I'll admit I'm not normally a huge fan of photos of myself, so when I needed a portrait done as part of a gift, I was at a loss for what to do. Then I found Kelsey. When I explained my idea, she immediately jumped on-board offering all sorts of insight into a world I knew nothing about, such as suggesting appropriate color schemes to fit my idea, to hunting down the perfect location for my background. What’s the secret to taking a great photograph?
Lighting is King - don't underestimate the importance of a well-rounded (and supplied) lighting kit. You can have everything else perfect in the photo and still not have it live up to expectations if you fumble on the lighting.
What questions might you ask a client when starting a new project?
Knowing your subject is key. If you don't understand what the client is looking for then how can you deliver what they are wanting? What grabs someone's attention first in a photo is subjective to the viewer. Getting to know you, and what you are hoping for from your end results, enables us to bring out the qualities you appreciate most of all throughout your session. Questions may include: what are you planning on doing with your photos, who will be viewing your photos, or what do you want your photos to say about you.
What do you love most about your job?
I love getting to meet and work with new people all the time as well as coming up with new and creative ways to capture whatever subject I am photographing. My favorite part of the job is after I send the proofs and clients express back their love about an unexpected angle or moment that I managed to capture.
