Scott has done an incredible job with providing all the necessary tools and training necessary to turn our scared, snappy, attitude aware Chiweenie into a civilized pup that we can take out on walks and trips. Through COVID and moving, Milo did not adapt well. We struggled to revert his behavior, but they had already taken root. Prior to starting training, he was snappy at various difficult categories of people, wary of other dogs, and had HUGE little dog syndrome. Scott worked with us to command his attention, not give in to his complaints, and force his understanding that he was not the leader of our household. Through numerous classes, with Scott’s patience, Milo began to understand and accept that his prior behavior was no longer tolerated. Milo is now a CGC pup that we can take with us on trips, walks with other dogs, and we can worry less than he will misbehave. Thank you! More...

Yes I would most definitely recommend him!! I have noticed a significantly different in my dog. She is now very behaved and less impulsive loving dog that listens! ! Before Scott I was at the end of my ropes and ready to give her away. Scott came in and now she’s a member of my family. He also walks her while I’m at work. I get daily pictures and videos updates. I really appreciate him and all he’s done for me and my family. If you need a dog trainer and/or walker don’t look any further this is is the guy for the job More...

Scott is a no-nonsense straight to the point kinda trainer; yet extremely polite, funny and friendly. His love for training people to train their dogs clearly shows.

We don’t trust our fur babies with just anyone! Standard pet care offers a wonderful service and peace of mind. You can trust them implicitly ❤️ We adopted a rescue, and she was so scared we couldn’t even walk her. Scott patiently worked with us and explained what she was thinking. We now have a dog we enjoy! We recently adopted a second pup, and are using the same techniques to leash train. We are very happy with the results of Scott’s training! More...

Scott has done an amazing job with our dog Penny. We adopted Penny when she was a year and a half old and she is now 3. As an English Pointer mix, she has enormous energy and a very strong prey drive. We loved this energy but walking her was a challenge and painful on the shoulder. She had escaped out of the yard a few times to run around the neighborhood once even getting hit by a car (luckily not bad). We brought Scott in to help control Penny while walking and prevent potential future accidents. In a couple of sessions, Penny was able to get what we were doing and after the complete program, Penny is like a new dog while walking and is a perfect listener. It's such a pleasure to walk Penny now compared to before. When I first spoke with Scott I joked that he would never get Penny to stop chasing squirrels and deer. To my amazement, she now sits and watches them run by while we are walking. My shoulder and I are grateful for Scott's work. I highly recommend his program. More...

Yesenia took care of my senior dog for a week while I was out of town. She was excellent about giving his meds, spending time with him, and communicating with me while I was gone. All pet owners are a little crazy when they have to leave their animals behind but knowing she is always on time, extremely respectful of our home, and that my dog was being cared for, allowed me to travel with peace of mind. I have her booked while I am out of town for my next two trips! More...

We had an extremely successful experience with Rey, our English Cream Retriever. Before training she was very independent, a real challenge to walk and to obey us. Now she is a sweet-heart. She is a joy to walk and experience outside. Scott was very cooperative and convenient. He came to the house weekly for 6 weeks, or longer as needed. He had a plan that he was able to articulate and follow. And he provided the easy link to buy the correct leash and training collar. Too easy. More...

Shortly after adopting Goober, I began dreading going on our daily walks. He’d pull the whole time and bark at every person and dog that he saw. It was embarrassing. It only took one lesson with Scott for Goober to realize that walks were more pleasant (for both is us) when he wasn’t pulling. As training continued, we polished his behavior on the leash and outside in general. Goober and I have been training with Scott for a while now and it’s proven to be an invaluable experience. We’ve both learned a ton. More...

Scott is a fantastic trainer! My dog is crazy, stubborn, and knows how to push boundaries. On my own, I was screwed, but Scott has worked so patiently with my dog (and me)! ! The cost is incredibly low compared to the commitment Scott has for helping you with your dog! I can’t recommend him enough!! More...

We were actually considering finding a new home for our dog because he is big and strong and impulsive; we weren't handling that well. We figured we would give training one more try with Scott at Standard Pet Care. (Already tried two other situations, one a behaviorist, and one a group class.) We've been working with Scott for just over 2 months and feel like we have a new dog! Scott is friendly, professional, reliable, and no nonsense. Most of the training is indeed for US the owners, on proper handling techniques, but Scott has helped us be better dog owners... and now we have a better dog. We are VERY happy working with Scott! When we first got our puppy, he started developing aggressive behavior. It was difficult for us to pet him especially on his head without him nipping. We are so happy we decided to go with Scott for his training and have seen dramatic improvement! If you are looking for a trainer you will see results with by putting in the work, you are in the right place and would recommend Scott to anyone. More...

Q&As

Getting to change the perspectives on both ends of the leash. Often it is our own behavior that is causing the problem.

I saw dogs going to shelters for issues that can be remedied with the right perspective. Often these dogs were being overlooked. My goal is to keep as many dogs out of shelters and in their homes as possible.

We have developed and modified a curriculum that can produce measurable results. We offer fair pricing and continue maintenance for all of our clients.

Yes, depending on the dog’s behavior. For basic obedience, we have a web-based curriculum with video tutorials that, if followed, can produce a Canine Good Citizen title.

We developed an online learning tool that allows for learning at a distance. We also wear face masks at the request of the customer. As we don’t have a building and our services are in-home, not many changes were required.

Services

Our curriculum is designed to create a well-mannered canine companion. We will work with both dog and human to create and maintain good habits and continue learning. Our goal is to achieve a Canine Good Citizen title through the AKC, or, depending on your dog, the basic equivalent.

We recognize the role of pet-care professionals in creating good behaviors in your dog. Our focus is on ensuring the safety and good behavior of your canine companions when you are away.

We will offer the same level of care that you will receive at a boarding facility, but at your home so that you and your canine companion can have peace of mind while you are away. We also offer care for various types of animals, not just canines.
