What’s the secret to taking a great photograph?
Lighting and composition and the most important "secrets". We study and practice and learn new techniques for these all of the time. Practice and then more practice is the only way to build this skill set. When you combine it with an artistic eye and the right type of equipment and post-processing technology, the effect is magical!
What questions might you ask a client when starting a new project?
What do you like or what do you dislike about having your picture taken. What will the image be used for. If we know someone wants to print the image, we will adjust a lot of factors in our composition. Can you invest in more time/budget that will give us a greater opportunity to capture just the right image. We find it can take a lot of images using very slight adjustments to produce the perfect picture, and when we only have 1 hour to do it, it can be restricting.
What do you love most about your job?
Being part of people's most precious and joyous moments and giving them the gift of an image to go with it their memory.
What inspired you to start your own business?
I used to travel for work and spent a lot of time away from my wife and family. When COVID hit, I wanted to pursue a change and make my hobby my full-time career so that I could stay closer to home and be more involved in the every day things.
Why should our clients choose you?
Unlike some of the larger photography studios, we don't sub-contract out our work. We are a husband/wife team, so having two photographers allows us to capture different events at the same time and cover for any potential missed shot. We are laid back, fun people and we can usually turn a photo session into an event that everyone enjoys (even the men in the family).
Can you provide your services online or remotely? If so, please add details.
We can meet virtually to consult with our clients. If you have a product photography request, this can be done with very little face to face interaction, but generally, our photo sessions are in person.
What changes have you made to keep your customers safe from Covid-19?
We always wear face masks at our sessions. If we are doing a session in our studio, we clean the chairs/stools/props between clients. If we are working with newborns, children or the elderly, we will wear plastic gloves.
Wedding Photography
In the past year, small weddings have been very popular. We can customize our package to meet your needs and depending on the number of hours needed, we can focus more on the ceremony and couples portrait, or we can offer coverage of all the important images including Getting Ready, First Look, Ceremony, formal Bridal Party and Parents/Relatives, Reception, First Dance, Toasts, Cake Cutting & bouquet toss.
Family Portrait Photography
We offer family portrait sessions that help preserve this unique moment in time. We know first hand that kids will only be little for a short time, teenagers have their sights set on leaving home, and the time you have left with parents and elders should be cherished and recorded to build their lasting legacy. Focal Point Pics offers both on-location (beach, parks, riverfront) and in-studio family portrait sessions. We also provide vacation portraits if you are visiting Florida’s first coast and would like to preserve the memory of your family vacation.
Professional Headshot
Professional headshots demonstrate that you have made an investment in yourself and your career. It is a powerful element in creating your own personal brand and communicates to your clients, colleagues, and potential employer what type of person you are and what they can come to expect from you. At Focal Point Pics, we go through an extensive process to get your headshot exactly right. We will work with you ahead of the shoot to choose the right outfit, accessories, and hairstyle; or we can provide a stylist for hair and makeup as part of the session. Focal Point Pics also offers corporate headshot events where we come to your location to photograph executives, award winners or event attendees.
Engagement Photography
Are you thinking of popping the question and want the moment captured forever? We can help you plan and coordinate the details that will ensure a magical moment. Some of our clients tell their soon to be fiancé that they have arranged for a photoshoot, then surprise them with the real reason. Other clients prefer to be more discreet and have us planted nearby, waiting for the signal. Many couples also want their privacy during the proposal; our role is to wait in the wings and then recreate the moment once the couple has regained their composure and touched up their mascara!
