Q&As

Ever since I was a child, playing with blocks and drawing weird buildings with crayons, I wanted to be an Architect. But as a child of the 60's, I was also very conscious of the world around me. When it came time for College, rather than going into an Architectural program, I opted for Urban Design (City Planning). After College, I went to work for HUD (U.S. Dept. of Housing and Urban development). While designing city scapes, I feel in love with many of the buildings we were slating for demolition. On the side, I even helped some of the residents get their structures placed on the National Trust For Historic Preservation; which meant we couldn't use federal funds to demolish them. Didn't go over very well with my boss. So after our Urban Renewal program was completed, I got a job with a large Remodeling Company. I loved what I was doing and excelled at it. Designing second story additions, extensions, whole house renovations, kitchens, baths, et al. In 1999, I decided it was time to go it alone and I started my first remodeling company. Unfortunately the housing collapse of 2008 forced me to concentrate on only doing design work. By 2015, I was dying to get my hands dirty again and do the construction. And, so, this is where I am now; AND LOVING IT...

Our company gives the standard contractors guarantee of 2 years. But most of the Cabinet companies we represent give a 10 year warranty. If we do anything that is not up to par, we will fix it regardless. This way I sleep well at night.

THe most rewarding thing about my job is building an addition, or doing an extension THAT MAINTAINS THE ARCHITECTURAL INTEGRITY OF THE HOUSE. When we leave the job, people should NOT be able to say "oh, they did an addition". It should look like the house was originally built that way. But my favorite reaction is when the homeowner walks into their new kitchen and say "WOW".

The basic principal in Architecture is "FORM FOLLOWS FUNCTION". In other words, decide how many rooms, what size, proper flow and function; then wrap a skin around it, THE FORM. The challenge of remodeling is that you already have the form, which at all cost should be maintained, AND THIS IS WHERE I EXCEL. If you do not get the WOW FACTOR, I have failed. If your home does not look and function better than it had, I have failed. AND I DO NOT FAIL....Try me. There's no cost nor obligation to see what I can do for you
