Easy to understand, valuable ideas on how to take care of family members and pets. Jen is always inspiring.

I have recently completed my FPPE Educator's course and am so excited to start presenting the lectures. Jennifer Dawson Shryock and Bethany Cunningham are wonderful teachers and learning from them was a privilege. They come at the material from such an open mind and really change the conversation from judgemental to empowering. I feel very supported and prepared to venture out and share this information with the public. They went above and beyond to ensure that students had ample opportunity to really understand what was being taught. I would 100% recommend this course to any dog trainer/behaviorist/vet. More...

Jen at Family Paws was an amazing support and source of education during my family’s recent struggles with our newly adopted dog. We adopted a cockapoo rescue who was timid, loving, and calm. He never showed signs of aggression with people or other animals. In the two month period we had him, he snapped at my 5-year old daughter’s face 4 times, leaving her with scratches. This happened without warning, during periods of calm, and usually in response to her approaching him 2-3 times in a row. I was under a lot of pressure from friends and family to “hang in there” and “give him time to adjust.” I consulted Behaviorists who referred me to Family Paws. Jen talked me through this situation for an extended period of time, reviewed video of the incident, sent me emails and then followed up with me via text to see how we were doing. What I liked most was that Jen did not blame me for the situation in any way and gave me her professional opinion that this dog did not belong in a home with small children. Given the social pressures, I was not initially sure that rehoming the dog was the best idea. Confidently, and caring first and foremost for the safety of my child, Jen said that although she was a dog lover, she would NOT have this dog around her children. That was enough for me to rehome him. I am positive that I received the best advice and support from Jen. Her knowledge and years of experience are unmatched. I can’t thank her enough More...

This organization is amazing. Jennifer has a practical, yet unparalleled, way of educating about how dogs and families can live their best lives together. As a veterinarian and a behavior resident, completing the Family Paws certification absolutely transformed my knowledge base and my skills in helping parents of babies and young children navigate these so very important years. This is one of the best and most helpful courses and certifications I have undertaken during my residency. Thank you, Jennifer and Family Paws!! We have a three week old newborn and a 1.5 yr old dog. I anticipated the adjustment we would face with a new baby, but I did not consider how our dog would handle it. With help from Jen, using the Family Paws techniques, I have already seen a positive change in our puppy's behavior toward the baby in just the short time since I contacted them! The FPE information has helped me identify "concerning" body language so I can respond accordingly. Dogs are not humans and do not reason the way we do, so it's important to know what behaviors like tail wagging, licking, yawning actually mean for a dog. I would have never learned that had I not stumbled across the Family Paws organization after searching for help. If you have children and dogs in your home (even if you don't think you've seen "questionable" signs), it would be a very wise choice for you to choose Family Paws to help! I am truly so grateful I did! It has been so valuable to our family. More...

Jen has been an incredible resource as we faced some struggles resulting from our geriatric pit bull's reaction to the addition of our newborn daughter. We had some hard decisions to make, and Jen's expertise and insight guided us through the process. I honestly don't know what we would have done without her help. I am so grateful we were able to make decisions we felt confident about, as she helped us outline and complete our due diligence. More...

Thank you Jen for an awesome webinar on Toddlers and Dogs. I am a mom of an 8 month old on the move, and two fur babies (Risa a 2 year old lab shepherd mix and Izze a 6 year old dilute torti). I am also a veterinarian who was blessed with pets who have taught me so much about behavior and pushed me to seek help from trainers. Jen has great information to help you, your human babies , and your fur babies learn to live together safely. More...

Jen has been incredibly helpful to my wife and me. We recently added a newborn daughter to a house in which our first family member, an anxious Lakeland Terrier, needs her quiet space. Jen responded immediately and talked us through several behaviour modification strategies, giving us an incredible amount of attention. She was able to put us in touch with a local trainer (a Family Paws partner), and we are implementing a multi-pronged behaviour modification program that has been more successful, so far, than we had thought possible. We know it will be a work in progress, through the many transition periods of our infant's life, but it's great to know that Jen has our back and is available if and when we need to strategize new plans to create a household with a happy terrier, happy baby, and maybe even happy parents! Jen has great insights, is highly knowledgeable and approachable, and is a great resource. More...

I love this organization and all the information and support that are available both to clients and to those of us who are presenters. I've been presenting Dogs & Storks and Dogs & Toddlers for a couple of years now, and I use it to inform my approach to in-home clients as well. There is so much information packed into each 90 minute presentation that not only helps people prepare, in some cases it gives them a whole new perspective on, or approach with, their dog. The most common comments I hear afterward are usually along the lines of, "Oh! I never would have thought of that! That makes so much sense." The most gratifying moments for me are those light bulb moments when people realize there is actually a solution to some of the issues they've always had with their dog but never really knew how to address - nor did they care as much, but everything's changed now that baby's on the way or toddlers are on their way (and everyone's life is upside down!). I actually decided to make educating families my primary focus after learning about these programs and realizing how powerfully they could positively impact people's lives. Subsequent interactions with clients have confirmed how helpful this information truly is. No looking back now! More...
