I've been going to Midtown Strength and Conditioning for a few weeks now and doing personal training with the owner Maria. I'm SO happy I found this place. I've had personal training sessions with other trainers elsewhere and was never satisfied. I have particular fitness goals and I feel that Maria really cares about my goals and genuinely wants to see me succeed. She pushes me to my max with a challenging variety of workouts while also meticulously ensuring that I'm doing everything correctly so that I don't get injured. She also has guided me on nutrition a bit which is a nice bonus. After just a few weeks I can already see results. Her personal training sessions are super reasonable in price and SO worth the investment. It's also huge to feel comfortable in the gym you're working out in, and this gym is awesome. It's clean, there's a good variety workout equipment, and it's well ventilated. The people are super nice too. :) More...

I've been working out with Camilo since July of this year. He is an expert in this field and makes learning complex lifts and exercise fun and easy! Not only is he a great coach, the facility at large is just straight up cool. A lot of cool mural art and graffiti style writing that depict positive affirmations really makes you feel like you are apart of something that nobody else has. It's in a great location with free parking off the street, which is rare in any downtown business. Also, everybody I have met here is super nice and supportive. No ego trips or judgements, people are all on their own fitness & strength journeys so it's more about encouraging each other to keep moving forward and staying true to their own path! The real kicker is that I'm getting stronger and more mobile each week. My endurance and recovery time is also improving with each week. It is my new home for physical development! More...

I've reviewed Midtown via Yelp, which is provided below.

Nothing has really changed. I've been coming here regularly since September 2013 and haven't stopped -- well the occasional injury and laziness do set in once in awhile, but nothing to deter being #MidtownStrong!

My devotion to this place is multifaceted, but the main reasons are because of the family attitude and genuine togetherness of the crew here, the coaching is straight forward, educated, and personalized if needed, and it makes me feel good. I may drag my ass to get into the gym, but I have NEVER regretted a workout here, ever!

It's pricey. I won't lie about that. But investing in my healthy and sanity (because this place actually does bring sanity to my everyday chaos) is important for me. A choice that I make once a month when my fee is debited from my bank account! You decide for yourself...but when you walk into Midtown, you know it's something magical...and annoyingly good for you!

Yelp Review from 3/12/14:

Life changing...in the I'm dying, but living kind of way.

It's taken me a while to sum up the words to write this review. If you've read any of my reviews, you can see that I am rarely at a loss for words. But to give this the appropriate review, I wanted to cultivate the right verbiage.

That being said, know that as I write this I smile. I smile at the endless burpees I've been coerced into doing or the ten minutes of abs (or hell) that we end our class with. I originally heard about this spot because a good friend used to come here a long time ago. He mentioned he attended a 5:30AM strength and conditioning class, I literally laughed at face as I stared in awe.

Fast forward about 2+ years later and now, I AM one of those crazies in the Tuesday/Thursday 5:30AM class. It is a special breed of humans (or idiots) that wake up and pay for torture. However, it's the best type of torture I've ever paid for. After some quick internet research, I called Tara (the owner) to schedule my first free visit to check out the spot. That's all it took...

Mind you, it was already the ungodly hour of 5:30AM, mixed with a no frills, garage style gym. I had my judgey-pants on, but those would soon be replaced with lululemon capri's! This place, in all its glory, is a home of sweat and muscles. But in a very non-threatening way. The encourage you, push you to get better, support you, and more than anything treat you like family from day ONE!

I am a notorious baller-on-a-budget, especially when it comes to anything working-out related. I prefer to spend money on races and cute workout clothes (girly, I know)! Thus, why I am concurrently still a member at 24 Hour Fitness. Don't get me wrong at all, I still use my membership there, but there is something at Midtown that 24 Hour just doesn't have. Also, I've pre-paid for that for three years, so I'm kinda stuck with it. Although Midtown doesn't come at a cheap price, it's worth every penny I pay them (yes, they take credit card)!! It's an added luxury I cannot fathom not having in my life anymore. I have learned (and continue to learn) the proper technique for many lifting forms, that's not taught at 24 hour. I have been pushed to lift heavier and grow my strength, no one at 24 hour cares what I'm doing there. There's just something magical about Midtown, it makes you want to be better and stronger...sorry, that sounds cheesy but its 100 percent the truth!

There are a handful of coaches here, but one coach tends to teach their specific classes. Of course life happens, so sometimes you have a new coach for the day. But, I can attest that no workout has ever been the same. All those workout tools (i.e. prowler, kettle bell, sand bags, etc.) that seem so daunting at other gyms are no longer intimidating, they are awesome tools that we use daily. I've learned to walk through the door or the roll-up garage with no expectations, except to sweat and get my butt kicked by my coach! If you are injured or hurt, they make sure you are still a part of the workout, even if you have to modify your workout.

In all honesty, I don't think any review I could write would do the justice that they have done for me. From my physical strength to new friendships, this place has sneaked its way into my life. It is exactly what I needed for my body and health, changing it up and trying something new can be intimidating, but Midtown will welcome you with open arms...and burpees, sprints, pull-ups, and anything else that makes you feel like you might throw up.

