Sandra is amazing. I truly appericate her amazing patience with my 3 year old daughter. Our pictures were better because of her patience. My little ones attention span isn't the greatest and she got her to do poses that I didn't think would be possible. When working with a photographer you want someone who will capture the moment witch she did. She absolutely knows how to capture the light and the right angles. Finding a photographer is easy but finding one who will work with your vision and make it a reality, is hard. Great work and easy process.Again I didn't know what we would get with my preschooler. Sandra was so wonderful to work with! She photographed my 3yr old son who can be challenging (what toddler isn’t?) at times, with the utmost patience. She guided our session so that we would receive amazing photos, but allowed my son to have fun chasing bubbles and splashing in mud puddles. We had a great experience with Sandra for our daughter’s senior pictures! She took the time to talk to and get to know our daughter in order to understand what she envisioned for her senior pictures. We shot at a few locations around the city and EVERY picture came out amazing; this made making decisions for the yearbook and what to have printed very difficult as they were all so beautiful. Sandra DaRosa Photography was able to provide us an appointment within 3 days after initial contact!! That was Awesome!! My son was apprehensive about having his photos taken, as he can be shy. However, mid-way through the session she had him smiling, laughing and totally comfortable!! The problem photographers have is when we look at pictures we typically see technique first and then subject matter. Therefore choosing photographer for own family session is difficult as there's never anyone "good enough for my family". However, few months ago that changed. I've found Sandra and her work via mutual acquaintance, we started talking and made arrangements for her to come to NY to photograph my family. First and foremost, session was tough (I'll attest to it as both as a parent and a photographer) - kids were running around, not listening or paying attention, when one kid was looking the others were in their own world. First and foremost, Sandra was very patient, persistant, determined to get that ONE shot. We moved to various locations, we joked, we laughed, we photographed... I'm a photographer with over 2decades experience in this industry in various roles, I only wanted one shot of my kids, a tough task, Sandra and her team got WAY MORE then one shot. But there's more... We took the family to MA for the session and had another great set of images in Boston area. Five hour drive with screming kids in the car, was worth every second of it. What’s the secret to taking a great photograph?
The most important element of an image to me is it’s ability to evoke emotion. The photograph must be compositionally strong as well. Then of course there is lighting, which is very crucial. One must master light and know how to use/manipulate light.
What questions might you ask a client when starting a new project?
When starting a new project I like to ask my client what their vision is. We then talk about how we will work at together to create their vision.
What do you love most about your job?
What I love most about my job is that it has allowed me to meet the most incredible people. Many of those I’ve met have become lifelong friends
What inspired you to start your own business?
My love for the arts and photography has always been who I am. I am always dreaming of my next collaboration, as I want it to be the most EPIC shoot I have ever done. My journey as a photographer has allowed me to meet the most incredible people and be the most creative photographer I can be. I began advancing studies and started studying with a Sony Artisan of Imagery, Jason Lanier, in 2016. This had allowed me to take my photography to a whole other level. I submit my images monthly for critiques with Jason Lanier. It is very important to me to "Get it right"! My goal is to capture who you truly are and deliver imaging that you will cherish forever.
