What’s the secret to taking a great photograph?
I could answer 'composition',rules or light theory...etc. etc and none of that would be wrong. The fundamentals...the tricks and quality equipment are important...I don't know if you can definitively rank which is the most, but one of the best things about photography is how bold of a statement can be made by a frozen millisecond in time...whether it's for a wedding or a marketing campaign for laundry detergent. I think the 'secret' is doing your best to visualize the end result first.Experience and those aforementioned fundamentals, tricks and fancy gear will give you the confidence, ability and toolbox; but you have to approach it like an artist...know what you're trying to say, and prepare for it...but you can't force it, you have to 'paint' it[find it].
What questions might you ask a client when starting a new project?
Every project catalyst is different so the questions would vary...but ultimately, no matter what the final deliverable, it is important to establish messaging and medium right away. So most of my questions will be about audience, where this will live, and what metrics will be measured. They go hand in hand...and they can help set expectations, prioritize for the project, as well as help identify the best way to execute the assignment.
What do you love most about your job?
Getting to use creative energy, even in the seemingly non-creative tasks. Collaborating with and learning from some very talented individuals, and using technology to create.
