I am a huge supporter of alternative medicine and value acupuncture for all it offers; I utlitize it for a number of ailments. Even when I don't have a specific need, I love general upkeep appointments. I feel about my acupuncture appointments the way lots of people feel about a luxurious massage. It keeps my mind clear and allows for relaxation and quiet amidst a hectic, noisy life.I'd been visiting this spot for my PMDD and terrible menstrual cycles and found unbelievable relief after a series of sessions with Susanna. She listened to what I needed and worked with me over a few weeks to get through a difficult experience. My symptoms have almost disappeared with each cycle.However, SP Community Acupuncture truly shined when I showed up to an appointment in tears because of my back pain from a ruptured disc in my spine. I stopped receiving acupuncture once I moved out of Brooklyn, and wasn't sure if I'd find another community-style location that I love. I am in Philly on the weekends, and was so excited when my boyfriend introduced me to this place, which is just a short walk from his house.My boyfriend booked Eva for my first appointment, and I have stuck with her since then. She's really helpful during the sessions as well as with providing tips for daily care and pain relief. Sometimes, going to acupuncture makes me a bit anxious, so it's nice to have someone so calming and knowledgable. My friend and I visited South Philadelphia Community Acupuncture for the first time a few weeks ago. We both loved it! It was such an enjoyable experience. As soon as we walked in the door, we were comfortable. We both suffer from social anxiety and the idea of "community acupuncture" made us both nervous. Duncan greeted as with a welcoming smile and was very friendly! I scheduled an appointment online, but my friend didn't. She came along to check it out and see if it was something she'd be interested in. Duncan said they would be able to take care of her as well. Vito came out and introduced himself. We went into a private room to discuss what I was there for (neck pain). He was also extremely friendly! When we were done talking, we went into the community room. There was relaxing music playing. Vito made sure I was comfortable before putting all of the needles in. I didn't even feel them. When he finished, he asked again if I was alright before he left the room. I felt some relief while lying down, and more relief as the day went on. The next day, I had no more neck pain and my friend had no more shoulder pain! I called them Saturday night late, a very polite helpful young lady called me back Sunday 9 am .they saw me Monday 5 min ahead of my appointment. Front desk women was most helpful and pleasant as well..The owner Lauren personally did my session and wow she is just so nice and very detailed..she spent several minutes going over my problem areas and explaining her treatment ..she seemed genuinely concerned about her patients and there well being.I'm a big fan of alternative medicine and this wasn't my first acupuncture treatment, but by far my most rewarding. I found the owner to be most pleasant & knowledgeable,,obviously very experienced & skillful.Office was super clean, table was very comfortable. I felt better immediately from a painful and lingering problem suffering for over a month .Of course things take time so i will continue to receive and  trust the fine medical care from South Philadelphia Acupuncture.**A respected medical journal detailed a open heart surgery operation performed successfully in China without the aid of anesthesia..( only an acupuncturists needles )  Gosh just imagine the potential benefits to help lesser medical issues. I partially owe my successful first half marathon to South Philly Community Acupuncture!  I had been experiencing a lot of IT band tightness and sore calf muscles in the weeks leading up to the half marathon.  Since this was my first experience with acupuncture, I decided to go for the more expensive private session.  I was able to make a next day appointment and saw Eva.  I filled out a comprehensive new client packet before arriving and then Eva sat down and went over everything with me.  She asked a lot of questions about issues that I had not even thought of before she proceeded with my treatment.  The needles did not hurt, and I could barely feel them. I have been in constant pain for 7 months.  Physical therapy helped; it took me from bedridden to being mobile and functional, but still in pain.  Fortunately, my primary care physician suggested I try acupuncture.  So, I tried acupuncture for the very first time.  Eva was kind and gentle and talked me through the whole process.  At the end of the session, I didn't feel any different, but since I wasn't worse I thought I'd try a few more sessions and see what happens, so I set up another appointment and went home.  I never experienced that "release" or "deep peace" that others describe... truth be told, I was bored just lying there.  BUT, about 4 hours later, I noticed that I was moving a lot better and while not pain free, the pain was definitely less.  To me that was a victory!  I look forward to working more with Eva. I'm scheduled for my 3rd visit to SPCA this week and I'm already looking forward to it. I'm working with Eva to relieve pain from my neck & shoulders, as well as bring back some "happy hormones" after my anxiety-causing divorce. Eva is extremely sweet and attentive. I just relocated to Philly from NYC, and was heartbroken to leave my last acupucture center of 4 years (shout out to Olo Acupuncture in Chelsea, they are modern-day healers). Pleased to report that SPCA is an excellent replacement, and Lauren is wonderful. This will be a weekly treatment for me going forward.New client paperwork was available online, so I took care of that before my appointment. The receptionist was kind and pleasant, and the space is clean, quiet and zen. The treatment room is on the small side, but Lauren's astute assessment and combo therapies (acupuncture, infrared, and moxibustion) had me in lala land so quick that the space was irrelevant. Other clients were considerate, which helped. Prices are sliding scale based on income, and more than reasonable considering the use of multiple therapies if needed.Looking forward to being treated here! So glad this place exists! More...

