We reached out to Moreno Construction based on their positive reviews, description of services, and proximity to our house.  Our project was to finish a wet half basement by adding a bathroom, bedroom and family room, adding stairs down to basement from inside the house, reconfigure the outside exit, re-do the upstairs bathroom and remove a kitchen wall to add an island.  Eloy met with us in person and had the best plan of attack to make sure the basement would stay dry, had a competitive price, and best estimated start to finish timeline. The project started on time, Eloy and his crew arrived as a team and left as a team.  They worked seamlessly together and left a clean job site every day.  Any hiccup in the project was unknowable at the initial start  and Eloy did a good job of clearly explaining what caused the change and what our options would be.  Michelle who is the office manager was an excellent liaison between us and the city and as well as facilitated any other project management areas. The project finished as we expected with no surprises, Eloy was able to accommodate final changes and extras we requested to be added onto the scope.  We have already recommended Moreno friends/family looking for contracting services. We had significant damage in our guestroom from a leak in the apartment above which went unnoticed for several days and by then required that sections of the wall and ceiling be exposed to dry it all out.  We then contacted Moreno Construction to repair,  replaster and paint the affected areas.  This was done expertly in just a few days, with extra care given to the architectural details and upholstered walls.  Mr. Moreno and his crew were extremely pleasant to deal with, very clean and very professional.  We also had a problem with the radiator cover in our panelled dining room which they replaced.  I would recommend them without hesitation and look forward to working with Eloy and Michelle on future projects. We had Moreno Construction recently remodel two bathrooms consecutively this past spring/summer. It was a project that my husband and I had been planning on for some time, and we were obviously excited/ nervous for the process to begin. Once we met Eloy for the estimate we immediately knew we had found the perfect contractor we were always hoping to find. Not only did he make us feel comfortable from the beginning but his insight and ideas were exactly what we needed. We had our ideas but once he threw in his experienced knowledgeable ideas, our excitement grew. Throughout the entire process Eloy and his whole crew were not only the nicest and professional group of guys, but their work is top notch. Even when we through last minute changes or curveballs at them, Eloy's response was ALWAYS... "not a problem".  Their work exceeded our expectations and we are ecstatic with the final outcome. Dealing with Michelle in the office could not have been more pleasurable. If we had a question about ANYTHING she immediately responded to us. Again, we are so grateful that we found Moreno Construction and could not recommend them any higher. We look forward to working with them again VERY SOON !!! More...

Our project was to remodel our kitchen, install recessed lights throughout the house, convert existing wood-burning fireplace into gas fireplace, rebuild our fireplace mantel, finish our garage, build a laundry area, and rebuild/reinforce our storage deck in our garage. We spent 2 months looking for someone to work on it. First, it was not even easy to have contractors to bid for our project (many never replied to our emails). Luckily, we found and contacted Moreno Construction on Yelp, and Eloy was able to come at 8am on a Saturday Morning. We got around 4 bids in total (after contacting 10-15 contractors), and chose to work with Eloy, since we were very impressed by Eloy's understanding of the technical details during our discussion. We asked a lot of questions, and Eloy was patient to answer our questions. Also, his suggestion on how we should build our garage storage deck made the most sense to us. Furthermore, Eloy was able to take care of permits and inspection, while many other contractors asked us to get an owner's permit. We'd want to have a licensed contractor apply for permit and handle the inspections, so this was a huge plus for usThe remodeling took a bit longer than we hoped, but it was because of the Kraftmaid cabinets we purchased ourselves. During the second week of our project, Eloy and his crew carefully inspected our cabinets for manufacture flaws and found quite a few dents and chipped paint. Instead of asking us to use the flawed cabinets, Eloy encouraged us to contact the vendor to get replacements, and we followed his suggestion. We then talked to the cabinet vendors and found out that it would take ~6 weeks for some critical parts to arrive, yet Moreno Construction was able to wait for our cabinets to arrive! We were quite picky on the details throughout the project, but as long as we told them how we would like it (or why we thought it could be done better), they were able to make the adjustments, such as truing the outlets, cabinets, removing flaws in the grouts, patching hairline cracks and chipped paint. Also, some of our Kraftmaid cabinet doors were so poorly made that some required 3-4 replacements to get it right. Remarkably, Eloy and his crew were patient enough to help us replace the door again and again!A few months after the remodeling (after we have paid in full), we saw water coming out under the wall behind our washing machine. We thought there might be a leak and contacted them. They came to our house the next day and opened up the wall for us without charging us. The leak turned out to be a leaking fridge on the other side of the wall and had nothing to do with their work. They then patched the wall for us, and we only paid for the extra paint they bought for us to repaint the wall! I can tell that they take a lot of pride in their work and take the responsibility for the quality of the work. We're really happy that we've used Moreno Construction. Looking back, hiring them was one of the best decisions we made for our remodeling. We'll definitely hire them for future home improvement projects. More...

