Amazing! Dr. Shay Redfield is the most thorough, honest and down-to-earth vet I've ever met. She is a good investigator and was able to quickly get to the root cause of what was going on with our beloved cat. We came from a vet we liked but the business was bought by a chaotic hospital that was overly expensive and didn't arrive at a diagnosis. Our experience at West Marin Pet Hospital in Fairfax was exceptional. They love animals and it shows. From Denise at the front desk, to Rachel, the animal tech, everyone is warm, friendly and welcoming. I think their prices are reasonable and most importantly, you feel that they care about your pets. We LOVE Dr. Redfield! I work in the animal welfare industry and am very particular about veterinarians and the care of my animals. She is incredibly welcoming, compassionate, and sensitive to the needs of my cats. She is reasonable, thorough, and is always willing to work with what is best for your family. Her RVT, Rachel, and receptionist, Denise, are also great. The hospital is always clean and the space for each species is setup to best suit them. I couldn't recommend this veterinary hospital more! I went to see Dr Redfield for the 1st time today. I came with my very frightened cat who has had previous problems with urinary stones. Everyone at this office is so warm and welcoming ...starting with Denise and then Rachel, all making my cat and myself feel at ease.Dr Redfield is gentle and smart. I am so happy to have found her!Everyone there could not have been kinder or better to my cat who was incredibly relaxed considering his fears.I was a pet sitter for 20 years and have met many vets...I am so impressed with this whole office and Dr Redfield!! We followed Dr. Redfield from Tamalpais Pet Hospital and are glad we did. She is incredibly empathetic and clearly loves animals. We've been to other vets who have "discriminated" against our German Rottweiler because of his breed and has insisted on putting a muzzle on him which only stresses him out and gives him anxiety. Not Dr. Redfield. She saw him for the teddy bear that he is and put him at ease immediately. She treated him for a broken claw and skin allergies and he is doing great. I can not recommend these guys highly enough. Our rescue chihuahua needed surgery for a hernia. Our regular vet quoted us 3k plus for surgery after the 350 they had already charged for xrays and blood work. I thought that sounded excessive so I called around and the new West Marin Per Hospital quoted us 1/2 the price. We brought our little dog in and had her home the same day. She has recovered really well and we felt she was in great hands the whole time. I highly recommend West Marin for their price and their top notch care. More...

Let me start this review by saying that I live in Mill Valley and I happily drive to Fairfax to see Dr. Redfield, Rachel the  vet tech and Denise the front office person. When it comes to veterinary practices, I believe it's very important that the animals will be taken care of beautifully as well as people that care for the animals. They are one of the rare practices where both are true. I have dogs and guinea pigs and have gone through lots of emotional experiences with both groups of my animals. They not only provide exceptional medical care, but exceptional emotional care too.  Dr. Redfield, while being an expert and very knowledgeable across many animal groups, is also one of those doctors that is able to say what she doesn't know well and is willing to learn and improve her care.  No arrogance or ego!  Don't hesitate to bring any of your animals to this wonderful practice! This is the only vet I have been to where my dog actually pulls me towards the door when we walk by on the street! From the day that they first opened, the technician Rachel has given my dog (who is very skiddish and does not usually like people) treats and made him feel comfortable and even excited to go in! Rachel and Dr. Redfield definitely have a way with animals and know how to approach a dog that feels threatened by most people. Luckily, we have only had minor health issues so far, but each one has gone very smoothly, and my dog leaves with his tail wagging each time. Since it is on the main street, we often stop by just for a treat, which is very encouraged by Rachel, and makes a HUGE difference when we actually have to go in for a real visit. More...

What a great find! They are small and very caring from the moment you walk in. They go over costs with you and work hard to help you cut costs. They truly care about your pets visit and want them to be stress free. They did the best lion cut on my long haired cat who was matted. I have taken her to cat groomers when she gets matted and this was by far the best cut and stress free. I am so happy and relieved to find a wonderful local vet. More...

I'd like to let fellow lovers of our furry friends know about a great local vet. Today I went to Dr.Shay Redfield with my long haired Siberian cat. What a great experience from the front desk to Rachel the technician and the vet. Their prices are reasonable and they go over costs prior to administering tests. My cat has been having some health issues and I was concerned about costs. They took the time to help me cut costs. My cat is home and very happy. They even did an amazing lion cut on her as she was matted. Siberian's have tons of hair and need to be shaved 2 x a year when their 3rd coat gets too heavy. I've taken her to many groomers and west Marin did the best job. They are small and you feel they really know your pet. My dog came with me to pick her up and was her usual vet nervous. The vet asked me to stop by for fabulous dried duck treats whenever I can so that she is comfortable there before they see her. They truly care about hour pet and their emotions. We are SO lucky to have Dr Redfield here in Fairfax, Ca.  She took care of our dog the same day we called and treated her immediately.  I've had dogs for many years and Dr. Redfield is very knowledgable and educated in her profession; she was direct and didn't suggest 'extra'  treatment.  The staff made our dog feel relaxed and they are very gentle. Dr Redfield saved my dog's life!  I will be indebted to her for the rest of my life.   My senior golden retriever decided to eat a tennis ball last summer.   Genius. The fabric became lodged in his intestine and stomach.   Dr Redfield performed 2 surgeries on him that literally saved his life. She stayed in contact with us every step of the way and was incredibly professional and warm and caring the entire time.  I can attest firsthand that Dr Redfield is an excellent veterinarian... one of the best.  I have 3 dogs and 3 cats .... so I certainly have experience with vets. Dr Redfield truly cares about the animals she works with -it's very obvious.   She is also wonderful with my son, who is an aspiring vet. And, she is wonderful with the owners too. The best veterinarian in Marin, Dr. Redfield, has used her vast experience to create her own pet hospital in a convenient location in Fairfax. The environment is carefully thought out to ensure that pets, and their owners, feel welcome and as stress-free as possible. Dr Redfield has been my favourite vet for many years. She saw me through some tough times with our dog and was always informative and so empathetic. She understood our dog and always put his needs first and going above and beyond in explaining things to us. Our cats and other dog love her too.
