This is definitely a must see while in SoCal! We went  on a Monday afternoon and it wasn't too crowded and parking was only $1. 50 per hour which was very reasonable. Nice and easy walk along the trail for every level. They have areas for picnicking and playgrounds for kids. I has fun on the swings! More...

My husband proposed to me here! So naturally I love this place. Luckily we live in an area where we can hike to top of the world, and it's a beautiful hike. There are a lot of people on bikes, and there are tons of bike trails. It's great for a family hike, or a nice Sunday hike with your parter or friends! I highly recommend hiking here. It can get very busy on certain days and times, mostly weekends, but everyone is so kind and we always say hello to everyone we pass by. Love it here! More...

I really like this beach! I have the CA Explorer Pass, so entering was very smooth. They have multiple parking lots, so there are plenty of parking. The parking is a little bit away from the beach, so make sure you're prepared to walk a bit to get to the beach. I didn't see any bathrooms near the beach, but they had bathrooms where the parking lots are. More...

Levels: easy-moderate-extremeCanyon acres trail:The trail near the residential area is an easy-moderate run a round (depending how you feel about slopes). Be aware that there are bike trails. Keep a look out for friends who are speeding by. You can notice the bike tracks on the floor to distinguish where bikers like to go through. If you decide to go left you will reach a dirt/rock path. Not many rocks, it's enough for you to safely walk up. I would advise that you mentally prepare yourself and take breaks, especially during the summer. Once you reach the top you will get a nice view of laguna beach. It glitters, it's beautiful, and from the hill top it makes you want to explore more. You can decide to drive up to the top of the world (the yelp address will take you there). It's located at the top at a residential area. You will see Alta Laguna Park, use this as a landmark if you're not good with streets haha. You will see a better and wider landscape view of laguna. If you're up for the challenge, take the moderate-extreme hiking trails. Begin your journey and make sure to remember to hydrate! Happy hiking everyone! More...

Great short Trail. It's about a half of Mile and considered difficult. When you get to the "T" Trail Crossing a little higher up the hike if you go to the left and stay to the right it will take you up to a beautiful, panoramic view of the ocean. Today you can see the different variations of blue from dark blue to very light blue in the water. Although it is only a half of mile it may be a little difficult due to several steep inclines with stairs for some. They have a bench at the top of the hike that overlooks the ocean which we enjoyed sitting there for about 45 minutes. The trip down is much easier. More...

Came here with my husband for the first time and decided to take the easy West Ridge trail. We started in a residential neighborhood off Holly Leaf and it is about 2. 5 miles one way. There are a number of inclines throughout the hike, some steeper than others. You definitely want to do this hike in the early morning or on a cooler winter/ spring day since there is no shade on this hike. The views are beautiful at the top with some nice picnic tables. There is also a nice park and restrooms at the top as well. Because the trail is a combination of inclines and declines both ways the trip back to the car is not an easy trek since it was a bit warmer and we are considered novice hikers. Be sure to take plenty of water with you. It was a great day of exercise today as we put in 5 miles !  Yay! More...

After a long and crazy week, my friend and I decided to have a beach day at Crystal Cove to check out the caves. The walk from the parking lot all the way to the cave was a little over 4 miles. We enjoyed the views, stopping for pictures, and admiring all the different sea life that was swimming in between the rocks along the way. It was such a beautiful day, and it was surprisingly warm despite the 44-50 degree weather. I appreciated that it was kept clean (aka no trash), and the water looked very clear. The cave at the end wasn't big enough for us to explore, and the rocks seemed treacherous to make our way around so we decided to walk back. It was a great workout while taking in the stunning views. I also liked that it wasn't too crowded either. There was an option to take the shuttle at the beach entrance back to the parking lot, but the walk back (about 10 mins) wasn't too bad. There's one restaurant on the beach but it looked too pack. Perhaps going there first would be the better plan, so plan accordingly! More...