Our home is 65 years old. Years ago we had iron railings placed on our front stairs. That contractor put cracks in the cement stairs and water started leaking in. Needless to say, everything under our stairs got wet, moldy, and the wood became rotten. We contacted about 10 contractors. 5 responded. Eloy construction was one of the 5. I liked his honesty and he suggested we might be able to repair the "bad" parts instead of a total replacement. He provided a competitive quote for these repairs. After coming in and removing the exposed rotten wood, they showed us just how bad the damage was - total removal and replacement of the front stairs was needed! Again, a "very" good price was provided and the work began. His lead guy (Jesus), was meticulous about all aspects of the job. Tearing it down, placing the framework, adding the cement, waterproofing, melding the stucco to our existing stucco, adding the iron railings back on (since "code" required them to add an additional step), and of course painting. Their crew cleaned up after themselves every day. They were here every weekday morning at 7:30 and worked until 5 or 6 pm. They did an "Excellent" job and even the city inspector was very impressed with their work (he came out about 4 times to inspect as the work was progressing). I can't emphasize just how happy we were with the entire job! We will be using them again! More...

Eloy and his crew are amazing. I unfortunately made the mistake of hiring the wrong contractor for a remodeling job, we parted ways but I was left with work that was incomplete and some of which was done incorrectly. I didn't know what to do, so I yelped contractors on the Peninsula and came across Moreno Construction.  I called Eloy, we chatted about my remodeling project and he was at my house the following day. From the get go I was impressed with his level of knowledge, thoroughness and honesty.  I'm extremely detailed oriented, ask tons of questions and Eloy was patient with me as he answered all my question, pointed out everything that needed to be done, how long it would take and he had a quote ready for me the next day.  Eloy is a very busy, but he was empathetic about my situation and said he would make some time in his schedule to help me out. Three days later he was at my house with 6 of his guys. I was amazed with the amount and quality of work they were able to get done in such a short period of time.  He and his crew take great pride in their work and have made construction into an art form.  From now on Moreno Construction is the only contractor I will consider when it comes to any remodeling job at my home. For some reason my post above was misplaced so I'm posting it again. Eloy and team were very responsive and treated us as if we were their best client.  Beyond the solid work, excellent contacts within DPW, competitive bid, and timeliness and responsiveness, there was an element of human decency that extended beyond their work.  As an example, my elderly parents were carrying some packages up a flight a stairs and one of his guys stopped his work to help them.I would strongly recommend Moreno and team to handle any job you might have. Is there a higher rating than 5 stars?  If there was, I would certainly give that to Moreno Construction.I bought a 1925 house in San Francisco that needed a kitchen refresh, a completely new bathroom, the garage opening widened, along with having the entire interior painted, upstairs hardwood floors refinished, and a myriad of other repair/maintenance projects that needed to be taken care of.  My interior decorator introduced me to Eloy for the work.  His bid was detailed and very fair, and he came highly recommended by her so I felt very comfortable awarding him the projects.Eloy, Eloy Jr, Melvin, Jesus, and the rest of the crew moved mountains for me.  I gave them only about 5 weeks to get things done before I had to move into the house.  Eloy said he could tackle everything except the bathroom remodel before I moved in, and would be able to do that about 6 weeks later.  He delivered. They worked until 6 or 7pm every day, and several weekends to make sure I could comfortably move in.  And also as promised, they came back a little over a month later to do the bathroom remodel.  All the work was permitted, and came out beautifully.I am a single woman, and I was treated fairly and with absolute respect.  They have taken incredible care of me and the house.  They called all their clients after the last big rain storm to make sure everyone was OK and didn't need any emergency repairs.  Not because they were looking to drum up work  (they are in demand as it is), but to make sure their long-standing clients were taken care of first.  And when I have had an emergency (always unrelated to their work, just old house issues cropping up), someone has come out either the same day or within a day.  This is the 3rd home remodel I've taken on, and Moreno Construction is by far the best contractor I've worked with.  