A fantastic introductory flight experience with Darryl today. He is very nice, and the whole flight with him is very entertaining and informative. On the ground, as he prepared the aircraft for flight, he'd explain what he's doing along in a brief manner, so we'd feel very much involved during the process. And he'd keep things simple and easy to understand, so things stayed interesting, and we wouldn't feel overwhelming. While in the air, I was really surprised by the amount of actual flying he allowed me to do. It WAS beyond what I expected. But, I have to say that although I was nervous about it at first, I had a GREAT time! And more importantly, I actually learnt a lot about aircraft handling in this very first class. And last but not least, the scenic tour was great. The weather was wonderful, and Half Moon Bay looked just marvelous.I will definitely recommend Darryl if you are planning on taking an introductory flight like I did today. You won't regret it. It was well worth it. And finally, I know I've probably said it a lot today already, but once again, thank you, Darryl.Li More...

Absolutely amazing time with Darryl! We weren't sure what to expect going into it, and he completely exceeded our expectations. Given our lack of flying experience prior to the trip, we fully expected to learn mostly by watching our first time. On the contrary, Darryl encouraged us to learn by doing, while he talked us through it. He is a very knowledgeable guy and we felt very comfortable in everything he instructed us to do. We took the tour option over San Francisco Bay, and I honestly wouldn't do it any other way, that view was incredible. Will be flying again! Thanks Darryl! More...

I took an introductory flying lesson with darryl on a very basic plane with basic avionics as I wanted to have a feel of flying without any modern equipment support. It was a mind blowing experience and darryl made it all easy for me to fly. 50 mins of explaining the physics of the plane and the controls and the next one hour of flight. He gave me the entire control of the flight since the takeoff and the climb. It was a very good experience and I would recommend anyone to take his introductory course. He was kind enough to allow my friend to tag in and sit at the back of the plane More...

Had a great Intro Lesson with Darryl! Booked the lesson on a C172s with a G1000 Panel. The lesson started with a comparison of the G1000 panel and a standard analog panel, then a physical inspection of the plane and instruments. After the 50 minute ground instruction we were on our way. After take off, I was able to fly the plane the entire time until we got back to the airport where Darryl took over and landed the plane. We flew up to San Francisco, circled the bay, over the Golden Gate Bridge, and back to the airport along the coast. It was a wonderful experience and I felt safe the entire flight. Thanks again Darryl. More...

I took my husband for a flying lesson on his b'day as a suprise & boy did he love it ! Darryl is a fantastic person to work with. He goes out of his way to explain the plane's engineering details & he is very patient while teaching you how to operate the plane. We had a great experience overall & I would highly recommend Darryl to anyone who is interested to take up flying lessons. More...

Darryl over exceeded our expectations. I bought the flight intro as a birthday surprise gift. It was great that I got to go up in the plane as well. He took his time with us explaining the different components and controls in the plane and then guided Rich while we were in flight. He navigated us over the ocean with gorgeous views and he continued to check on me in the back to make sure I was included. I would definitely recommend Daryll for intro and even continued flight lessons More...

Highly professional, extremely knowledgeable and incredibly kind are just a few of the many positive ways I would use to describe my experience with Captain Darryl Kalthof. My husband is absolutely in love with aviation, so for Christmas 2015 I decided to surprise him with this very unique gift of flight. From start to finish, Captain Kalthof was very responsive and reassured all my concerns. We scheduled to fly on a day where the forecast predicted rain, so I called Captain Kalthof to reschedule. However, through his calm demeanor and expertise, he convinced me that the weather would be in our favor and of course he was absolutely right. There was little to no air traffic, we had the entire Palo Alto airspace to ourselves, and at the exact moment we took off it was as though heaven itself had parted the clouds so we could fly rain free, I am exaggerating of course because this was all Captain Kalthof who continually checked his elite weather source for when the clouds would be passing. With 20+ years of experience and over 40,000 flying hours you are in excellent hands when you are learning how to fly with Captain Darryl Kalthof, I highly recommend his over the top service! As for my husband, he was overjoyed with the experience and we now have a wonderful memory that will last us a lifetime. More...

I choose Darryl as my CFI and used him through my Private Pilot License (PPL). Darryl is a career flight instructor and knows his stuff inside and out. It took me about 6 months to get my license and I would fly with Darryl an average of twice a week. I am not a particularly good student and am a difficult "customer" - Darryl was patient with me and very encouraging. I coach wrestling and I see that Darryl has the qualities of a great coach - he will honey drip you when you do well - and immediately point out where you messed up. In fact, he builds to his curriculum mini-tests that you are almost guaranteed to mess up, as instructional opportunities. What I found particular about Darryl is his expert risk assessment ability. While training Darryl clearly knows where his students are and lets his students go right up to the "line" when practicing their skills. I found the ability for me to use my judgement in taking calculated risks around weather, airports, and routes was essential in my ability to operate under my own license. I found that while Darryl is perhaps one of the most expensive flight instructor in the area, I feel that it was worth it. He is dedicated to his student's success, is very organized, and flexible. I felt pushed the right amount and was never uncomfortable. I learned quickly with Darryl and felt I was well prepared for my PPL checkride. More...
