I would like to take this opportunity to give a big shout out to Tony Indovina and Steve For all their hard work and attention to detail. Tony, our field manger was always very Responsive and followed through with his commitments. We were not real happy with a Sub contractor that worked on our project, but Tony made sure the work was completed To our complete satisfaction. Steve was brought in at the end of our project and if not for Steve’s And Tony’s Attention to detail and hard work to complete our final punch list, it would have Been tough to provide a positive and strong recommendation. Moss has a solid reputation for quality construction and an experienced team of sales consultant, in-house architect, project managers, interior designer, and carpenters which is why we selected Moss among the other builders. Lisa Ladson, Moss’ sale consultant, coordinated with their in-house architect (New leaf collaborative, architecture and design) to provide us with an open concept and second floor layout that we love. Lisa was exceptional and very responsive during the preliminary design stage. Moss also provided 8-hours of interior design which made all the difference in helping us create the look and feel of the interior and exterior. We couldn’t wait for the construction to start considering the positive design experience.
The construction start was less than perfect with the initially assigned project manager not meeting our expectations in communicating the status and keeping to the schedule. We voiced our concerns and Moss’ management quickly responded and assigned David Keys, Moss’ Senior Project Manager, to get the project back on track and to improve communication and owner expectations. David took over 2-months after construction had started and we emphasized the expectation of the 5-month construction. Now the Moss online schedule was not valid anymore but instead Dave and I met weekly for him to provide me with the construction status and a 2-week look ahead of activities. Dave’s style of construction management and owner communication enabled the construction to be completed in 5-months –it pays to have an experienced Project Manager from the start. Dave was very responsive to any post-construction issues and continues to be my go-to person for any issues. Overall, Moss did a terrific job considering the initial construction setback, but they came through per their reputation.

Extremely pleased with our first floor renovation. From Nick in Sales, Jason to help close the deal, Megan our designer, and Bob the project manager we were listened to and treated respectfully. I was originally told 10-12 weeks for the work. Prior to work starting, Bob told me he was hoping for 8-10 weeks. We were back in our kitchen in 8 weeks! The remaining work due to a few small issues has taken an additional 3-4 weeks, but I'm fully moved back in to the entire first floor. Some small details that I appreciated: 1)There was no dumpster in my driveway. Living on a pipestem is hard enough from a parking perspective. It was great not to have a huge dumpster taking up 3/4 of our driveway. Trash was put in driveway but picked up within 2-3 days. 2)Moss Online. I loved being able to log in and view my schedule and it is great to look back to see design selections if I want to match anything for future purchases. 3)Clean up each day. The house was always left in a safe, usable condition. Working with Nick, Megan and Bob was seamless. They truly work together as a team to make things right for their customers. We had Moss install a finished bench seat/ shoe cubby/ storage cabinet in the awkwardly-sized foyer closet in our 1960's-era house. It is just what I wanted and makes WAY BETTER use of the space :)

They also installed some backsplash tile in the kitchen and updates come window trim, things that we could have done ourselves (but really...when ). They did it quickly and it looks sharp.

As with all home improvement projects in NoVa, wish it was cheaper but Moss was very clear up front about costs and allowances.

We hired Moss to add a second story to our 3 bedroom rambler in Arlington. The scope of the project involved significant changes to the downstairs layout (relocating a stairway, changing a hallway, and moving walls), an entirely new second story including 3 bedrooms, 2 bathrooms and a laundry and some major changes to the basement, including putting in a new ceiling, new lighting and new stairway. We were very pleased both with the way the project turned out and with how easy Moss was to work with. Notably our project manager Dave Keys was very responsive to any issues or concerns that arose. We were very pleased with the quality of the work and, although doing a major remodel like this is never going to be easy, we felt that Moss tried to minimize the disruption to our lives. I have three favorite things about working with Moss. One, their flexibility - Moss was more than willing to offer design advice (thank you, Jodi Jamieson!) when we wanted, but also very happy to let us lead the way in making decisions. We really appreciated that they listened to us and helped us make our home the perfect place for us. Secondly, we valued their ability to stay within their stated budget. There were no financial surprises and given the horror stories about some remodeling experiences, we were very pleased about that. Finally, we think they did a beautiful job and we love what feels like a brand-new home customized to our family. My wife and I hired Moss to put a 3 story addition on our Arlington VA home and renovate our existing space. We are very happy with how everything worked out, and found them to be very professional and trustworthy. A few things in particular stand out…