I can recommend them without hesitation or reservation. We hired Moreno Construction to completely renovate our kitchen, including demolishing a couple of walls.  We tried to get bids from many different contractors since it was a major project for us, but had poor luck with many, who either provided no detail, refused to provide detail unless we signed a contract, never got back to us, or wanted to shape the project to suit their desires instead of ours.  I have no idea why so many contractors think they can run a business this way, but that's another story. In contrast, Eloy Jr worked with us over the course of a few weeks and gave us a fairly detailed proposal (but not enough detail, see the con below) without any pressure to sign anything.  He was available to answer our questions and came by our house a few times that were convenient for us to discuss things.  We selected them based on their ability and willingness to communicate openly and the fact that their quote was competitive and close to our budget.  They also had good reviews on Yelp and their references spoke highly of them.Once we signed the contract, they started right away and things generally moved pretty quickly, with a few notable and avoidable exceptions.  They finished pretty close to their expected completion date and stayed on budget.  Once the project was over, there were a few additional items that needed correcting, and they did come back to address them, standing behind their work.  It wasn't all sunshine and roses like the other reviews though.  Here are some pros and cons as I see them.Pros:1. The crew was professional and polite and was good at cleaning up the mess.2. They were efficient and punctual and even worked on some weekends to accommodate our schedule.3. They finished within a week of the promised end date and with only a small cost overrun (noted below in the cons).  Based on other kitchen renovation stories, this is unusual.4. They handled all communications with the cabinet maker and replaced multiple door fronts until we were satisfied with the result.5. The quality of the end product is pretty good.  6. They handled all town inspections and permitting at no additional upcharge (unlike other contractors who charged extra or required you to get the permit).7. They resanded and put a final coat on the wood floor a few times without complaining until we were satisfied with the quality of the work (which was admittedly not that great the first couple times).8. Both Eloy and Eloy Jr are very friendly and nice to work with.  You never got the feeling they were trying to charge you extra or do work you didn't want.Cons:1. Communication deteriorated after the project started.  While they had the major items covered, we had to keep track of little details so they didn't get lost in the cracks.  We had to have multiple project meetings to go over things and I rarely saw anyone with a notebook.  As a result, I had to remind them several times of the same thing.  Everything ultimately got done, but prepare to be a backup project manager.  For example, we did a lot of leg work on the granite slabs except for the final ordering (which was included in the contract), and in the end, the wrong granite was delivered to the fabricator anyway.  If we hadn't requested to see it before it was fabricated, we would have had the wrong countertop.  Another example is light placement - it took us to notice (early on thankfully) that one of the fixtures was probably going to end up pointing directly on top of the fridge door instead of in front of it. 2. Contract specificity could have been better.  For example, the contract didn't specify where light switches would go and what they would do.  Instead, we had a brief discussion in the middle of the project with Eloy Sr one morning while trying to rush out the door to go to work.  In the end, there was a misunderstanding and a couple switches got put in locations that we didn't want.  Because the final electrical isn't connected until the end, you may not knot what switch controls what until its too late.  They fixed one for free but charged us $275 to fix the other.  This could all have been avoided with more specificity in the contract.  Light switch operations may seem like a minor detail on an entire kitchen renovation, but you'll be living with those choices for a long time, so better to get them right at the beginning.  This applies to any and all of the smallest details (e.g. is the drywall going to be smooth or textured? ) -- get them down as specific as possible in writing in the beginning even if it seems to take forever.  This will save you arguing at the end of the project.  Make drawings and make copies and make sure everyone agrees.I realize that lack of specificity is partially our fault and we will do better next time, but before signing Eloy insisted they would take care of any details to make us happy. To a certain degree they did, but not entirely.  Better to just get it all down.  Lesson learned. More...

