A lot of places around here are difficult to get in and $$$$. This place let me walk-in and the wait time was minimal. The staff seemed truly concerned with the welfare of my dog. They explained everything really well and went over all the options with me. I was a bit strapped for cash but they worked with me to get the most important things done for my pup. I'm so glad I found this place. The doctor was wonderful and so were all the staff. The building looks a bit old, but I am beyond satisfied and I think I have found my permanent vet now. Thank you to the staff and the doctor!!! More...

Everyone was really nice. The doctors were super helpful. I really liked this vet and will be definitely coming back. I called yesterday morning, they gave me an estimate of 59$ for a stray kitten I found on my porch. They actually worked me in that day!!! When I checked out, the bill was exactly 59$. A lot I didn't know and they were super helpful and educated me a lot about the things I would need to know to take care of my rescued kitten.Love this place! More...

Was taking my  pets to Banfield. I had some bad experiences so decided to go somewhere else. The doctors and staff were exceptional in their care and concern. They also made me feel very comfortable. The prices are fantastic (not the cheapest, but not the most) and they didn't seem concerned about anything but my pets and me. I have found my new "other" family doctor!!!!!!!! More...

Love this place.  The staff is always friendly and does a great job at caring for my dog.  They always provide top notch care where you don't find at many places.  What I love about them is that they always give a follow up call the day after seeing my dog and always are willing to find OHN her status.  If you're looking for a good place to take your animals this is the place in Jacksonville.  I wouldn't trust no other vet to look out after my dog. They don't let one use more than five stars, or it would be higher.  Years with the folks here and have only the highest praise for them.  The pooch has had great care.  We are leaving so will need to find another vet.  This is a high water mark for care, friendliness, and genuine concern. So glad he had such a great start to life with them. Highest endorsement and recommendation! More...

Dr. Brinson & Dr. Thomas are both amazing vets!! Dr. Brinson recently performed surgery on my dachshund after Banfield FAILED to see us in a timely matter (they wanted us to wait an entire month before they could see us) because we are on their astronomical monthly fee, they only cared about the dollar sign even though my dog had an infection--long story short: Banfield wanted my plan to renew (in July an entire month and a half before my plan is to cancel)  before they would see him or charge me an absurd FULL price instead of their "discounted" rate! Heres where this amazing place comes in: not only is College View/Jacksonville Vet Hospital our new vet now for my dogs provider, they took care of his surgery in a timely matter & provided the type of a care a vet's office should give! So impressed and cant recommend enough...& the BEST PART....they are AFFORDABLE!!!!!! Banfield wanted to charge me for all these asinine charges and Jacksonville Vet Hospital, only charged me for the procedure done. The radiographs alone at Banfield were $65 and here they were included in the surgery price, which was still cheaper than what Banfield wanted to charge! Overall, the surgery came in under $150 less than what Banfield quoted me WITH their monthly plan! STAY AWAY FROM BANFIELD IN JACKSONVILLE & go to vet who truly cares about animals and the care they receive! More...

I wanted to sincerely thank Dr. Thomas and the office staff especially Radara the assistant for the outstanding care they provided to my dog Salem in a time of need. Salem got very sick on a weekend and this was the first time we've ever had an incident like this. I was at my old vet (which I will not name) first thing Monday morning when they opened the doors. Immediately as I walked in they looked annoyed. They didn't greet me, ask about Salem, or show any concern. I've been taking her there for 3 years, since the day I brought her home. They told me that the doctor wasn't there yet. I asked if I could wait to see him because it was an emergency. They unbelievably told me no they were too busy. There wasn't a single patient there. I'm sure they had a busy day planned and I explained I wouldn't mind waiting but the expression on the woman's face let me know the moment I walked in the door she didn't have time for me today. They'd said they'd call me later that day and let me know when they could get me an appointment. Never even received that call by the way. That brings me to Jacksonville Veterinary Hospital. I left my old vet upset, shocked, and desperate. I decided to just stop in to Jacksonville Veterinary Hospital since it was the closest other clinic I could find. Immediately as we came in everyone I spoke too was concerned despite being actually very busy. There were people in the lobby but it didn't matter they immediately said they'd fit us in somehow. I was impressed they suggested I wait out at the car and they would personally come get me since they weren't sure what Salem had and didn't want to risk infecting the other animals. This obviously takes more effort on their part but it's the best things for the animals and it says something about the way they run their business. I don't think I waited 20 minutes before they came and got me. I could go on and on about the service and care I received. Salem was really struggling and I had no clue what it was. Dr Thomas tried a variety of things and did a great job explaining her thought process but it was clear it was going to take a while. Later that day Salem had an allergic reaction to one of the antibiotics and I called maybe 2 minutes before closing. Unbelievably they told me to bring her over ASAP and they would wait. So after hours she brought us in, gave her Benadryl and steroids, and calmed the reaction immediately. Then the next 5 days in a row I received a call from the office every day to get an update on how Salem was doing (Still waiting on a call from my old vet). Dr. Thomas prescribed more pro biotics over the phone without charging me for another appointment. She offered to take back the unopened prescription dog food Salem wouldn't eat. There was little improvement on the first 3 days but gradually over the course of a week and a half she got completely better. It go's without saying this is now my permanent vet and I'll tell anyone I see about the service I received and more importantly the sincere care. Thank you again to everyone we dealt with. More...

