This, and their sister yoga center nearby (Stanton street yoga) is pretty much one of the best kept secrets in New York. A slice of heaven. And if you want to go deeper with your yoga, they have enough classes and even philosophical ones covering the Bhagavad Gita to keep you satisfied. Their community kirtan that happens on Tuesday and Thursday is quite a delight too. More...

This is a review for Ira Ruiz, who I have gotten to know and love over the last few years that I've been practicing at Stanton Street Yoga and The Bhakti Center. In a city (and world) saturated with yoga teachers, Ira is a true teacher who lives and breathes the Bhakti yoga tradition, both on and off the mat. Her teaching style is grounded in a deep well of ancient wisdom, digested through her lived experience, and shared with humility, humor and authenticity. And in my experience, practicing yoga on and off for 20 years in different corners of the world, that is a rare and beautiful thing. From the minute you walk into a class with Ira, you are drawn into a warm and friendly space that is instantly calming, no matter how shitty your day has been. It's like a big hug from an old friend. Ira embodies a genuine mood of service and creates a sense of community such that every student feels a sense of belonging, no matter what their level of experience. Throughout the class, she leads us through creative sequences that open up the mind, body and heart space. My physical practice has flourished under Ira's guidance, particularly when it comes to alignment and breath work, and she's given me the confidence to constantly challenge myself. This is because I trust her knowledge and feel safe in her hands, and because she encourages a sense of playfulness and curiosity. One of the things I love most about Ira is that she, too, is always growing, always learning and always sharing her deep philosophical insights. Walking the yoga path in a city like NYC is no mean feat and Ira shares her journey with authenticity and humor, weaving a thread of lived wisdom into every class. Not only does this mean that no two classes are the same, but she truly teaches by example. Ira is a shining beacon of truth and beauty in what feels like a sometimes dark and chaotic world, and her faith in humanity is what reliably restores mine. She has moved me to happy tears more times than I can count, and emerging from an Ira-induced savasana is like a mini re-awakening (Every. Single. Time). Simply put, Ira makes the mystical and transformational world of yoga totally accessible. I love her beyond words and am so grateful to have her in my life. Experience it for your yourself! More...

Awesome, welcoming, chill place. Many diverse aspects of body, mind, and spirit for a range of people to get into: yoga, vegetarian cooking, Ayurveda, chanting and music, yoga and science, seminars on self-improvement, etc.

This is one of the best yoga studios I have been to in NYC for overall attention to the students and a holistic approach to the mind and body. My favorite instructor is Julie Pasqual who generally teaches Wednesdays. The class is quite intimate and starts with a reading and singing to Krishna. You don't have to be religious to join in since the Bhakti Center welcomes all. Go in with an open mind and get to singing because it's such a beautiful chant that relaxes you before diving into practice. One day after class, I had the pleasure of attending an event for The Festival of Lights and what an experience! They had local vendors serving Indian food, henna, performances, and singing. There was also a vegan food event and a smores' night I couldn't make it to, but if you're all about community definitely give this place a try!Included with class: matts, blocks, blankets, invites to their monthly events. Note to newbies:-Chant sung: Hare Krishna, Hare Krishna, Krishna Krishna. Hare Hare, Hare Rama, Hare Rama, Rama Rama. Hare, Hare.-Look at pulsd for an intro course if you want to test out More...

Took a set of 3 Sanskrit classes, mostly out of curiosity and I really enjoyed the friendly atmosphere. this is a wonderful introduction that took our little group from knowing nothing to learning the alphabet and chanting simple verses. Our teacher Vasudeva is not only very knowledgable but also kind, and never made us feel like the bloody beginners that we are. thank you :) More...

I have attended several level 1 yoga classes here and loved them! The room is spacious and does not get crowded. Teachers are all very friendly, welcoming and professional. Mats are provided and free of charge. The only suggestion is to have more beginner/ level 1 classes offered at night time (preferably 7pm) during weekdays and in the afternoon during weekends.
