What’s the secret to taking a great photograph?
I believe that a great photograph will capture a viewers attention and convey a message in an aesthetically pleasing manner.
Sometimes, it's simply being visually aware of your surroundings, close, medium and distant, then being quick with the camera to capture it.
It's knowing your camera and other equipment so well that you don't have to think about how to operate it when the shot is happening now.
Other times, it's the utmost patience to wait for just the right combination of light and subject matter to unfurl for you.
It may be spending time thinking about what I and/or my client is trying to communicate with the picture, and then spending more time putting objects in that will enhance the image, or moving things out of the frame that might be distracting.
Or it could be simply chatting with a portrait subject so they relax and forget about the camera.
What questions might you ask a client when starting a new project?
For creating successful commercial photographs, it's import to me that I work closely with the client from the beginning, creating a dialogue so that I fully understand their desired outcome. Each area of photography - architectural, corporate location, portraiture, or studio product, has it's own set of criteria.
I encourage anyone hiring a photographer to think about the content of the photographs, what message they want to convey, who will be viewing them, where and in what mediums they will be displayed.
What do you love most about your job?
Creating something that will be seen and appreciated by others.
Getting out and about, being in interesting places and seeing things that I might not if were in an office all day, every day.
What inspired you to start your own business?
The desire to control my own destiny and to make a good living doing something that I truly love.
Why should our clients choose you?
I'm easy going and fun to collaborate with, yet I'll work hard and do what's necessary to create technically excellent and aesthetically pleasing photographs that more than satisfy my clients needs. While I have years of experience, technical skills and a good eye, my pricing is reasonable. I'm a good value.