First is the quality of the work. Their architect proposed what for us was a completely off the wall idea for how to configure our bedroom level and it worked out great. Their kitchen designer also came up with a great plan. We’ve been living in the new/renovated space for 8 month now and love how it looks and feels, and how it fits our lifestyle.

Second is that they respected our deadlines. We lived in our home during the early and late stages of the work, but moved out for majority of the project. During this time we were paying our normal mortgage and renting a home. This can be an expensive proposition, especially if your project is delayed and you need to extend your rental agreement. I asked Moss to get us back into the house in 4 months and they had everything ready for us 2-3 weeks ahead of schedule.

Finally I found them to be very fair-minded with respect to our contract. Their initial cost estimates were accurate, and the adjustments we made along the way were reasonable. Any large complex project is going to have mid-stream changes and instances where the homeowner’s assumptions don’t exactly match the contractor’s (or the contract). We were always able to work through those situations with Moss in a way that felt fair and reasonable to me.

In general, I’ll simply say they did good work and I feel like they were good folks to work with. More...

The quality of the work was great, but they went WAYYYY over schedule. Their actual workers were inconsistent in terms of punctuality and professionalism. The Moss staff are generally fine, but I believe it's their subcontractors who are the real problem. Our first problem with Moss came early on in the process, before work started, I went out picking selections with a Moss person. But then we were told our selections were going over budget. I expected some schedule variances, but not to the extent that it happened. They sent someone with me to choose things; I thought the whole purpose of her being there was to keep me within my allowances. After a chat with a Moss person, she explained the extra cost. OK, so, we got beyond that and were still generally happy with Moss at this point. Then the work started, at at first everything was fantastic. Our renovations were looking good and going well, until everything stopped inexplicably. We lost five full days in our schedule because their scheduled workers failed to show. The Moss project manager was unaware of this until I notified him. Their workers, who I am guessing are all subcontracors, threw cigarette butts around the grounds, earning us a nasty letter from the HOA. A few times they also left trash like soda cans and empty wendy's cups in our place. They also left lots of trash out on our balcony for weeks until I had to ask them to clean it up. I realize they needed a temporary storage for trash, but they should have cleared it as soon as they were able to. I kinda felt like just a number to Moss, like I didn't warrant much attention from them. The Project Manager is a nice man and was very helpful, but seemed very disconnected from what the actual workers were doing (or not doing). Also, once it became clear we were unhappy with Moss, they stopped responding to my emails or inquiries. Around the midway point, when things were going well and I thought we'd hire them again, I asked for an estimate of further work. I was assured this could be done and I could be given a quote, but of course it never did. My second email inquiry went unanswered. We spent nearly $50K on them. Wouldn't do it again. Avoid this place for anything pricey. Maybe for small handyman fixes they are OK. More...

We hired Moss to do a major expansion of our house and were quite happy with the results. We had Moss bump out the back of the house to expand the kitchen and add a study.
The quality of the work was excellent. When there were problems, the project manager worked hard to ensure our complete satisfaction. He was always extremely helpful and we found the workers quite professional.

I hired Moss to complete a variety of home repairs and improvements at my home. They repainted and caulked my master bath. They also completed several improvements to my family room, including building a fireplace mantel, adding crown molding and new lights, converting an area that had a very outdated wet bar into a very useful closet, and completing the electrical work for a heated tile floor. Moss has completed two bathroom remodel projects for me - a master bathroom/bedroom upgrade and a powder room to full bath conversion project. In the case master bath/bed project a new air tub was installed, shower enlarged and new vanity refitted to fit unusual space (new tile, toilet, etc.). Additionally, a balcony was converted into a walk-in closet which involved the addition of exterior siding that was perfectly matched to existing materials. Seperataly, a powder room conversion involved reconfiguring a closet into a walk-in shower, upgrading tile and replacing toilet and vanity, with custom tile work beautifully done. More...

