Our Golden Doodle was trained by JR and he has boarded there several times since. JR is a fantastic trainer. He also made sure I understood I had to do my part as well that it was not just training our dog Ro but my wife and I had to learn what we need to do.
We got Ro at 13 months and he was not socialized. He did not like being around other dogs and he was really hard to walk. Now it is so much easier to take Ro to Memorial Park and have him around other dogs.

I took in my 2 year old Labrador Retriever with very little hope of breaking his bad habits. At first I was thinking it’s too good to be true, but after the first week of basic obedience, my lab had improved immensely. I never wanted to take my dog out on a walk because he would always pull on the leash and it was a hassle. We were at the end of our rope & didn’t know what to do. Our Sheltie seem to go crazy over the least little thing. After JR trained Ranger, and us, the difference is amazing. He obeys our commands and is much more pleasant to be around. We were able to enjoy time at a neighbor’s lemonade stand and he didn’t go nuts over the cars or the people or the bicycles. We started boarding our dog Winston, who is an English mastiff with JR. He took such good care of him and told us about his training school. He did a consult and showed us how and what he does. Just from the demonstration, we were sold. Winston was very stubborn, dominant, and hard to handle at times. JR has transformed him into an obedient dog. JR and Diane are amazing. We have a 9 month old female GSP, Willow Sage. We took her to JR when she was 5 months old for gun dog training. She started with obedience and knocked it out of the park. She transitioned beautifully into gun dog training. It’s not easy taking a dog that is bred for upland you be a retriever. But JR did. And he did it with passion. Every time I visited, Willow was so excited to see JR. Which made me feel good about leaving her there. I never felt like I had to worry. I knew she was safe. JR has a very clean facility. I can't recommend JR highly enough! We brought our two doodle puppies (one golden doodle and one labradoodle) to Green Timber for a 4-week stay. We visited them at least once per week so we could learn the training techniques as well. JR and his wife Diane are miracle workers! Both puppies came home with basic obedience under their belts and are MUCH more manageable around the house. We will take them back to JR often for boarding and further training without question. Great customer service! Our Lola had a really good time while she was in training. We visited her twice a week and every session we were treated as if we were the only customers there. It took me about 6 weeks of looking and interviewing to find J. R. and Green Timber Training and Kennels. Having had experience with a wonderful trainer in the Tulsa, Oklahoma area (with our dog, Shep), I knew what I wanted to see in the person who would help Murtaugh further his obedience and behavioral training. From the first conversation I had with J.R., I knew he was who I wanted to help Murtaugh.
I knew I wanted a person who was knowledgeable, adept in their training ability, patient, as well as proficient in seeing the unique peculiarities our dog needed to work on. I wanted someone who was gifted, and who had that "sixth sense" about a dog's particular bents. JR Totten is passionate about training dogs and pups. I live out of town and had only three days to work in training for my nine-month-old mixed breed pup, Annie. On leash, she would drag me. She was never willing to walk or stay on my command. When meeting anyone, she would jump on them to get attention. And icing on the cake, she hated riding in a car, and I had to lift my 30-pound pup to get her inside car.

JR worked with my schedule to get in six hours of private lessons during my short time in the area. I cannot begin to describe the positive change in Annie and myself. Through consistent, positive self-correction and praise, Annie and I have become very special companions. When we left JR at the final training, I led her to the car, and she jumped right in without being coerced in any way. She follows my lead without dragging me, walks, sits, and stays on my command. And she has stopped jumping on people when she meets them.

I never dreamed Annie would correct some of her bad habits. I thank JR for instilling confidence in her and in me. When I return to the area, I plan to make arrangements to finish JR's basic obedience program and move on to advanced training. I highly recommend contacting JR as soon as possible about training your dog. I now understand and believe in their slogan, "A trained dog is a confident dog!" More...

