Absolutely love The Pet Spa at Barkley Square.  The staff is great, the facility is clean, and our wirehaired pointing Griffon, Fiona, is pampered every time we take her there.  Her coat requires special attention and they never disappoint us when they do her grooming.  It's nice, too, that we can just pop in without an appointment to have her nails dremelled.  Parking in the building parking lot is sometimes tight, but there are lots of spots available on surrounding streets. We've been going to Barkley Square for about three years now and have always had great experiences! When we first got our pup we tried out a chain store but didn't like how long it took for his groom, the fact that he had to be crated, and his cuts were never the best (sometimes patchy and most of the time he came out looking like a bobble head). Barkley was close to our apartment and after going to one of their Yappy Hour's at Mad Fox we fell in love with their staff and their process - no crating, quicker groom times, an all-inclusive price, and a custom style (finally no more bobble head!). Our pup also loved their homemade treats which was a bonus.He's come out looking like a stud (with a fantastic cut and a cute bowtie or bandana) at every appointment since and we couldn't be more grateful. He usually gets the Spa Red Carpet service and oftentimes we throw in ear plucking or dremel as well. He's not the easiest to groom (I give him touch-ups at home between his appointments so I know he's a handful) and he hates having his legs brushed, cut, or shaved so I'm always amazed at not only how great his legs and paws look but what a great mood he's in after a grooming!Thank you all so much for taking such great care of our baby! I have been taking our Shiba Inu to these wonderful folks since we adopted him last summer.  Being a rescue from a neglectful previous owner, my Shiba is nervous around new people and places.  Before his first grooming session Brian took the time to soothe my dog's nerves and calm him down.  I paid for s full service groom and was happy I did. Nails neatly trimmed, ears and teeth cleaned and a nice bath without the excess of perfume that many groomers use.  In fact, I am so happy with Barkley square that when we inherited a second Shiba from our daughter I bring him in as well! The groomers did an amazing job helping our 21 year old cat Cliff feel better. They removed his matted fur, brushed, and conditioned him. He hated every second but they were kind and patient. Weeks later he is still feeling and looking good! I highly recommend Barkley Square. More...

When we travel I count on Barkley Square to look after my cat.  Michelle does a wonderful job of sending photos and texts to let me know that all is well.  She arrives at the agreed upon time.  I am confident that my buddy is well cared for and gets some attention while we are away.  Go to their web page and order a 10 or 20-day package for a discounted daily rate. My dog is 10 and we've lived in 4 different cities in his life, so we've tried a lot of different groomers! Barkley Square has quickly become our absolute favorite. They are one of the only groomers who has actually taken the time to brush out mats on my Maltese, instead of just shaving him down. My (very particular and nervous) little guy is so comfortable there, and they always give him personal attention. They offer cage free service! So many times we've come to pick him up and he is sitting in an employee's lap while they're working or playing in the office. They make scheduling a breeze online, have tons of availability, and are FAST! He's usually done within an hour and a half and always looks great. Plus they offer great add-ons like Dremel for his nails and toothbrushing! They may be a little on the pricy end, but they are worth every penny for the peace of mind and above and beyond service they give! More...

