ..Ian spent time around our studio and local set-up, observing the environment and neighbours, analysing local architecture; and the unique aspects of our business and real gemstones of the local history...It is clear that he really assesses every aspect in order to produce a truly robust concept and the best results for his clients......

We received a very comprehensive and inspiring portfolio, various choices of images, logos, colour palettes, from which we were able to select the branding and colourisation that we all agreed was absolutely perfect for our studio and business activities......

Just a few days ago, a really respected marketing gentleman from Wimbledon visited us unexpectedly, and really really liked our logo.......(thanks to Ian!!), as it really does encompass our business concept and also the nature of the local environment.....

We have more ventures ahead of us, and all I can say is that we have been so happy with what Ian Bonner has created for us so far, fills us with confidence and we know that we will always look to him in future

Q&As

On hiring I would request the budget that I would be working with. The next question would be what is required by the client for their business. ie. brand logomark/identity, stationery, print, etc. I would then quote on the information given to me and give a timeframe.

Once the quote has been agreed I start by researching the company that are hiring me and their market. I then enter the ideas and sketch stage, where I would draw up some ideas that I will shortlist and make digital. When this is complete I would take 3-4 of the ideas forward to present to the client, usually with mock-up ideas to show the identity in situ. Hopefully the client then will narrow down the options and if amendments are needed or the client would like to see them in different scenarios I would do this.

Once amendments have been made and the brand logomark is decided I would then apply it throughout the brand identity. If printing is required I would complete this by outsourcing and distribute digital files to whoever requires them.

I always research a company and their market before starting on a project so a history of the business would be beneficial. The available budget is essential also. I would need to know what you want to achieve as an organisation and how you want to get there.

When a client describes their ideal logo in detail then they don't need a designer as they can do it themselves. There is nothing worse for a designer to be told how to do their job. Having a clear brief is not the same thing as knowing what you want.

Not knowing what will come next. Graphic design by nature is different for every project that arrives on your doorstep and the challenge is to make each and every job is unique and something to be proud of.

I think it is that the buck stops with me. I live and die by the decisions I make and would always do best by the client to ensure they leave happy. If I can do that for them and go the extra mile I'd like to think they would be happy to work with me again and would also encourage others to do so.

I think clients should hire me because I will ensure that a job will not leave b creative branding if the client is not happy with it. I pride myself in my work and I am confident that when people come to me they like what I do and what I am prepared to do for them to ensure they know that they have got value for the fee I have charged, and also that even after project completion I am only at the end of the phone or an email to discuss any issues or questions they may have.
