Q&As

Converting a garage is generally the most cost effective way to add floor area to your home. Pretty much all garages can be converted, we have to look at overall value and the positive impact you will gain for a set cost in terms of upgrades and refurbishment. We help you keep the end in mind and strike a balance in terms of cost, time and quality.

Our advice starts with the Why... and then how this fits into an overall masterplan for your home. Access to the main house is key and we can look at structural changes small or large to make this an effective use of space. We have to consider light, heat and overall quality of the space. This includes making the floor levels right with insulation and upgrades to the walls and ceilings.

There are ways of converting any loft - some have head height which tends to make things easier. However even with a restricted height we have clever solutions for you relative to the overall design of your home. Existing homes sometimes have modern thin 'fink' trusses which can be replaced and then cut away. Sometimes the floor itself has never been designed for anything more than a ceiling and then we add new structure such as beams bearing onto the wall heads with new floor beam from the new steel. How we access and use the space moving forward should be considered in terms of compliance with the Building Regulations - we offer a bespoke service that will give you the most efficient and cost effective solution.

Firstly we can look at structure and existing roof height - then we consider access and how the space can be used. There is a law of diminishing returns in construction and a balance has to be found that answers your needs for space and activity at the right cost.

I design from the inside out and the outside in. Looking at how the home looks from the outside and how the internal spaces can be redefined to work with the overall form of the elevations. For me interior design is all about the activities of the space, how you want to use and populate the space with furniture and storage. We gather what you like and don't like from wider projects and build an ideas board and a palette then define the very best of what you like bespoke for your property.
