My dog does not do well when I leave town. He has some behavior issues with cleaning supplies as well:-/ Urban Hound staff was great with him and gave me prompt updates about how he was doing when I called. I would definitely use them again!

I detest when comments are made that are either fabricated or just for purposes of getting one’s way-However, everyone is entitled to an opinion. (if you will) I have an EXTREMELY fearful schnauzer, and I’ve brought her here as many times as I can afford (time/money) and my dog does not play with the little dogs-oh no she goes right in to the big boys and girls side with alacrity! She has spent many a vacation here, overnight so I could take a business trip etc. and never once did I have and issue! I work for a very large cash Advance company and all my customers who own dogs are well-informed that Urban Hound is the place to take their pets for a safe loving environment! I am writing in response to a previous comment made by Justin Delores. I have worked at Urbanhound for a year now and I saw the beginning and end of Justin's employment with us, which was over 6 months ago. He "had to leave" because he was terminated. It was not his choice. He was fired for various reasons some of which he accused us of. Primarily he was let go for disrespecting management and fellow employees, specifically the employee he had mentioned Matthew B. They had a falling out in their friendship that lead to a tense work environment and it was a danger to the pets and staff. Matt was the kennel manager and cared about every dog and their safety. Sadly, Matt is no longer with us as he left to purse another dream. I would just like to say that as an employee here I love every dog that comes in here and I make sure to love on every single one. Our experience at the Urban Hound exceeded our expectations! We boarded our Boxer for 4 nights, and we had some special requests for his feeding schedule. They were more than kind about accommodating him, and all of our requests were fulfilled! I called a couple of times to check on him, and each person that answered the phone knew our dog by name and had specific notes about what our boy was up to and how he was doing. We had to put our dog into boarding unexpectedly over the weekend and after seeing some of the other facilities in town that looked and felt like a jail we were pretty skeptical about trusting someone with him. We pulled up to Urban Hound and when we were greeted at the front desk we immediately felt relief, they were so friendly and helpful. We left Eddie over the weekend, and got him some pampering (grooming) as well and when he was picked up he was one happy pup. We have been bringing our dog here for almost 2 years. The staff is friendly and very caring. Our dog ate her way out of 2 enclosures when overnight boarded because she's a pit bull and wanted to be out! The staff at Urban Hound called us while on vacation and said she had some blood in her stool from eating the enclosure they knew exactly what to provide our dog with pumpkin and helped to make sure she was okay and not needing any special trip to the vet. They're outstanding and I would recommend this place to anyone looking for a fun place where dogs can be free and well cared for! Our dog runs into this place excited to be there! We have done boarding and daycare all is outstanding.They also have a staff members that will snap chat you daily videos of your baby!! So far, so good. I know the past owners had a horrible reputation, but my dog has stayed here at least 4-5 times for extended periods of time in the last 8-10 months without incident and my dog is challenging. Of course I don't allow him to go into doggy daycare so that limits the chances of anything going wrong. I find the staff friendly and my dog always seems happy and well fed when I pick him up. I took my 5 month old Dalmatian here and boarded him for 8 nights. I was already crying when we pulled up because I didn't want to leave my baby. He's never been without me for a single night. The GM was leaving when I got there and she immediately knew who Pongo was and she helped me carry his stuff inside. She took the time to make me feel better about leaving him. I asked a million questions and she was very patient with me and understood what I was going through. She told me to call whenever I wanted to check up on him. So I did. I called a few times and they were never annoyed they seemed very patient and understanding. I even received a picture of him while I was away and it made me so happy. We have been taking our 1.5yr old Dachshund to Urban Hound for 6 months now.  He is there 5, sometimes 6 days a week, and we couldn't have asked for a better team to care for him. Walter is always excited to go and play for the full day while we are at work, and when he comes home he is happy and exhausted.  This summer they have started swimming as well, and I think it goes without saying that I trust the team, otherwise there's no way I'd let him swim without my supervision.  The facility has a great open door policy, and all of the staff are helpful and willing to accommodate requests or answer any questions.  I was definitely a bit concerned with the negative reviews; however, I believe the current owners are not the same as the timing on those reviews.  We have had nothing but a positive experience for 6 months straight now.My only note would be that I wish they extended care later into the evening!  We sometimes have to juggle schedules as we work full time as well as attend school, and a non-boarding evening option would be such a huge help for us.  But the pricing is more than fair for the hours they do post!All in all, I highly recommend the facility, the staff, and the services for anyone looking for a quality doggie daycare. Excellent facility run by a family who cares about each pet they take in. We were wondering about an indoor facility but the dogs get to play with each other in a large play area and are taken outside to the back each day. Their rooms include comfy cots and none of the up-selling we've experienced in other towns. Great facility and people. They have become our facility of choice. We love Urban Hound! The owners/staff are so friendly. They are always open to answering all our questions and are always happy to see our boxer, Stella. She is a nervous dog but whenever we drop her off/ pick her up, she always looks like she had the best day ever! We never had problems booking Stella, even if it's last minute. This happened on a few occasions and they always took her in. Like I mentioned earlier, great staff and owners! I did read a comment below about not being able to see the place. I was able to see where the dogs play and did understand that I couldn't just walk in unexpected. From what I saw, all the dogs looked happy and the place was very clean! After reading all of the recent negative reviews, it made me a bit worried.  I love my dog and always want him well taken care of.  So I dropped by and asked the owner, Merrell, about what was going on.  He explained, in detail, the ex employee reviews and the dissatisfied customer reviews. He also stated that he was inspected by animal control (they do drop in inspections regularly with no warning) and received a clean bill from them.  He also allowed me to walk into the fenced area and i'll tell you there was no smell of urine or any evidence of dog poop.My dog is always excited to go for daycare and boarding.  He always comes home tired and with no evidence of any injuries.  I'm satisfied that Urban Hound continues to provide an excellent haven for my dog and will continue to recommend them.Merrell and Heather - Thanks for giving Hurley the extra attention he needs and taking time out to go over the recent reviews. I have started taking my Luna to see Jen to get Groomed thanks to a fellow Yelper's review (Dale G.)Luna has been here twice now, once in the winter for a trim and just last week for a summer cut. Luna is a Golden so she has the long tail and feathers on her legs.  We had Jen cut all the feathers down to the blonde and cut back the long tail.  We LOVED how it came out.  So much easier to brush and dry after she goes swimming.The only thing I didn't like was that the last time I went a girl met me in the parking lot with a leash.  Luna had her leash and collar on, but the girl slipped the leash around Luna's neck and was trying to walk her. Luna isn't use to any leash that chokes her. So she was scared and pulled away even more until I told the girl.  So next time I know to tell them that I will walk Luna in myself. More...

