My husband and I hired Melissa as our doula after numerous interviews with others because she was very mellow and calm and open minded. Her and my husband really hit it off, which was important to me as they were going to be working closely together. Our prenatal appointments were great for getting to know each other and for helping cover the timeline and plan for when labor started. She was in contact with me towards the end almost daily and sent me great educational material whenever I had a question and helped keep my spirits up. I went into labor ON my due date! Things picked up rapidly and my husband called her panicked and she was calm and quick to head over and was there from then on through almost midnight and the birth of my baby girl. When I hit transition, I started questioning an epidural and she was so accepting of it if I wanted that but gently reminded me of my plan and how far along I was and really gave me that push I needed at the end to have an unmedicated birth. The birth of my second child was a beautiful and completely different experience from my first and that is thanks, in large part, to Melissa and her experience and advocation of what I needed for myself during this labor and delivery. She was worth every single penny twice over and I would highly recommend a doula from Welcome Baby KC. More...

We worked with Lauren at Welcome Baby and I am SO glad we did. We were very late in the game to be deciding on a doula (we just kept putting it off) but Lauren was ready and willing to help us. She was a fantastic resource, answering all our questions during meetings and supporting our desires for the delivery.I did not know much about doulas before my wife got pregnant but my advice to anyone considering it - do it, 100%. What I greatly appreciated was how Lauren was texting with both of us throughout the labor process, giving advice and suggestions, and the fact she came right away when we arrived at the hospital, spending 14 hours with us there until delivery. This could have been a scary or anxious time but Lauren's presence made it very low stress. She answered dozens of questions while we waited for nurses and doctors and her knowledge and experience made her a tremendous resource during a potentially trying time. I have no regrets and am incredibly thankful for everything she did for us. More...

My husband and I worked with Lauren at welcome baby KC for our first baby this fall. I am so glad we decided to hire her! She went above and beyond to make sure we had a positive birth experience . We meet with her several times leading up to our birth to work on our preferences and talk about what to expect before, during and after. When I went into labor she was with us every step of the way, via phone and text while we were still at home and then for 14 hours with us at the hospital. She took so much pressure off of my husband and I and allowed us to relax because we had someone there who was just there for US. I highly recommend working with Lauren. We couldn't have done it without her! More...

Stacie was absolutely incredible when she took engagement photos for my fiancé and I and then she took family pictures for us! She got shots that she wanted but wanted our opinions as well for what we envisioned for pictures. We can’t thank her enough for her gorgeous work! If you are thinking about getting family photos, an engagement session or really anything, hit her up! Her work is amazing!! More...

We met Nicole while taking several of her classes at Shawnee Mission when I was pregnant with our first child. My husband was very impressed with her (which is a big deal for him) and I knew I wanted to have her as our doula if we had a second child (we had already hired a doula for our first pregnancy). I had a c section with my first child and I knew I wanted to try for natural VBAC when I found out we were pregnant again. From the moment I contacted her, Nicole was so supportive of my desire for a VBAC and never doubted that I could have the labor I desired. We met prior to the birth (we had one long meeting instead of a few shorter meetings) and discussed childbirth physiology, birthing positions, coping techniques, etc. She really took the time to get to know me so that she could be the best help possible during birth. She made me feel confident in my ability to birth the way I wanted to and I felt so at peace going into my birth knowing she was going to be my advocate and support person. When I look back at my son’s birth, I can’t imagine going through it without her. She just knew what I needed, when I needed it. She had me changing positions, going to the bathroom, listening to music, smelling essential oils, etc. It felt natural for her to be there and my husband always felt a part of the birth. She helped walk me through the decision process when interventions were proposed and never made me feel guilty for getting an epidural after 16 hours of labor. I ended up needed an urgent c section because the baby’s heart rate was dropping. As they were rushing me out the door, I looked back and she was explaining everything to my husband and helping him gown up for the OR. She was there when I woke up from surgery (she had been working over 36 hours at this point!) and had my husband doing skin-to-skin with baby. His birth wasn’t like anything I imagined it would be but I felt prepared for anything to happen and I’m completely at peace with how the labor transpired. One thing that really stood out for me was the log, or timeline, Nicole recorded of the events during labor - which positions we were using, when interventions were done, etc. – and I loved looking at it the next day. I had no sense of time when I was in labor; 2 hours felt like 15 minutes. It is so cool to have this story of his birth. Since we’ve come home, she has reached out to me several times to make sure breastfeeding, hormones, and momma are doing well and surviving. Nicole is great and I would recommend her in a heartbeat. If we have a third child (my husband just audibly gasped), she will be one of the first people I contact. More...

Three babies in three years and Welcome Baby KC has been an integral part in each of them. From Stacie's amazing photography skills to placental encapsulation with Samantha to the depth of doula knowledge with Lauren, our birthing experiences would have been vastly different without them. What sets WBKC apart is that they don't simply provide the service offered- they truly go above and beyond to support a mama in her pregnancy journey and beyond. Stacie has been a photographer and jumped in with her doula skill set, Lauren has been part cheerleader, part friend, part mama bear, and Samantha has provided encapsulation with additional continuing support. They are truly a benefit to the entire community in their support of mothers and ensuring that we are the most prepared we can possibly be! More...

