You only turn 50 once and Jeff captured it perfectly for me. I contacted Jeff 2 months before my party and we set the plan in motion . 2 weeks before my event the venue and time I originally booked had to changed and he was more than accommodating. I was able to move the party to the aquarium at Riverbanks Zoo. Jeff took my son and I around to a few areas and got some photos with just the animals and the tow of us. Time to party. Jeff worked the room and got pictures of all my guest. He also took the time to make sure I got some special pictures with my family. I will definitely be using his services again in the future. What’s the secret to taking a great photograph?
The most important factor in making great images is for the photographer to listen and ask questions of the client. That is the only way for the photographer to truly understand what the client needs and how he/she plans to use the images. Armed with that knowledge, I can apply my knowledge and experience to the particular situation in order to achieve the client's objectives.
There are definitely a lot of technical aspects of photography that play into making a great images (f-stops, shutter speed, ISO, depth of field, lighting, processing, etc), but none of that really matters much if you do not fully understand what the client needs.
What questions might you ask a client when starting a new project?
The more detail a client can give their potential photographers the better. Think of it as calling a car dealership and asking the question "however for a car?" Obviously, it depends on what you want and the more information you can give that car dealer the better chance you will get apples-to-apples quotes that actually fit what you are after.
Take a few moments to make sure that your potential photographers know your needs and budget and you will be rewarded with much more solid quotes. All the photography professionals I know try hard to provide great quotes that are on point and budget and the more detail we can get the better.
What do you love most about your job?
Photography is truly a wonderful career in that it allows me to meet an extremely wide variety of folks from all walks of life. I have photographed a Pulitzer Prize winning editorial cartoonist, an open heart surgery (from inside the operating room), countless musicians and dancers, small businesses and more.
I have had the opportunity to capture very special moments in the lives of my clients such as births, childhood milestones, engagements, weddings, birthdays, reunions, and virtually anything else you can imagine.
For businesses and magazines, I've done everything from lay in the mud to photograph a snake to photographing five-star restaurants to hanging out of a helicopter to capture a business from above and so, so much more.
With opportunities like that, what isn't to like???
What inspired you to start your own business?
Like many photographers, I used to love to shoot images of various things (nature, people, products, etc). I did it solely for fun and was told "you make some great photos" and that sort of thing. I ended up being asked to shoot something for a magazine and took on the assignment. Having done well on that one, I started getting more and more assignments, requests for portraits and more. One thing led to another and I found that I truly loved the work...and was pretty good at it. In 1998, I made it a business and well over a million images later...here we are!

Aside from the 20-years of experience and tons of outstanding reviews online...I truly love what I do and I work extremely hard to exceed my clients' expectations. I tell clients often that they should hire a photographer that they "click" with and that seems to "fit" with their organization. In my case, I fit in well in pretty much any scenario...whether I am on a construction site in a hardhat, shooting on someone's home for family or boudoir sessions, in a professional office for headshots or covering a high-end corporate event or wedding.
The bottom line is that I want your business and will work extremely hard to make sure you are thrilled that you chose me! After all, the goal is to have you book me again for other opportunities and the best way to make that happen is to make sure you love the initial booking!
Headshots
I bring the studio to you, with lighting, background, etc. We shoot "tethered" to a laptop so that you can see what I'm getting in real time and we can make any necessary adjustments as we go. At the end of the session, you make you selection(s) and you know for sure that we have what you want.
After the session, your selection(s) is fully retouched to the level you desire to include skin softening, wrinkle softening, teeth whitening, blemish removal, etc. You decide the level of retouching you would like and I will make it happen!
Portraits
Whether it is a 'just because' session for yourself, a couple's portrait or group and individual shots for the entire family reunion, I will work hard to fulfil your vision for the images. Call for details and let's preserve some great memories!
Engagements
Let us capture the excitement of the actual proposal (from a hidden vantage point), or schedule a session that focusses on just the two of you. You've made an amazing commitment to one another and took the first major step toward building your lives together as one. Popular session locations includes, homes, parks, beaches, gardens and more. This is a great session to provide you with images to post to social media and to use for your wedding announcements.
Bridal Sessions
Sorry guys, this one is all about the bride! The wedding day can be hectic, but a bridal session allows the bride to relax and to make some beautiful images of her in her wedding dress. It is also a great opportunity to 'try on' your hair, makeup and dress all at once before your big day! Often times, brides will have a nice wall portrait or canvas made from this shoot for Mom and Dad.
Wedding Coverage
It all comes down to the wedding day, doesn't it??? When your day arrives, we will be there with you to capture all the key moments, some you probably never thought of and lots of candid activity along the way. We literally have packages to fit any budget and vision for the wedding day, so give us 5-minutes to find out what all you'd like as far as coverage and deliverable product (albums, prints, USB, etc) and we will provide you with a quote immediately.
Boudoir Sessions
When you want to give your special someone a gift that is intimate and unique, let us schedule a boudoir session. We will talk over the looks and style you are after from the session, along with setting a location. At the session, we shoot 'tethered' to a laptop so you can have real-time feedback on the images and we can tweak any of the looks we are shooting before we move on to the next one. It is a great way to know that the look is what you had in mind. We can arrange for a hair and makeup artist as well if you would like, so just let us know. Most boudoir clients have us produce a book with their images to give as a gift to their special someone and we have never missed a book deadline. We provide boudoir services for individuals or couples.
Event Coverage
Your conference, grand opening or corporate event is important to your company...and it is to us as well! We can provide photo or video coverage of your event to include red carpet or step-and-repeat shots, speakers, awards presentations, dinners, entertainment, trade shows and so much more. Video testimonials and 'teasers' for the next conference or event are popular ways to use our time at one event to help you promote the next one. Regardless of whether you have a local event that needs 2-hrs of coverage or a week-long conference on the West Coast, rest assured that we've done something similar before and would love to do it for you too.
Product Photography
We have shot product photography since our very beginnings over 23-years ago and have photographed items ranging from small jewelry items to huge stainless steel commercial equipment for which we constructed an onsite shooting tent to handle reflections. Product photography always presents special challenges depending on the location and the item and we always find solutions to those so that you get the images you need to help you promote your business.
Aerial Photography
We shoot aerial photography from both fixed wing and rotor wing aircraft, as well as through the use of drones. Each is better for some specific situations and worse for others, so the platform is really dependent on the client's needs.
Thermal Imaging
We have a drone equipped with a FLIR thermal imaging camera that can provide temperature data in every pixel of the image. This radiometric data and color mapping overlays can help you identify hot or cool spots in a roof, wall or other surface. The information can point to areas of poor insulation or water infiltration and can be extremely useful in finding a problem, verifying work that has been done, inspecting the roof of a building or for insurance/legal purposes.
