Planning! The job of a great photographer is the ability to interpret concepts and ideas, work out logistics and scheduling and bring them to life through photos.
What questions might you ask a client when starting a new project?
There are several pieces of information a photographer will need in order to bring a clients vision to life.
1. What kind of photos are you looking to create?
2. How will the images be used? Retail? Personal? Editorial? Documentary?
3. What is your time frame for shooting the photos? Specific date?
4. How many different images are you looking to capture?
5. Where will the shoot take place? Multiple locations? Multiple dates?
What do you love most about your job?
Being creative. Even after 30 years of shooting I still get excited about executing a plan that ends in an exciting image that speaks a thousand words. Every year I give myself several "Self-Inflicted" projects. These are projects that help me develop conceptual skills, logistical skills, technical skills and creative skills. The photography industry is constantly changing making it an exciting job filled with new challenges every day.
