This was our first time here and we had a great time. The Music is amazing and the server was very friendly. My only concern here is the WAIT time for food/appetizers. Also they were out of conch fritters and grouper fish. It's not crowded at first but more people begin to come after 8. They have a huge TV and we watched the SEC championship here. The food was excellent!This is a nice, casual establishment with ample seating located in a shopping plaza. It looks as if they do quite a bit of entertainment on certain nights so, if you don't want the "party" atmosphere, I would suggest dining early, like 5pm.  I did have a Groupon for the visit. I'm not sure what was going on since 1) you MUST have a reservation; and 2) the waitstaff had to verify it before we could order.  Any place else that I've been with a Groupon just applied it to the check. Anyhow, the food was freshly prepared and served in a timely manner consistent with freshly prepared food.  Waitstaff was very friendly and accommodating and portions were ample too! I had the Curried Seafood entree. It was served in a coconut shell with fish, shrimp, and calamari with a side of rice. My hubby had the Angus burger - huge!  We also had an appetizer of Calamari. The coating was light and crispy but a tad on the salty side. I've noticed in other reviews complaints about the Groupon. For the dinner for two, you get two cocktail drinks, an appetizer, and two entrees for up to $71. This is how it works: the drinks are up to a $10 value each. Anything over that amount you pay; appetizer is up to a $10 value (you pay the difference if over $10); and entrees are up to a $21 value per entree (again, you pay the difference if over $21). If you choose something cheaper than $21, you do not get the use the remaining value on anything else. This is per person.  As required by Groupon, a gratuity is added in. Their check shows it as a "service charge" and they will have an additional line for tip. You can add an additional tip if you choose but the service charge is the gratuity. More...

Visiting out of town and was recommended to try this spot out with family for a birthday celebration. We went around 8 o'clock, it wasn't too crowded but was a little disappointed to hear that they no longer did live music. Most of our party ordered cocktails and entrées from the menu. this place has been opened for a while, I've eaten here both times I had a really good experience.  Each time I went around 7:30pm on a weekday and the weekend, reservations are excepted.  They have different things going on at different times doing the weeks so check the website. I ordered salmon, it comes with sweet potato hash and spinach.  Everything was good, the salmon was medium size and the sweet potatoes was cooked just right.  My date had the grouper sandwich, which she enjoyed.  At the time they had a groupon offering which included an appetizer, the waitress was helpful and advised the jerk nachos as the one of the more popular items and she one correct.  I was surprised how they created it with cheese sauce, grilled jerk chicken and black beans it was good and not to spicy like some jerk can be. The food was pretty good, especially the calamari appetizer. The drinks from the bar weren't too bad either, although one of the prices was misquoted. My only real complaint was the desserts. We tried the bread pudding and the sweet potato "cheesecake", which was really not cheesecake at all, more like a carrot cake or a spice cake with cream cheese icing. Very good local neighborhood restaurant and bar with a modern menu and good daily food and drink specials. The Foid is presented well and taste great. It's not a place you go to "eat cheap" but the food and drinks are worth it - No complaints because of  the value.  They have full dinner options or good appetizers. On Fridays they have live music. $10 to get in after 8pm, no cover charge if you get there before 8. They have ample free parking and patio seating. The bar area is small, with only 8 or 9 chairs and  a community table, that for me sitting alone, felt a little awkward, being away from the bar - at the big community table alone. They also have seating at a table that runs alongside the wall, which I found a little less awkward, but not conducive for watching the entertainment unless you sit sideways.The wait staff is friendly and served meals in a timely fashion. I'm adding this one to my list of favorites. I had my birthday gathering here on a Friday night just for the jazz band and they didn't disappoint.  I had a party of 13 (originally 15, you know how that goes). CalaBar reserves a max of 15, a reduced menu (to assure faster meal service), a cake fee and 18% automatic gratuity/service fee. We were seated on the back wall with the benches which was perfect because the venue isn't very big. The food was great, mixed drinks were good, and the band was perfect. And the cake delivery was amazing!Now the bad/not so good. The food service timing wasn't consistent. With the size of the party, orders were put in here and there but entree orders would come out before simple appetizers. We were assigned one waiter, he was trying to hustle and was pretty good until some orders were put in or made wrong and he'd get frustrated......and didn't hold back on showing it --- very unprofessional and almost like a pouting child. He'd also take an order or two from the table, leave to enter it, and disappear into the kitchen...... what about the other orders All in all, he truly attempted to address every concern, order request, change request, food correction and be a great waiter.