I've done it as few as 3 miles to upwards of 8.There is parking at Alta Laguna Par or along the neighboring residential streets. It does get CROWDED on weekends!! If you are looking for a tranquil hike... this might not be in. You will see other people on the trail. A lot of other people. One of the most popular trails (in my opinion) is Car Wreck -- everyone likes to see the old abandoned car. What I love is Alta Laguna Park that offers bathrooms, picnic tables and greenery to gather with friends and reconnect. During July 4th it's the best spot to see Fireworks displays all 360 degrees around you from Laguna Beach, Dana Point, Newport Beach, Mission Viejo, Laguna Niguel , and even Ladera Ranch. How can I rate a beach badly?  I LOVE the ocean so much. This isn't for me.  And I'm rating it this way because maybe it isn't for you either.  You have to pay to park, take a shuttle, do a walk down and then... there is a beach that is frankly just full of families and kids and people that are way more invested in a beach day than I am.  I just want a romantic stroll, dipping our feet in the water...  take some pictures of the scenery.  This is NOT for people like me.  These folks come with furniture, with coolers, with many children....  they make a day of it.  I should have researched this more.  It's definitely not the beach I'm looking for.  And if you have any ideas about eating at the Beachcomber Restaurant, you can get that out of your head right now.  We showed up around 9:30 AM and were told it would be about 3 hours for a table and so no...  breakfast wouldn't be an option.   But after looking at the crowd on the patio of the restaurant ..  a lot of no shoes, a lot of no shirts, so many kids...  we didn't want to eat there anyway. So we quickly paid for the shuttle back.  And then paid for parking.  I think if you're the kind of hardy beachgoer with a couple of kiddos and a bunch of beach furniture...  this is for you.   But I couldn't get out of here quick enough. You can hear the waves, but for much of the trail there's large rocks with only small breaks where you can see people playing in the water and surfing out in the distance. But you never can beat that lovely sound of the waves rolling in. It's a whole different venue than some of the other beaches that have paved paths. My favorite seashore reserve on the Newport Coast, I guess it's been 21-years since I was first acquainted. I love the steep cliffs above the beach, the steps or ramps used to approach the different sections, and the geological history on display in other areas. Whether you just want to walk on the edge of the surf, sunbathe, picnic, or fish there's something here for everyone. The trails atop the ridge also make for fun in the fresh ocean air. Favorite things to do? When the tide is out the tidal pools are teeming with life, just be careful not to harm the creatures or slip and fall. At the extreme southern end the tide leaves behind mussels and sometimes octopi can be seen waiting for the tide to return. Don't touch them please! We've also seen pods of Dolphins feeding and watching them jump in the surf is a treat! On any given day plan on bringing a cooler, umbrella, blanket and towels for a great time. A small harbachi can elevate the experience with grilled food. No alcohol or glass containers allowed, however. As with all natural reserve areas, don't take home shells, stones, or anything else that you see and be mindful of the natural beauty. While a lot of people park across the street at the shopping center it's not worth getting a ticket or hauling things the distance across the PCH. To park here you'll need to download an app and pay for the day. The Rangers patrol the beach often and will sometimes take the time to chat and point out the migrating birds or other phenomena. Keep it clean and have fun, the Crystal Cove Shoreline is a treasure that always looks different each time I visit. More...

Large crescent-shaped seashore, there are plenty of local "hidden" beaches that are more secluded and empty but this one is nice early in the morning with lots of hikes and soothing blue water. We like the "Lower Moro" parking lot the best, there is a cool tunnel that goes under PCH and its a short walk to the beach.Note the tunnel does get a pool of water built up after rain, about ankle deep so easy to walk through if you take your shoes off.Interesting history, Crystal Cove was used as a film location in the 1920s and some of the thatched huts and palm trees that were left behind became some of the first rentals and the seeds which became a makeshift beach shantytown. "Crystal Cove Cottages" have now become a destination in itself.A Japanese farming group made these bluffs home in 1935 established a school and a religious center. Tragically, these farmers were dispatched to Japanese internment camps and never returned, "Cottage #34" is the former schoolhouse and it has interesting asian-american history displayed inside.