Looking for a Licensed Contractor is one of the hardest steps about starting your project. If you get this first step wrong, then everything else is a nightmare! We've all heard about Contractors that don't know what they are doing, go over budget, ignore your calls..or you yourself know someone who's had a bad experience.   Looking for a Licensed Contractor that knows what he is doing like Eloy and his team - that's like finding a needle in a haystack!I was referred to Eloy from one of my friend's who is an Interior Designer who had personally used him a few times on her projects. With that being said, I called Eloy up, and left him a message - he called me back within a day. He came over to look at our sad master bathroom which when we bought our place, had been done by a decorator and issues were showing. We hadn't used our shower for about 2 years because we were afraid of wood rot and other issues under our shower pan. Grout was falling off like no one's business - bad sign because you have no idea if its cosmetic or worse. Our glass shower door was crooked and looked like someone had too much fun with a glue gun. Our cabinets were slightly crooked, toilet needed an upgrade, and there was a really odd overhang beam with trim on our ceiling...can't explain it really and not sure what the Decorator was thinking. Overall...not good.Eloy gave us a very fair bid compared to a few other Contractors that we met. What I appreciated most was a detailed bid from him. Some Contractors come in and just throw you a number and don't break it down on paper for you to review. Other's come in and throw numbers you want to hear, but know are too low for a decent job. In the end, we decided to work with Eloy after he came over a 2nd time to answer a few more questions. Plus with my friend's own experience...I felt good about our decision. Eloy even accommodated our tight schedule with our baby due soon.  He and his team completed our project within less than 3 weeks! His crew was always professional, polite, and respectful. They came on time in the morning with a smile and really started setting up before they even started on our bathroom by prepping their walkway with covered drop cloths to protect our bamboo floors. Since our bathroom is on the 2nd floor, they taped down drop cloths everyday before they started and removed them when they left. They vacuumed along the way while doing demolition and installation and they wiped down my floors before they went home. During demolition they were even thoughtful to tape plastic everywhere to protect our other rooms and closets to minimize dust and debris. Our ceilings are very high in our master bedroom and they taped this long plastic cover from the top to the bottom. Our room was really pretty clean for going through demo in our bathroom. When I swiffered afterwards, I picked up less than 10% of debris! So amazing!  Overall, I would definitely work with Eloy again. His team was professional, efficient, knowledgeable, polite, respectful, and their workmanship was great! We have another bathroom which we'd like to upgrade in a year or two, and I will call Moreno Construction again. Thanks for such a great and easy experience! I will be referring him to my friends and clients for sure. Now to go and take a fabulous shower! More...