We hired Moss to replace the vinyl siding on our 1930s-era Cape Cod with a Hardie Plank system. We were also on a tight time budget, as we were expecting and wanted the project completed before baby's arrival, which was due just 4 months after we signed the contract. We worked with Mark Foster, who was very responsive to our questions and concerns. While there were some bumps in the road (as with most such projects) and we kept a really close eye on the folks doing the installation (since my wife and I are both a bit high-maintenance in this regard), in the end Mark delivered a beautiful product before the baby arrived, and we cannot believe how gorgeous our home now looks! My only experience has been with hiring their plumber Frank on a couple of occasions. My husband and I are both very picky people and could not be happier with the quality of work that Frank does. The latest project we hired him for was to install a tub and hookup the faucets in a bathroom remodel. He was efficient, professional, gave great advice, and best of all did quality work. Our mid-70s Colonial was sorely in need of a new kitchen. With cabinets falling apart, plumbing problems and a formal dining room that was never used, we contacted Jason at Moss. He set an appointment, was prompt, enthusiastic and sketched our dream kitchen after carefully considering our needs.

After weeks of working with the different design teams, we formalized the layout and scheduled a start date.

Demolition and reconstruction was handled with skill by their talented crews. Bob Keene brings years of experience to his projects and he patiently guided us through each step. Sure we ran into problems on our 40yr old house but I had confidence in the work being done and every concern raised was addressed and resolved without me having to lean on or pressure the contractor. We liked the quality so much we added a significant amount of work to the project and ultimately transformed the way our family lives by making the best use of the space available.

Our experiences with Moss go back several years. Every experience has been positive in all respects.
The most recent examples occurred in 2015.
In late June, we called because the sink in our master bath was malfunctioning. The expert plumber appeared the next morning and diagnosed the problem -- lots of hairs blocking the drain. He solved that one, and we mentioned some difficulties with the water system in the kitchen. He diagnosed that and recommended a replacement. We concurred. Within a couple of days he arrived with the new system and installed all of it. Since then our plumbing has been superb, and we are happy.
In October 2015, the main light in our basement would not go on. We called Moss, and the next morning the expert electrician came. His diagnosis was accurate, and resulted in determining that the socket had developed a disconnect. He solved that on the spot.
In earlier years, Moss remodeled our master bathroom and dressing area splendidly.

Moss recently completed a kitchen renovation in our 1967 home, and I have to say they made this process the most painless experience I think possible. Starting when Damon and our project manager Dave paid their first visit to talk about the project. Dave was very knowledgeable about what could or could not be done (they accomplished everything we wanted) and Damon’s bid was very detailed, honest and extremely thorough, compared to 2 other bids I got which did not contain the same detail and did not promise to credit/debit the price according to what materials we picked. Moss sets a limit for each section and if you choose higher end materials than originally discussed, obviously you pay more but if the opposite happens, they deduct from the final amount (No other contractor could give me that assurance). The customer service with this firm is so refreshing. They assign you a customer care rep, ours was Jodi and she was wonderful. She kept me informed and provided resources including vendors I would not have known about and even met me at these places to introduce them and help pick things out. Dave our Project Manager also a phone call/email away, let me know ahead of time when people would be coming. He kept me informed about the schedule, what was happening next and constantly stopping by to check on the work and to see if I had any questions. Not one single time was a wondering if/when someone was showing up. We had a slight delay due to asbestos in our kitchen, however they picked right up after that was abated and even sped up a few days. The subs they use are very professional, Rick and his team did an amazing job, constantly finished things ahead of schedule and kept the area clean when they left. Attention to details and constant communication is what impressed me most about Moss. They are the opposite of every horror story you hear about contractors. More...
