What’s the secret to taking a great photograph?
You can google and YouTube this question and get a thousand technical responses. Everyone will mostly tell you lighting and composition. The real secret is having the subject(s) comfortable and engaged. My personal take on this question is getting the shot when the subjects aren't focused on the camera and I capture an intimate moment where the subject(s) are themselves. It's pure, natural and emotional.
What questions might you ask a client when starting a new project?
Obviously; who, what, where, when and type of event? Most importantly, what is your budget and how I can work with it? How did you find me? Have you shopped around to compare other photographers, if not, I will tell you, you should. Hiring the right photographer should be an informed decision. I will also ask personal questions to get to know you better, likes, dislikes, comfort level for the camera, etc. General questions like event and location for things like if it is appropriate to use a flash or not such as a church. I will also ask you if you know what your rights are when it comes to photography/photographer. What can be share, printed and sold. Most people assume they have total rights to the pictures, which is not the case.
What do you love most about your job?
Providing my customer the final product and seeing the joy, excitement and satisfaction with the final product.
What inspired you to start your own business?
Funny, I started photography to explore nature and relieve stress of my regular job. I started shooting events for family and friends and has evolved into a business. The last thing I wanted was for my escape from reality through photography to become another job. But I have found bringing smiles and joy to families more rewarding than I ever could imagine. My whole life, I have worked in public service, this is just another public service
Why should our clients choose you?
I encourage all my clients to shop around and choose a photographer that best suits their needs. Why should you choose me? After you shop around you will find most photographers will nickel and dime you with extra charges like a second shooter, lighting assistant, extra hours, etc. I almost always shoot with a second shooter at no charge. What ever event we agree to shoot is for the event, not a finite amount of time. I have no hidden costs or fees.
