Both my husband and I totally appreciated your Relationship class! I loved how you set the foundation of the class by eliciting ideas from us on what qualities people seek on any relationship (coworkers, parent-child, friend, life partner) and what would stand in the way of achieving these. While I have done a fair amount of work around seeking healthy relationships including counseling, this class brought to light some really fundamental concepts and solidified the necessity of returning to feelings awareness, my intent in any relationship, and examining what I bring to the table. A big takeaway for me is how to be true to myself and meet my needs through myself in order to form healthy relationships! So valuable! Thank you! More...

I came to Reito’s practice after working with a dozen therapists who I never connected with- it seemed as if I was a lost cause. Reito accepted and understood me. For the first time, I was able to express my deepest emotions. He helped me to find solutions. A comforting thought for me is that when I need him, I have a therapist who I trust. More...

It's no exaggeration to say Reito helped me change my life. I'm grateful that he helped me thru some 'hopeless' times and he's still there for me as I move forward. Early on, he also referred me to great MD because he suspected a previous misdiagnosis and my new doctor changed my meds accordingly. Reito had the insight and knowledge to coordinate my care.He has helped me with issues in my marriage and career, co-dependency, relationships, grief and self-esteem. Because of Reito's compassion, humor, experience and support, I'm more confident & stable & make better choices. I respect his insights and suggestions because I know he hears me.I stopped seeing him when I felt strong enough and could deal with 'life on life's terms'. A series of tragedies brought me back & I am so relieved that we are meeting again. He makes a difference in my outlook, in my 'everyday'.I recommend him to family, friends & you. More...

Q&As

What I love most about my job, is simply helping people. No two are alike, and I think that’s the biggest part of what’s kept it interesting for so many years. A job, where I get to help people figure out what's stopping them from experiencing the life they want, teaching them how to ensure their emotional needs get met, watching them change right in front of me, and then seeing the ripple effects of how their improved emotional and mental health effects their families, and so on… What could be cooler than that! It’s where I shine.

I have been working in the mental health and addiction treatment fields for 32 years. I’ve held various positions in detox, substance abuse treatment programs, community mental health centers and hospitals. All of which afforded me a great deal of latitude, but 17 years ago, I decided I wanted more. I wanted to be able to set my own hours, work locations, fees, and time off. I wanted to maintain a highly varied practice, meaning working with people from different backgrounds, socioeconomic statuses, issues and ages. Additionally, I knew having my own business, meant I would get to choose the head custodian, maintenance man, interior decorator and groundskeeper. It’s all good, except for the paperwork. When faced with that, I find it helps to keep in mind that the reality is, that, I get to do it.

I approach therapy with the knowledge that I’m not the one that knows what’s best for others. It’s that I know how to guide others through the process of finding what’s best for themselves.

My therapeutic style is very gentle and nurturing, but direct. I facilitate getting to issues quickly, staying focused on problem resolution and keeping the therapeutic process moving. The results my clients receive last and are generalizable to all parts of their lives.

What I offer goes far beyond addressing issues, coping mechanisms and increasing intimacy and trust in relationships. I facilitate real change. Upon completion of therapy with me, whether doing individual, couples, or group, you should expect to be a stronger and emotionally healthier individual. You will understand why only you, as an adult, can ensure your emotional needs get met and have the self-awareness and skills to do it.

If all that sounds too good to be true ask yourself the following question: Why should I settle for less than life has to offer?

Services

There are two ways I can support you in your therapeutic and personal growth processes. The first is to teach. I believe that what I have to offer will benefit anyone willing to listen. It’s available to everyone with access to YouTube. I am teaching it free of charge. Just search my name, Reito Rodriguez.

The presentations I make for YouTube are for that mode of communication. It is not therapy. On YouTube my primary intentions are to make people think, remember, and entertain.

Therapy is a process people go through, with the companionship and guidance of their therapist. As a therapist my style is very gentile and nurturing, but direct. My clients benefit from therapy quickly. Early in the process we establish clear goals and measurable objectives that help keep therapy moving, and in the right direction. Therapy is a method of facilitating change. You should be able to accomplish much more than just feeling better and being heard. With me, you will always know what you are working on, and why. Once you have what you need to ensure you don’t have to settle for less than life has to offer, my job will be done. The things I provide in both, therapy and on YouTube, are generalize-able to the rest of life.
