Updated review: We decided to re-try Popoli's after our first experience (let's just say it wasn't good). This time was a totally different experience! Amazing food and a more relaxing experience! We started with fried calamari which was perfectly breaded and served with two sauces (cocktail and a tartar sauce). It definitely was gobbled up!For my main course I had the carbonara - oh, my, YUM! Handmade pasta (so it tasted), with plenty of pancetta, Parmesan cheese, black pepper, and topped with an egg! Sooo many amazing flavors in one dish! The pasta was also served with a homemade bread (also delicious). My husband had a pasta dish with vodka sauce and chicken and sausage. It too was amazingly flavorful! I still went with 4/5 stars as our waitress had no emotions (a smile would be nice) and I wish they had a larger variety for craft beers. Most drafts were ales - it would be nice to see some light/ crisp varieties available! All-in-all, this second visit "wowed" us and we will be back again! More...

So we have been to this restaurant four times now. I’ll start by simply saying that Alexis was fantastic as our server. Friendly, polite, knowledgeable and enthusiastic. I would highly recommend her.Unfortunately, the kitchen really let her down. It sounded like the table next to us had problems as well but raved about the service from Alexis.My wife and I both ordered steaks and vegetables. The steaks come with a side option which my wife chose broccoli and I picked Brussels sprouts. My wife got 1 small stalk of broccoli and I got 3 halves of sprouts. Some side.Also, we were asked if we wanted a steak topper and both my wife and I wanted mushrooms and onions but on the side. As a topper mushrooms and onions are listed as 1 item costing $6. When the bill came they tried to charge us $6 separately for the mushrooms and onions. A $12 steak topper C’mon. We dine at Chicago steak houses all the time and could never imagine one of them trying to charge you $12 for a mushrooms and onions steak topper.Really disappointing. What strikes you when you visit Popoli is the beautiful wall covering and the stained glasses. It really enhances your dining experience sitting in a historic building and enjoying your food. As for the food, they have a very good selection of different dishes with king crabs being their favorite, which incidentally was sold out. Their starters are very good and we had 4 of them for a group of 5 and it was all gone in a few minutes. Their entrees are good too with so many choices that you are not sure which one to choose. 36 Ounce Bone-In Ribeye - Pan Seared then finished in the oven; basted in garlic, butter, and thyme. Srerved with Bacon-infused mashed potatoes and caramelized Brussels Sprouts.

I listen, then I listen some more, and then we make it happen.