went for my first ever acupuncture appt. Vito took his time asking questions and came across as thoughtful and discerning. He asked me questions that were right on track with issues I hadn't thought to write down or bring up.  The needles did not hurt, could barely barely feel them when they were inserted and absolutely couldn't feel them after that. I went into labor on the acupuncture table after my third labor-inducing acupuncture session.  I was 40 weeks and 1 day. ..and had 5 days left until I was scheduled to get my water broken to toss me into labor because my OB wouldn't let me go beyond 41 weeks because I was trying for a VBAC.  I had never gone into labor for my first because she was breech.  So I didn't even know what labor felt like.  I had tried a different acupuncturist prior to this who had never done labor induction before and got a recommendation to come here.  These women are experts at it--not to mention they were soothing, very positive about me being close to labor and supportive.  And then...I went into labor.  I was pretty sure when I left I was in labor...and now after the yelp review, they'll know 15 1/2 hours later, I delivered a healthy baby girl.  (It would have been much quicker if she didn't insist upon being born with her arm and hand above her head!!).  I'd recommend this place to anyone and you cannot beat the price.  I was a little worried about finding parking during the day in Passyunk but it was a breeze and it gave me a chance to stop in B2 and get a sandwich and smoothie for lunch right after. I had never tried acupuncture before yesterday, so I scheduled a private session with Eva. She took her time to go over my complicated medical history and was extremely knowledgeable when it came to the autoimmune disease I'm dealing with. She asked what was bothering me in particular and made sure I was comfortable with the process before we got started. Throughout the session she made sure I was relaxed and even offered for me to stay longer if I would have liked. I have been suffering from chronic pain for the past few months and I woke up today feeling more like myself than I have in a long time. I am so glad I found Matt at South Philly Community Acupuncture.  He is one of the most compassionate, caring and gentle practitioners I've found during many years of using acupuncture services for staying healthy.  Through a series of treatments with Matt, I was able to resolve sciatic nerve pain that had plagued me for a year and a half, limiting my ability to do all kinds of things that I used to enjoy.  At the same time this was being resolved, the treatments provided support in dealing with the stress of a very difficult life situation. Some background information.  I am 34 years old and suffered from Plantar Fasciitis for about 4 months.  I have tried the various exercises, stretches and night splints recommended by my podiatrist without any long term relief.  I've decided to try acupuncture knowing that the problem I have is related to a tense calf muscle.  I have had acupuncture in the past to treat other issues and had success. I went to SPCA and made an appointment with Eva.  Eva was extremely professional and sympathetic to my condition.  She also had success in treating people with plantar fasciitis. On my first visit I felt extremely comfortable with her and optimistic that she would be able to help me. Eva provided needle treatment to my leg and foot followed by a calf massage.  My first treatment resulted in no more PF pain and I was able to walk without any issues.  Additionally I felt relaxed and centered.  Multiple treatments are recommended to fully treat/help plantar fasciitis and so far I have had 4.  Each time my condition gets better and improves.  The results last longer after each visit.  I look forward to seeing Eva knowing how great she will make me feel while treating a persistent problem in a natural and healthy way.