We initially started looking for a contractor in August.  After a few bids and too many uninterested contractors, I went to Yelp to see what I could find.  Lucky for me, I found Moreno Construction.  We weren't just doing the run of the mill face lift/remodel.  We had big plans and were looking for someone who was eager to help them to come to fruition. We sat down with Eloy and went over our initial concerns, ideas, budget, etc.   He drew up the bid based on what we talked about and got it back to us in just a few days.  His bid was right in line with what we had planned on spending but also gave us a little wiggle room in case he ran into any major problems once he tore up a 50+ year old house.  We had a really good feeling about working with Eloy and knew immediately that we wanted to hire him for the job.  We decided to start our renovation after the holidays so about a month before the project began, Eloy came over with his crew to take final measurements, go over the plans and layout, and address any of our concerns.  He and his crew are extremely professional.  They work efficiently and when they say the job will be done on time-they mean it!  And best of all, I went home to a clean house every day throughout our 5 week renovation.  The job was done on time, within budget and came out better than I could have ever imagined.  It really doesn't get much better than that!We are so pleased with Eloy's work , his crew and his attention to detail.  We look forward to working with him again on future projects. This is my first yelp review but I felt that I needed to share. I started getting estimates for our kitchen remodel in June I was not comfortable with the bids I was recieving back they were all so vague and lacked many details, I felt there could be unexpected hidden costs. Eloy Moreno came out to our home we went over a number of options for our kitchen it is a small kitchen and we wanted to utilize all the space. He took measurements went on the roof  and into the basement looking at the pre existing structure, pipes and vents, etc. Eloy promised me a estimate  and I had  a very detailed estimate hand delivered to me in a few days. The estimate had all the cost broken down  Demomolition, Electrical, Plumbing,  etc. it was very easy to understand the cost  of the materials and labor. Moreno construction started our kitchen demo on August 8th.  I guess you would say this is the messiest part of any remodel but these guys rocked it.They are so clean the rest of the house was not effected by the dirt and dust. Everyday before they left everything was neat and tidy inside and outside the house. They replaced three windows so they were working outside too. I recieved many comments from my neighbors on how polite the crew was and how they left the work site so neat. Demo complete electical upgrade done, new windows in and now the fun stuff! The stone floor, new  custom cabinets, granite counters, new appliances, backsplash, under counter lighting all in and so beautifully installed! There finish work is outstanding our home was built in the 30's so molding and flooring transitions needed to match the original and they did a great job. The remodel went very smoothly. Moreno Construction treated my projects with professionalism and got the project done on time and done correctly. They are also great with being on time with appointments and following through with what they say they will do when they say they will do it.I highly recommend them. I've been a loyal customer of Moreno Construction for almost 20 years.  I've bought and sold a number of multi-unit buildings in San Francisco, and I always turn to MC to remodel them.  He's honest, hard working and always does a quality job.  His crews are nice people, always clean up after themselves, and never leave a mess.  We always pass inspection, and the jobs are finished on time.Eloy & crew have done every phase of the work I've needed, whether its roof replacement, system upgrades, new foundations, paint, refinish floors, etc.  I'm always confident that they will do what's needed, on time, and on budget.  MC is a key partner in all of my real estate projects, and will continue to be as long as I keep doing them.I can't recommend them more highly.  Yay for Eloy! We have a two unit victorian in SF and hired Moreno Construction to address condo conversion requirements from the city, and remodel the kitchen and bathroom in both units. This included new central heating, plumbing, electrical, and a lot of finish work. We couldn't be happier with the results. Eloy and his crew are unbelievably professional and focused on making their clients happy. They are fair and friendly, and know how to work with inspectors and the building department in SF quickly and efficiently. The remodel looks really great - the quality of the work is high and Eloy had many suggestions along the way for affordable ways to source materials, appliances, etc. The project ran smoothly, which I completely attribute to their level of skill, experience, and great communication. I highly recommend them, and look forward to working together on future projects! More...

I was impressed by Eloy Moreno, owner of Moreno Construction. He is a very down to business kind of fellow. Easy to talk to to and to get a hold of when there is an issue or question. There are some contractors that say they will be at your house at a certain hour and then never show - Eloy is not one of them. His word is as good as gold! His team is excellent and the subsequent work is top notch.I would not hesitate to recommend him to any friends and family who needed a general contractor. I would hire him again without batting an eyelash. His prices are fair. He remodeled a bathroom and kitchen and an upstairs attic for us. it looks amazing! More...
