Q&As

I started in photography as a hobby when I was about 20 and it has always been a wonderful creative experience for me. There has also always been a good deal of science behind the creative process which I have greatly enjoyed as well. As a result I've learned through much experience that the "auto" mode has very limited applications. Instead I prefer to maintain as much control over the process as possible.

I can serve my clients as individuals as each situation requires.

My clients are in charge. I'll certainly offer my professional experience and advice but in the end each client gets the final word on how they want their photos to look.

Services

In need of studio quality head shots of your staff for company bios, your web site, or social media?  I can make the project quick and painless.  Once set up at your location (usually about 30 minutes), I average about 10 minutes per person for both photography and proof selection from my laptop but of course I will spend as much time as is needed with each individual.  This insures that everyone is happy with their photos the first time and that their won't be any need for retakes.  If you have a large number of staff needing photos in a limited amount of time, I can just shoot the photos (10-12 each on average) and provide digital proofs for selection at a later time.
Included for each person is full professional individual retouching. This is done one at a time and specifically for each face. (I like to say that I’ll make everyone look 5 to 10 years younger) Each photo will be cropped and sized to your specifications and sent to you via e-mail or other file transfer method. The default size is 4 x 5 inches at 300 ppi as this size works great for most print needs and is still small enough to easily send around.
I also like to do environmental (workstation) portraits as well as group photos at your office.
The fee for head shots is $60.00 each and includes unlimited usage.  Everything else is at $120/hour.  There is a $180 per visit minimum. Please call or e-mail me for an estimate.

As anyone involved in residential remodeling knows, the look of any room will change throughout the day so picking the right time of day to photograph your project is a key first step.  Going along with that is the direction of any windows in the space.  While some spaces can definitely benefit from direct sunlight spilling into the room, many do not. If you want to use the sun in your space, then it will be important to note the time of day when it looks just right.
For those spaces that look best in indirect light, it’s usually best to pick a time when direct sunlight won’t be an issue. In other words, if the kitchen sink window faces west, it’s probably best to photograph that space in the morning.
I shoot directly into my laptop so you can see each image immediately on a large screen. This helps greatly when it comes to fine tuning the exact camera placement as well as the final positioning of the various staging elements. This way you can approve each photo as we go and have no doubts that you are getting exactly what you want.
My photography style is to preserve your design style. Usually lighting is part of the design of the room so any additional lighting that’s necessary should blend imperceptibly with the lighting scheme you’ve designed into it. Each photo should look just the same as when you are standing in the room.
Commercial spaces such as business lobbies, offices, work spaces, break rooms, etc are very similar to photograph except that they generally only need minor decluttering instead of a full staging treatment. They also generally require less supplemental lighting on my part as workspace lighting is usually bright and very consistent. As such commercial spaces tend to take less time to photograph.
I normally bill by the hour for the location time (upon arrival) and for the image processing time but let me know if you need a different arrangement. Included is unlimited usage of your image files (you don’t have to pay me again if a magazine wants to publish your project) and you can have them in any format or size you need. I’m also happy to come out to scout your location.

From 1985 until about 2002, most of my exterior architecture photography was done with a 4x5 view camera and transparency film.  Today, with digital capture, I can produce perspective corrected, high resolution photos much more efficiently than I used to using large format equipment.  That means more views at less cost.
A decade and a half worth of Photoshop experience also gives me the ability to clean up parking lots and sidewalks, remove signs and parking stripes, repair grass, and enhance the color of blue skies, etc.

I’m happy to scout your location but often I can get you what you want in one trip and turn them around quickly.
Let me show you how easy this can be.
