What’s your interior design process?
Our interior design process commences by establishing an intellectual connection between our clients and our staff. This connection sets the stage for a shared vision, encompassing both the physical aspects of the project as well as the emotional and intellectual space needed for creativity and craftsmanship to flourish.
Engaging our clients emotionally and intellectually is a priority, achieved through a curated selection of "litmus boards." These boards elicit reactions and opinions on a broad range of design determinants, such as the interplay between warmth and coolness, the choice between vibrant colors or a monochrome palette, the balance between technicality and sleekness, or the preference for open expansiveness or a more contained aesthetic.
With our clients' input and their established consensus, we approach the seamless integration of interior design with the architectural framework. To assist in visualizing the overall concept, we create a bespoke mood board for the entire building, supported by specification boards for each individual room. These specification boards draw guidance and inspiration from the overarching mood board. Depending on the project, we may also tailor certain aspects, such as customizing the design of the staircase or focusing on more architecturally significant spaces like kitchens and bathrooms.
To complete the process, we pay meticulous attention to the styling and procurement of soft goods, ensuring a harmonious and cohesive final result.

By immersing ourselves in the nature of the client and their project, we combine in-person visions with cutting-edge VR technology to foster collaboration and bring ideas to life. Amidst the COVID-19 pandemic, our office successfully transformed from a locally-rooted practice in Bernal Heights, San Francisco, to a geographically diverse establishment, spanning Washington State, New York, Hawaii, and California.
This dramatic shift was made possible through our adoption of virtual reality (VR) technology. Leveraging VR, we have revolutionized our approach to remote collaboration with clients, working smarter and more efficiently than ever before.

Pre Design Feasibility
During this stage, we delve into comprehending your needs, goals, and budget meticulously. Thorough site analysis, evaluation of existing structures or conditions, and gathering information about zoning and code requirements are all part of this process. The outcome will be a comprehensive program that will serve as a guiding light throughout the design and construction journey.
Schematic Design
During this stage, the architect develops initial design concepts that encompass basic sketches, site plans, and initial architectural renderings. You will assess these options and offer feedback, leading to a final, mutually agreed-upon schematic design.
Activities include architectural concept design, evaluating and refining plans and elevations, ensuring code compliance, validating pricing estimates, exploring 3D massing alternatives, procuring consultants, interior concept design, creating moodboards, conducting litmus tests for desired look and feel, and documenting soft goods scope.
Design Development
During the design development phase, the architect advances the initial design from the Schematic Design stage, delving into finer details. This involves integrating specific materials, structural systems, HVAC systems, plumbing, electrical systems, and other essential elements. The architectural drawings undergo refinement, and an updated cost estimate is typically prepared to reflect these developments.
This phase encompasses a range of activities such as architectural design development, exterior and interior renderings, coordination with consultants, permitting submissions, and detailed specifications for furniture and lighting. It is a comprehensive process that ensures every aspect of the project is considered and visually represented.
Construction Documentation
During this crucial phase, the architect meticulously crafts detailed drawings and specifications. These meticulously crafted documents serve as both legal framework and invaluable guidance for the contractor, enabling them to ascertain the actual construction cost and commence building the project.
Our services include architectural construction drawings, consultant coordination, waterproofing design, MEP design/build specifications, exterior architectural finishes, project manual (specifications), bid tendering and negotiation, building permit submittals, interiors construction package, interior architectural finishes, custom millwork and architectural stairs, equipment and appliances specification, lighting and lighting controls, interior design implementation & styling, design boards for each room, furniture selections & procurement, and window & wall treatments.
Construction Administration
Throughout the construction process, the architect diligently oversees and assesses the work to ensure its alignment with the construction documents. Additionally, they provide guidance by addressing inquiries, scrutinizing contractor submittals, and efficiently managing any necessary design modifications.
In this phase, we engage in bid tendering, negotiation, construction observation, and management of all aspects of project completion, including finish submittal review and furniture delivery.