We brought the newest member of our family, a beautiful 5 month old Weimaraner named Sissy, home from Green Timber yesterday. There is really no way to describe the difference in the dog we left there and the dog we brought home. She was completely unmanageable when we dropped her off. Yesterday I took her for a long walk and I was stunned at how obedient she is. She obeyed virtually all my commands. We live inside the loop and there were many distractions but she never broke command. Our experience with JR was nothing but positive. From the initial conversation to the first night home gitters, he has been open and willing to do whatever was needed to ensure that Sissy got exactly what was appropriate for her training. We had a family emergency that necessitated leaving Sissy with JR longer than we planned , six weeks but honestly the difference that additional two weeks made was phenomenal. We couldn’t have planned it better. The kennels are bright and clean and it is clear that not only does JR have a deep understanding of dogs but he respects and loves them as well. I can not thank JR at GTTK enough he has completely changed my dog. Not to mention how attentive and knowledgeable he is. My 2 year old Golden Retriever, Jax, spent 4 weeks with him and I brought home a completely different dog ... one that actually listens. Before coming to the kennel Jax had no boundaries and pretty much ran the show. JR instilled confindince in Jax and myself and it shows. J.R. at Green Timbers Training and Kennels is AWESOME. My 9 months old German Shepherd spent 5 weeks there and became a different pup. She was shy, intimidated, and non socialized when I took her in. Was a poor eater, and would not even come to the front of her kennel. She eats all her food within 15 minutes of feeding her. I worked with J.R. and my pup, Ziva, once a week, and ever week there was such an improvement. He spent a lot of time with her, that by the third week, she was making eye contact with me, and willing to work with me, as she was with him. Her commands are awesome, even 65 yards away. My four month old English Setter was terrorizing me and anyone who got near her. Jumping biting , biting your clothes, with razor sharp puppy teeth. When on a lead she would drag you. I tried numerous ‘fixes’ to get her to stop without success. I found JR of Green Timber Training and let him take her for a month of beginning obedience training. I have a new dog!! She does not bite anymore! She hears and follows commands. She heels on lead. She sits when told to. She is calmer and a really well behaved 5 month old puppy. I couldn’t be happier with the results JR got. JR truely is good . I will get him to do further obedience with my dog, later this summer. All of his training is up beat and positive- I was afraid she would lose her happy go lucky disposition and be cowed at people - no she is the same happy godlucky dog , now armed with confidence and basic obedience commands. We cannot thank JR enough for the time, diligence, and skill he put into our dog, Rudy AND us! We adopted Rudy from a shelter when we was around 1yr old, and Rudy, although friendly, did not like rules or boundaries. He wants to lead not be led. We quickly realized that we needed help with obedience(boundaries in the home, pulling on the leash(we tried SO many collars and leashes before meeting JR), etc.)and we didn’t want to rely on treats (although Rudy loves those! lol). I thought we could just find the right product to “fix” Rudy but really it was a combination of Rudy needing help and us needing to learn how to better lead Rudy.

JR truly changed everything! He not only helped Rudy but he also helped us which is KEY. I learned that so much of having a functional/thriving home with a furry family member is not just the dog’s skill/personality but more importantly it’s whether the owners properly work with their dog. JR was committed to helping all of us. He is honest, patient, and a natural coach/teacher. Not to mention that he is SO gifted with dogs. It’s really incredible. From our first consultation he was picking up on body language that Rudy showed that we completely missed and would have never have known to focus on.

I keep mentioning how great JR is with people but it’s because that’s what made him different to us when choosing a trainer. There are dog trainers who can teach your dog a command, but then there is JR who not only teaches your dog but teaches you to ensure your dog AND family are in the best position to what you want. We recommend him to any and everyone we know!

In early October we hired JR to help us socialize and de-sensitize both of our dogs, Hope (a 1.5 yr old female German Shepard) and Skipper (a 7 yr old male Terrier & Chihuahua mix). Skipper had been living with us for the last 7 years and Hope had just joined us (from being in another home) in September 2016. In the beginning neither got along with each other, both very dominant and wanted to "fight" to the end. It was stressful and created heartache. Our goal was that our home would be the last "Forever Home for Hope!." We all know it takes a lot of love, patience and effort to make this happen. If it was not for JR, his genuine compassion for dogs, and learning techniques we would not have made the progress we have made to date. For this we are forever grateful for the training JR has done. He's been a blessing to not only Hope and Skipper, but to our entire family. JR is amazing with dogs! Keep up the AWESOME training and work you do every day to make a difference in a dogs life!