They are amazing! When I first moved to the area I called several dog groomers trying to find the right one for my rescue dog Lady (very timid and easily scared). The fact that they don't cage dogs before or after grooming is a huge plus for me. An added bonus is that they don't cage dry, and if they need to use a blow dryer they have the cutest dog ear covers!Lady is not scared of being groomed by them and is always happy with them, Lady is so comfortable that she now accepts treats from the groomers!(She does not even accept treats from my parents!)Princeton is a new addition to our family and he unfortunately has some patches on his skin that no longer grows hair. They did such an amazing job in grooming him, you can't even tell he has those patches. He looks like a lovely teddy bear now and rocking the bandana they put on him.Needles to say I love them! So glad I found this place! My Rosie was in desperate need of a groom! She’s a senior cocker spaniel and the stylists/groomers did an excellent job. They even gave her the Mohawk I requested lol . When I picked her up, she was calmly waiting in the office - stress free. I love that she wasn’t crammed in a crate somewhere. Also, she didn’t smell AT ALL. When I would pick her up from her previous groomer, she had what I called that “grooming/wet dog” odor. When I picked her up from The Pet Spa, she smelled great, looked great, and was happy. I took two dogs to be groomed there yesterday and neither one was on their best behavior, but everyone at Barkley Square was so patient and nice to us. I was mortified to be the lady with "those dogs" but I was....and the fact that everyone was so kind about it makes me confident we will be returning in the future. Brought our 2 female corgis here on Wednesday. Georgie and Pepper needed a good scrubbing and a deshedding session, for sure. They were able to take both dogs for 60-90 mins and in the end, the girls looked very happy and were beautiful. Nicely groomed and no yucky dog breath (THANK YOU)! They also got a cherry-blossom themed picture TOGETHER AND SMILING - which is a testament to the talent of the staff.I really appreciate that the animals are not caged and walk freely around the shop. I found Barkley Square through a Pet Photos with Santa event (which melted my heart!) and after seeing how kind the staff is and how well they work with dogs, I reached out to them when I lost my dog's quick and didn't want to hurt her when clipping her nails. I called mostly asking if it was possible to "fix" this, and I was blown away when I was told it was possible and they could see us the same day. Their recommendation would be to clip what was possible, then go behind and use a dremel on her nails. I was nervous and my dog was nervous because it was her first experience going to a pet salon, but the staff allowed me to go back with her to keep her calm while they groomed her. I was so happy with their service, I brought my other dog (a 100lb lab mix) the next day!They are located in Falls Church, and while there is parking surrounding the building, it is sometimes easier to park in front of Cherry Hill Park and walk across the street.It's completely apparent that the staff cares about the pets that come in and what they do. After discovering The Pet Spa At Barkley Square through Homeward Trails, I decided to give them a try. Maximus is a shih tzu mix, so he has hair not fur which is a very specialized type of grooming. Over the years I have struggled to find a really good and consistent groomer that listened to everything I needed for him. Maximus is also not always extremely tolerant when being overly handled and groomed. Setting up an appointment online was super easy. When I walked into the spa, Brian and Kristina immediately greeted me, knew who I was and knew I was a first time customer. Brian and Kristina spent the next 30 minutes discussing how I wanted Maximus groomed, if he had any allergies, how his temperament is when being handled and if I knew his background since he’s a rescue. From the questions, I could tell they were 100% focused on making sure Maximus was relaxed and enjoyed his spa day. My other observation was that since they are appointment only, there are not a lot of dogs at the spa and the environment was quiet and calming. Melissa did his grooming super quickly and he looks great. Melissa did everything I asked and even left his ears and tail length a little longer till I came to pick him up to make sure she did not trim them too short (but they were the perfect length ). When I came to pick up Maximus, he was walking around the office in a gated area (no crates) and he barely noticed I was back because he was getting so much attention from the groomers. Overall, I was extremely impressed how they took care of Maximus. They treated him as though he was their own. Before I departed they had me double check Maximus to make sure everything was trimmed the way I wanted, so they could make the adjustment right there. Maximus didn’t just have one groomer but a team of groomers making him comfortable. I can not express how impressed I was with our experience. Maximus is getting older and is in need of a quieter and more relaxing experience when being groomed. The Pet Spa At Barkley Square hit every mark! We will definitely be back! We first used the Pet Spa when we had a smelly emergency with our rescued Shiba.  As dogs love to do, he had rolled in something nasty and we needed help getting him clean.  Lucky for us, the Pet Spa was open on Sunday and they had an available appointment.  I was so impressed with the groomers and the facility that I had them give our guy the full spa treatment.  Very glad I did!  Our Shiba has never looked or smelled better and, with his nails neatly trimmed, ears and teeth shiny white, he even seems to be happier! I've taken my Samoyed to Kristina for almost the entire 5-1/2 years I've had him.  He is very fluffy with long hair, so washing, brushing, and drying is a big chore. ..which is why I stopped doing it shortly after he grew up.  Jack (the dog) absolutely loves going to Barkley.  When he recognizes what street I've turned down, he plants his legs and drags me to their door.  Given how long his sessions are, this fact alone says wonders about everyone there.  Jack treats bath time, brush time, nail time as play time, which can be problematic with an energetic 65+-lb. bundle of energy.  He comes out happy and looking absolutely fantastic!I recommend Kristina and her staff without reservations.  They're great with the dogs, do fantastic work, and are fun to talk with as you drop off and pick up. Cutting my cat's claws is always a painful experience for everyone involved.  Blood, sweat, and tears.  Usually when she's at the vet we get them to do it; she's on her best behavior ( read: paralyzed with fear) and they get it done super fast.  It's nothing like the oven mitt, cat in a towel burrito, 2 man team endeavor it is when we try at home.  Anyhow!She didn't have a vet appointment coming up and her nails were a teensy bit out of control, so I decided to take the Pet Spa up on their billboard offer and have her nails trimmed for $10.  They were able to take her right away.  Their 2 employee team was efficient and clearly practiced.  One took her out of her carrier and laid her down on her side while the other made quick work of her nails.  The whole ordeal took 4 minutes tops, including parking and payment.  We got home and Pickles in no longer snagging in the living room carpet.  Lovely work. Also, when the tech was holding her down, he was telling her what a good girl she was (dubious but appreciated) and cooed at her soothingly until the traumatic ordeal was over.  Was she soothed?  Probably not but it melted my heart and made me like them a lot.It's a smaller place but honestly I prefer that to the huge factory setting at Petsmart.  Parking is a little hard to find, and DO NOT PARK IN THE LOT ACROSS THE STREET THEY WILL TOW YOU. The Pet Spa was great for my golden.  The online appointment system was easy to navigate and the staff is super friendly.  They took great care of my dog and had him bathed, dried, and smelling great in about an hour. Highly recommend this place.

We have brought our now two dogs here numerous times. We have a coonhound mix named Gypsy and a schnauzer mix named Shelby who are not well behaved, though friendly. This groomer is more expensive, sure, but every employee here treats your dog like it's their own baby. My dogs are thrilled to come into the shop each time, which truly means something. I called the morning of and they were able to squeeze me in which I really appreciated! I have an INSANE work schedule and my cat was in rough shape because I simply hadn't had time to bring him to the groomer. They took great care of him and he looks so cute!