I call it torture, but secretly I mean its love...

One of the best things you can do is work on something you completely suck at and get better at it. At Midtown, Milo and others have spent hours coaching me, inspiring me, and welcoming me into the family. I'm extremely grateful for that, and would recommend this place to anyone - a complete beginner or an experienced athlete. Don't let the big weights scare you. Like so many new things we try in our life, friends or family's recommendations weigh heavily in whether we actually proceed.    Finding myself at Midtown the first day was no exception.   MSC came exuberantly recommended by a close friend so I decided to check it out.   Having not worked out on any regular basis for the last 4 yrs, I had no pre-conceived notion on which was the best gym for me.     Right from the beginning, I could sense that my experience here would be much better than joining another gym.   From Camilo's enthusiasm and sincerity to all the coaches positive energy and willingness to guide you through the different movements, I have found great support to really get back on track and make working out part of my core routine.  Since I am fairly new to Crossfit workouts, I can't say I yet appreciate all the puns and inside jokes that seem to be such a part of the culture but I can see why the workouts and the camaraderie surrounding them are so addicting.    At MSC, everyone, regardless of age or experience, gets along and is willing to work together to maximize the daily experience.  In my personal experience, so much of improving one's fitness, is the ability to stay consistent and motivated.    To me, that is much less defined by the equipment or the workout and more by the people with whom you are surrounded.   Just seeing the commitment by all the staff and members to getting the most out of the time, keeps me motivated to get after it and strive for constant improvement.   Two months into my time here, I would recommend Midtown just as strongly as the recommendation I received to give this place a chance. I'm totally drinking the juice here now. Gotta be honest. When I originally signed up, it was a short-term plan to get back into a groove post-Achilles surgery and I signed up only because I knew someone who went here and I felt comfortable around them. I have a love/hate time at gyms for a number of reasons, one being that I get really self conscious. So, I thought maybe I'd have more private time to get back into shape. That's not exactly what happened, but I'm so cool with it. Let me explain. I ended up just taking the classes and while, initially it was uncomfortable, because I don't know anyone and I'm socially awkward, everyone is really nice. The level of athleticism and/or fitness varies so widely, but somehow it all works out and most importantly, everyone has the same goal: 1) Finish the workout and overall, just get into better shape. So, while I'm not getting personal training per say, it totally feels like I am and the help is ALWAYS there. Every coach there is fabulous and willing to help you achieve your goals when you ask or even when you don't. For instance, I work with Camilo and Angel a lot and they're both so great about pushing me to do more, be it more weight or an extra 45 minutes of conditioning. AND if you don't show up, they help hold you accountable. I was out traveling for a week and both of them messaged me asking why I haven't been in. What other gyms do that for you I don't have a problem getting my ass to a gym, my issue has always been I'm not pushing myself enough to see progress or the changes that I want and coming here has definitely helped. That said, my original two month plan has been extended indefinitely. So, let me tell you this place is totally worth checking out! Ok, end long post. More...

I was introduced to Midtown Strength and Conditioning because my old gym, Land Park Crossfit (LPCF) closed. The owner is good friends with Angel, one of the owners of Training Hall Crossfit. So this gym has a Crossfit affiliation, Training Hall Crossfit, which came about in November when Westbound Crossfit merged with Midtown. Believe me, when I first was trying to understand why the heck there were two different names and I thought there were two different locations, I was very confused. My initial visit at Midtown was not the most memorable, to be honest. Angel was trying to explain the numerous names that were affiliated with this place and the moment I walked in, I was hit with the loud music and large amount of people working out. I felt like I was in the club and I was trying to view the facilities without running into someone with a barbell or doing burpees. Come to find out, when I was there to check the place out, there were three classes going on simultaneously. Talk about overwhelming! When I look for a gym, I want a gym that has great coaches, a supportive and friendly atmosphere, close to home, and serious about their workouts. To be honest, the group I came with from LPCF, are the misfits. Like the movie Little Giants with Rick Morranis, we are that team that takes longer to learn the different movements and stand out like a sore thumb when we are learning the movements. It can be intimidating watching all the other athletes who are far more advanced while you work out. I went in with an open mind since Midtown was willing to start a 7 pm class just for us. They gave us Monday-Thursday 7 pm classes, which was really nice. The people here are friendly and knowledgeable. I have found in the month I've been coming here, I have pushed myself past limits I never thought possible. I am turning into one of the crazies who is out there doing burpees or med ball runs and I'm loving it!  I'm in the best shape of my life and I love that the coaches have been very supportive. I've also had a chance to work with Camilo, one of the other owners, and it has been great working with an advanced athlete like himself. The programming here has been great, the workouts are tough but it's always different and each session I am pushing myself to the next level. Come to this gym if you want coaches to kick your butt and hold you accountable. They are no nonsense group and push you to finish your workouts. If you are a newbie, there is one coach you may want to wait to work with, which is Tyler. It's better if you work with him once you're accustomed to the workouts. But overall, this is a great gym.  Parking is on the streets or they have a small parking lot. Give this place a try if you're ready to push yourself past your limits! More...
