1. Â Food - Hot Mess is absolutely fantastic sandwich. I'm even someone who traditionally wants extra mayo on a sandwich but it simply isn't needed as the flavor that comes from this thing exactly as it's intended is something I don't mess with. Â Fries, Mac and greens are all great... Â Best fried Oreos ever had2. Â Service has always been friendly but line never seems to move as fast you feel it should.. Â Also with food being so good you have to expect crowd but seating can get tricky especially if people sit and chat after their done..3. Â Drinks - only comment here is they need to get bigger cups for a place that clearly serves spicy/saltier foods... Â Cup that comes even with a soft drink is easily equivalent of a "small" and I definitely get up 2 more times mid-meal which again isn't fun especially if is crowded...All that said - I still don't hesitate to put their food at the top of the hot chic food chain. I ordered through DoorDash, so I can't speak to the atmosphere and customer service of this establishment, but the food was truly delicious. I try to stick to being conservative when I'm at a restaurant food the first time, so I ordered the original whiting sandwich with fries. I loved the size of the pieces of fish that you receive! Bad: They were busy and could not handle the rush. Stated 25 minutes and probably took an hour. We were short food items and sauces. No drink carriers. Orders were being finished and sat on counter but no names were being called. Frustrating!Good: The Food! Chicken was great with good heat. Catfish was also good. Mac and cheese was okay. Big Shake's is the best hot chicken in Tennessee. I have tried many of the menu items, but I usually get the chicken and waffles. It is perfect for getting some substance in the stomach before a night of drinking, or even as a great way to knock out the shakes on the day after. Believe it or not, this food is great even if you haven't been drinking aggressively. I have gone to Big Shake's many times and will continue to do so. I must say I love hot chicken and crave the burn so when I found out you have to sign a waiver to try their hottest sauce I was all aboard. I was visiting Chattanooga and drove the extra two hours to try it. Definitely the hottest chicken I've ever had. I'm a newbie to the hot chicken world: this was my first genuine experience... and it was amazing. I'm a fan. The perfectly crispy fried chicken that's juicy and bursting with spicy flavor, it was like a whole new world opened to me. I didn't know it could get better than normal fried chicken, but it can! Usually I put hot sauce on my normal chicken, but that's a joke compared to this. And their fries: yum! I loved the seasoning. If only I lived closer to this establishment!! One of the best hot chickens in Nashville! They definitely know what they are doing and it shows. I always order the mild "cry baby" because I'm a wimp but my husband and dad have tried the "stop drop and roll" spice level and the "rambo" spice level and loved them both. I always get chicken and waffles - the waffle is fresh and amazing with the syrup and the chicken. The others got the regular hot chicken with mac and cheese and cole slaw. Big Shakes - named for after it's owner, and packed with flavor and juicy goodness. The hot chicken here is the best I've had in Nashville - it will always be my go-to place. Each day/night my wife and I have explored one restaurant around us that’s a local experience. Tonight was this Big Shake’s Hot Chicken and boy, am I glad we did. I went 20 min to close and all our food was made to order and they happily served us. The chicken was by far some of the best chicken I have ever tasted and their jalapeño cornbread was superb. We found this place by accident since it's by the Kroger.....and it did not disappoint. The hot chicken is good but the catfish is amazing! We even brought our friends a few days later and they loved it just as much! I've been ruined for any other catfish.....the standard has been set high.
