If Kari is available on your wedding day, hire him!! I was fortunate enough to have him capture our beautiful wedding in July 2021. He is the most patient, receptive and affirming photographer I’ve ever met. His communication prior and following our event was superb! He knows how to frame people so that everyone looks their best and gives great directions. Kari was our photographer for our brief wedding ceremony at City Hall in Buffalo a couple of weeks ago. We never had any prior experience hiring a professional photographer and Kari was absolutely amazing. We contacted Kari with very short notice, but he was very accommodating and understanding of the circumstances. He arrived early with all of his gear, and although we were a bit nervous, he quickly put us at ease and made the whole shoot extremely fun and something we will never forget. What’s the secret to taking a great photograph?
Light, Light, Light! The right kind of light always makes things better. Knowing how to find and/or reproduce great light time after time in tough situations such as dimly lit halls is what separates pros from amateurs.
What questions might you ask a client when starting a new project?
I usually ask my wedding photography clients about something a little personal (like where they met or how long they've been together) so I can get to know them a little better and open up a fun conversation. I also ask about their ballpark budget and we usually go from there.
For other events and gatherings, I'd like to know the occasion, how many people are coming, and what the event space looks like.
For editorial and commercial work I want to know the look and feel of the concept. I always want to see mood boards and if we don't have one I'd like to be in on creating one.
What do you love most about your job?
I love being around people, I really feed off the energy of others and there is not really anything better than being in a room full of people celebrating.
I am also a tiny bit of an editing and post-processing nerd. I can sit for hours in front of the laptop and edit, retouch, re-arrange, and sequence images to tell the right story.
What inspired you to start your own business?
It is a bit of my old romantic 'lone photographer traveling the world' dream and the fact that I want to build something from the ground up.
I moved to the US 6 years ago to get a BFA in Photography (which I did from Parsons School of Desing in 2018) and to start my own business. So far so good :)