Took my dog here to board him over night. The girl working here was very nice and said he did great. She greeted Stu and was very good with him. As we left, I forgot to mention Stu is a known escape artist. So, I called and she took note and assured me he would be in good hands. That made me feel good. This will be our new go to place. We have taken our puppy (8 month old golden) there twice for 24 hour stays. It is very convenient for us due to our lack of dog sitters in the area. It is very affordable at 30 bucks for 24 hours. You need to remember to bring updated shot records as they need the bortatella shot within a certain amount of time. I believe it's 6 months. Call to confirm that. We always being his food, obviously. It is clean and well organized. I would recommend this to someone coming to the area or just can leave your pet along for whatever amount of time. Thanks. I love this place! I know they take good care of my dogs when I am away because as soon as they figure where we are they drag me to the door. They recognize me when I call, they keep me aware of when the dogs immunizations are getting close to being due, and ,most importantly....THEY LOVE DOGS.When I call to make a reservation, they ask me how my dogs are doing and always make a personal reference to them, so I know they know the dogs.I always feel totally secure when I leave my babies with them.  They get to participate in Doggy Daycare during the day, and then they sleep together at night.  The grooming services are reasonable and they always come home looking great.The only thing I would say that would make it better is that their lobby carpet needs to be changed to tile, because it does have an odor (because dogs have accidents....mine included) and I wish the daycare area had a little more room. BUT their love of the dogs, their professionalism, and my dogs happiness supersedes these small aesthetics. More...

Cheryl provides terrific grooming service for my mid-size dog. I have tried several different groomers since moving to Reno, but Cheryl's kind and gentle manner is so great my dog wiggles and jumps with happiness when she takes him in. Cheryl calls when completed so he does not get anxious from too many dogs. The four stars are for Cheryl. The non-fifth star refers to the business. The building has a boarding cage in with the groomer and the dogs have nothing to do nor any employee interaction to keep their interest so they just stand there and bark. The terrific front desk person has left. I was concerned that the lack of air conditioning might be unhealthy for the dogs. Cheryl more then compensates for the lack of amenities. Thanks Cheryl. This review is for their grooming services only. I have a Cavalier King Charles Spaniel, and they have long, flowing, lovely hair. That is, until you move from LA to Reno and they are exposed to wet, mud, and snow! My Penny also grew a crazy undercoat during the cold, so suffice to say she was a hot little mess when I brought her in.I called lots of groomers around the area to get quotes and see what the waiting list was like. I was quoted over $50 most places and there was generally a two week wait. Some places I had to leave messages and they never even called me back (Lulu's Pet Grooming, I'm looking at you!). Urban Hound called me back right away, gave me a good quote, was right in my neighborhood in the NW, and could get her in the next day. Sold!The salon is no frills as it is a boarding facility also, but it is clean. Regarding the smell someone else wrote about, it definitely has an eau de puppy to it, but what else would you expect? It's not a bakery for crying out loud. Cheryl came right out at Penny's appointment time to meet with me and discuss what needed to be done. Since Penny is a family dog who loves to hike and not a show dog despite her breeding, we decided on a summer cut so that she would be cool and ready for the sun and water (and able to avoid more matting issues!). I got the call that Penny was ready two hours later, and upon picking her up she looked great! Shaved for summer (I'm sure there are some appalled Cav owners out there but whatever), nails trimmed, ears and tail still longer and silky, and smelling so nice and clean. She was also as happy as could be, and they told me she got the award for best behaved that day. When we got home she tore back and fourth across the house for a good ten minutes she was so happy. I can tell she feels so much better having all that hair gone! The cost out the door was $40, which, considering how hairy she was, was totally worth it to me. The only things that I removed a star for are that there are some clipper marks on her coat where it is uneven, and they do not do teeth here. I have a really hard time doing her teeth at home and was hoping for it to happen when she got groomed, but no dice here even for an extra charge (which is what I was told at most other places I spoke to). Pretty small issues though in the scheme of things, and I will be coming back!Tl:dr- No frills grooming salon in the NW with quick appointments and a great staff made my Penny shine like new! I've been boarding my two dogs for the two years and these professionals have been the most accommodating, knowledgeable dog boarding business that I have ever used in over 35 years of dog ownership. Both of my dogs require medications, not only do they administer the medicines efficiently but they have isolated my one injured dog in an open air area where she is free to interact with other dogs threw a slated gate without fear of further injury at no additional cost. I have used other day care / kennels in town where the dogs get to play all day, but this is hands down the very best. Not a single complaint about the care of my two boys, which was not the case elsewhere. Great service, great location (not on a busy street), great facility. Tons of fresh air and the dogs get very cozy sleeping rooms. Good customer service and the boys got individual walks in the park on top of being able to play all day!!
