Q&As

Mental health and well being is so important. Being able to witness the journeys of personal growth through their confronted problems is a beautiful thing. The help is needed and we are here for it!

We all have our own journeys which bring us through many tough times. I'm inspired by the growth through the struggle and being able to help those who can't push through on their own.

AVIV offers a variety of animal assisted therapy services along with adventure therapy which ties in nature and open space. These services are unlike all other therapy services that can be found here in the south coast. Email, call, or visit our website to review what we can offer you. Please feel free to ask any questions!

Yes! We offer in-person and telehealth sessions. We can also offer a Hybrid option. For example, every other session or one session a month is in person while the other session are done remotely.

Our practice specializes in outdoor practices. Our sessions are held outside and in the open air. We hold sessions in all weather unless we deem it a safety issue. We can provide covered areas when needed and still keep safety as our number one priority. Masks or face shields are to be worn for the entirety of the session.

Services

The EAGALA Model is a team approach that includes a licensed, credentialed Mental Health Professional, a qualified Equine Specialist, and horses working together with the client in an arena at all times.

When inside the arena, all the work is done on the ground with the horses front and center, deliberately unhindered and never ridden, and allowed to interact with the client as they wish. This creates the space for the client, with the support of the professional facilitators, to reflect, project, and make deep connections.

Through Canine Therapy, clients can take part in socializing, training, and enjoying the benefits to working with a canine partner. By bringing in the element of an engaged dog, the therapeutic process feels more natural and facilitates more authentic communication between client and clinician.

Clients and clinicians become partners in the therapeutic process. By observing growth and change on the farm, one starts to believe that they too can grow and change. Farm based therapies have worked for clients across the lifespan, of all social and ethnic backgrounds, and those of diverse gender and sexual identities. The animals do not care about societal labels or pass any judgement, they encourage clients to have in the moment experiences with every encounter.

Adventure therapy promotes rehabilitation, growth, development, and enhancement of an individual’s physical, social, and psychological wellbeing through the application of structured activities involving direct experience. Adventure therapy includes the use of activities supported by traditional therapy. Sometimes adventure therapy is conducted in a group or family context. It uses the environment to elicit change by utilizing experience and action with cooperative games, trust, and activities, problem solving initiatives, high adventure, outdoor pursuits, and wilderness expeditions. After each activity, the group debriefs or processes in a group setting. Debriefing or processing involves a discussion where facilitators help participants internalize the experience and relate it to therapeutic goals.

Adventure Therapy is one of the several modalities AVIV clients may experience.