I recently had the pleasure of working with Lauren Letterman at my most recent birth. When searching for a Doula I knew I wanted someone who wasn't going to tell me how to birth, rather I wanted someone who believed in me and would help guide me through whatever type of birth I chose. Lauren fit the bill to a T. She was informative of all my birthing options, knew the hospital and staff well, and helped me during one of my most difficult births I had ever experienced. When my birth didn't go as I imagined it would, it was Lauren who checked on me and my family, brought us dinner and games to keep my littles entertained. When everyone else was checking on Baby, Lauren was checking on me. I listened to her sound advice and had a wonderful postpartum recovery. I highly recommend Lauren. More...

I couldn't have made it through such a long labor without this awesome support system! Lauren had so many tricks up her sleeve to try and help me progress. She was also very informative about what to expect once it was time to go into the hospital. I never felt like I was doing anything blind. After helping me labor all through the night, Lauren went home and sent in Melissa who had such a calm and relaxing vibe. She did a great job of coaching me through the pushing phase. I will definitely recommend Welcome Baby KC to any future pregnant friends! More...

I am a big believer in doulas after having one at my first. But, with my second I wanted something different from my doula. I wanted to be educated, empowered and have the support my husband and I needed. Little did I know how perfect of a choice I made. Lauren was phenomenal. She was caring, compassionate, took the time to do everything she said she was going to do, communicated frequently before and after birth, gave me resources I didn't know existed and used knowledge I definitely didn't have to make my birth end the way I wanted. My second birth required someone who understood baby positioning (and ways to help baby get into proper position) along with how to support a mom going through a difficult birth. Lauren knocked it out of the park. I can honestly say both me and my husband believe that without Lauren my second all-natural birth at a birth center would not have happened. She literally saved the day for us and will be at any future births for me and my family. More...

I cannot say enough great things about Welcome Baby KC, especially Melissa and Lauren. In February I gave birth to my 5th baby and Melissa was my FABULOUS doula. I've known Melissa for a few years prior to working with her, so I knew that we'd work well together. She was fantastic support throughout our 'almost' scares, every time I had a question she was willing to talk me through it so I didn't have to google it. When it got to the last few weeks of my pregnancy and I was super impatient she was sooo supportive and Lauren was great about keeping my head where it needed to be, reminding me to stay busy and not be impatient (hello affirmations), when we thought we were in labor she came over at 3 am and quietly watched and suggested we get some rest. I needed to get out of the house and get my mind off of the baby not coming so she went to yoga with me where Lauren showed me all of the safe modifications I needed to do.

During Labor Melissa was great about encouraging me to drink and use the bathroom. When hubby needed a bathroom break it was such a relief to not be left alone. At one point I was dilated to a 10 on one side but only a 7 on the other side and Melissa recommended the peanut ball. Within a couple of contractions Baby V was in my arms.

I can honestly say that I wish I'd had her as a doula for my other 4 babies and if (a really BIG IF) we have any more (98.9% sure we're done) Melissa will be our doula.

We hired Melissa to be our doula to help with our hopes of an unmedicated birth, but unfortunately due to complications toward the end of my pregnancy I ended up having to schedule a c-section. Melissa's support was invaluable in dealing with the difficulties leading up to and after surgery, and she was with us every step of the way. She was thoughtful and kind and provided me with tons of helpful educational resources to help get me through an already fragile being pregnant and coping with the loss of my birth plan; she even put me in touch with someone who had been through the same situation for me to reach out to for additional support. Even though she didn't have to, she still came to support me on the (VERY early) morning of my surgery and waited til I was released out of recovery to make sure everything went ok. She was always accessible leading up to and after birth and checked in on me regularly, which meant so much knowing that she really cared how I was doing. Even though things didn't work out as planned, I'm so grateful we had Melissa to help through a tough time, and can't wait to hire her again to help with my next birth. Thank you, Melissa! More...

I have a shout-out that is so long overdue. I've been struggling with coming up with the best words to describe how thankful I am for Amanda Casey coming into our lives. We decided to hire Amanda as our postpartum doula because we knew we would need help with the twins and I really wanted to make breastfeeding work this last time. Amanda had several sessions with me before the Twins were born as she is a lactation educator and wanted me to be best prepared. Once they were here she came over and just jumped right in and helped my husband and I with anything and everything that we needed. She cooked, cleaned, grocery shopped, played with our toddler, took care of the babies, allowed us to nap and rest, gave me tips and assisted with breastfeeding and waited on us hand and foot. It was so comfortable having her in our house and we looked forward to each and every visit. My only regret with hiring Amanda as our postpartum doula was that we didn't buy a bigger package. If you are expecting or know anyone expecting, I highly highly recommend reaching out to Amanda and seeing if she is available to be your postpartum doula. More...

I used Amanda Casey for postpartum doula services after having my fourth baby. I wish I would have had her for every support after every birth! She was attentive, helpful, knowledgable, and helped me take care of me. Her calm and gentle nature put my kids at ease and she even taught me the correct way to hand express breastmilk, a skill that no one had shown me before. Postpartum care is so important and Amanda makes the mother feel mothered in the best way.

I also used Samantha for placenta encapsulation. I have used three different individuals for placenta encapsulation and Samantha stands out as she is only certified APPA encapsulator in the KC area. I loved that she provided a transportation kit for my placenta. Such a small thing made a big difference when it came time to head to the hospital as I already had the kit in our bags and I didn't have to remember to grab one of our coolers and plastic bags. She was wonderful about helping support me through the first few days and checking in with me to see if I needed anything. I would definitely use her again.