We have been taking our pets here for almost five years.  They were so compassionate when we had to say goodbye to our 14-year-old cat.  That has to be such a hard part of their job.We got our Sofie (Carolina mix dog) at six weeks.  They have taken care of her since we adopted her.  When she climbed a fence and disappeared for six weeks they kept her flyer posted in their waiting room until she returned.  They got her in immediately to be checked when she returned so that we could confirm she was malnourished but otherwise healthy. We adopted Conan (boxer mix) right before Sofie returned.  They've helped us keep him healthy, even when he eats things he shouldn't.  We had to bring him in as an emergency when he ate a full package of Nexgard.  They got him to vomit and that is when Conan became a story that will probably be remembered as long as he lives.  Somehow he had swallowed a large squeaker with no adverse side effects!  When he ate the Nexgard, the squeaker was one of the items they discovered. The ultimate test of a good vet office, to me, is how they treat emergencies of their clients and non-clients.  They have taken good care of our pets, but also took extremely good care of our grand-dog who was not one of their patients.  Sofie didn't like being challenged by a Chihuahua, so she snapped at him.  That snap cost him his eyesight.  We were taking care of him while our daughter and family were out-of-town.  They got him in immediately with her verbal approval and performed surgery immediately.  They gave us all options, including the price of each so that we could make a fully informed decision.  They stayed until an hour after closing for the surgery and recovery period.  Had he needed overnight care, they would have told us where we could take him to be observed overnight.Jacksonville Veterinary Hospital treats your pets like members of the family, not animals.  They will take care of our pets as long as they live. Dr. Koh is thorough and so nice. She's also vested in improving behavior, which is important to me. Dr. Brinson is very knowledgeable in behavior (I first met her in Greenville at dog training & behavior meetup) and will take the time to look at all the available solutions with you. Sometimes there are emergencies that set schedules back, but that's the way it goes anywhere. Love taking my dogs here also because they have higher standards of care (they are accredited AAHA). It's worth it. More...

We decided to come here based on the reviews and proximity to our house. The staff are so nice, respectful and loving towards our pets. We're currently dealing with possibly having to put down our dog and they have been wonderful through the process. Highly recommend them! I don't think I've ever met another vet in the last 13-14 years more professional and personable all at once! More...

Dr. Thomas answers all my questions, examines my furbabies carefully and thoroughly, and shares anecdotal stories about her pets. I hate that my cats are so stressed by the unruly dogs in the waiting rooms, but it's not the vet's fault that people don't train their dogs. Anyway, Dr. Thomas factors in cost when treating pets, and she even waived the emergency fee when my Baby was so sick and my (now previous) vet wouldn't take her in an emergency. When I email with a question, I always gets a phone call with a complete answer, and I even got a follow-up call on my little cat when we had to take him to the emergency vet on a Saturday for an eye infection. I expect the other vets in the office are equivalent to Dr. Thomas, but I have only seen her for my pets, and I would take any pet there and feel reassured upon leaving that they received the best care. After a terrible experience with Banfield, I went looking for a new vet and found Jacksonville Veterinary after they were referred by some friends.  This vet clearly cares about the animals and not the dollars they're getting to care (or barely pretend, as my experience with Banfield went).  They still couldn't get my dog (rottweiler, a little unwieldy if they wish to be non-compliant) to let them draw blood, but he had previously been traumatized by another vet, but, unlike Banfield, they were not scared of my dog or timid around him.So far, I only have great things to say about this veterinary clinic.Update 27 August, 2013:  I still have nothing but good things to say about Jacksonville Veterinary.  When it was discovered in late April that my dog has a chondrosarcoma (bone cancer emanating from cartilage)  they referred me out to a specialist, and then to NC State Veterinary School, who were able to definitively diagnose him and remove the tumor for a reasonable price (for such an extensive surgery).  Then Dr. Martin removed the stitches two weeks later and didn't even charge me for an office visit! I recently moved away from Jacksonville, and they were extremely accommodating.  They faxed my dog's records to the new vet and have been very helpful with the move.I would highly recommend this vet to anyone who is new to the area and looking, or is not satisfied with their current veterinarian. Great place to bring your dog/animal. This place really made me feel like i'm in a small town vet's office where the doctor remembers and loves your pet. Dr.s Padgett and Martin are wonderful. If there's a procedure that's unnecessary, they won't do it. What a pleasant surprise from the other vets I'm used. to. Will always to back :-) More...

They're incredibly awesome!I found a dog on the side of the road, took him in, and they were able to fit me in to the schedule to be seen. They got in touch with the dog's microchip company, only to find the owners didn't want him anymore. So they helped me to remove all of his ticks, and then gave me some free frontline to help with his fleas. They were really nice and helpful, and it really seemed like they really cared about the animals.
