I met with Mary Grace Photography to set up my professional author photo. Mary Grace met with me for a consultation, and she listened to what kind of look I wanted, and we discussed the photographs on her portfolio that fit my ideas. She was very easy to talk to, and she definitely knew what I was going for. We met in my house and she had great ideas for taking my photograph. It is easy to feel on edge when the camera is focused on you as a subject, but Mary Grace made it fun and easygoing, and I had a blast. It was easy to take direction for her ideas. She listened to my questions and also paid attention to my body language to see what was comfortable for me. I not only was happy with the photo shoot but I was very satisfied with the resulting photographs. It was difficult to choose from so many great photos. I cherish my photos taken by Mary Grace Long Photography. My family has had two photo series with Mary Grace and the pictures are beautiful. All of us look natural and at ease. At one session my two sons were in their teens. Mary Grace made them feel comfortable poses and trying stances. Mary Grace has taken photos for us in a variety of settings and situations: family photo shoot, photos of our kids, headshots, and events. In all of those settings, whether she's sitting you down and helping you pose just right or catching candid photos of an event, across the board she has an amazing ability to capture more than what's simply right in front of you. She photographs not just the person, but the personality. Not just the event, but the celebration. I'm most amazed at the pictures of my kids. They are always active, but she has a way of slowing them down enough to capture them in a way that helps me see pieces of them that I don't often slow down enough to see. When I see the photos Mary Grace takes of them, I always say, "Yep, that's Sydney right there," or "Yep, that's Jade for you!" It's like she captures the phase of development/interests they are in at the moment and wraps it up neatly in a beautiful photo that I can look back on to remember this time in their childhood. Mary Grace is a phenomenal photographer. I have six children and several of them can be shy in front of the camera. Mary Grace is hilarious, warm and silly with my kids--she can make my most camera-shy child crack up and get an amazing shot his adorable smile at the same time. I know I can trust her to capture my children's true personalities on film--in both traditonal poses and in sweet, candid moments, and make both look so natural. Mary Grace Long turns a photo into a work of art. Somehow she captures an essence that allows the eye to see more than what it's looking at! She photographed my family and I actually saw my sons in a new light (no pun intended!), from her suggestions of stance, movement and catching the perfect moments of their interactions. She's a delight to work with; energetic and full of ideas. Never were we uncomfortable in any way. It was like she caught a great performance through her skill at directing us.
