Our little pup Poppy had the best time at Bark Avenue yesterday. I had heard good things from my friend but I always approach businesses with apprehension the first time I visit them - I felt a little nervous dropping Poppy off but I loved receiving a report card part way through the day, with photos of her playing and a list of friends she had made! She was tuckered out by the end of the day and was so happy when I picked her up!I also got her a lo-shed bath package and she looked awesome when I picked her up - her nails had been trimmed and she was so soft. My dog always comes back from the groomers looking great! The groomer always listens to how I want him cut and he comes back happy! First of all, Ankeny Bark Avenue employs one of the top groomers in the area. Her name is Rachel, and we have followed her from place to place as she is in great demand, and we are happy she landed at Bark Avenue. We have two little fluff-balls that are hard to groom, one of them older, a bit of a cranky-pants due to some serious injuries in her adventurous past, and Rachel and the rest of the Bark Avenue team know them, get their little quirks, and treat them like they were their very own.We have not used their boarding facilities, but they are clean, well-organized, and it appears they've created a community of regulars.Always a good sign.Cannot recommend Ankeny Bark Avenue highly enough. Lucy loves doggy daycare. Her ears perk up when we pull into the parking lot. She comes into the building smiling. The staff always give her a great big, "WELCOME. " The staff are wonderful. Our puppy has been going to Bark Avenue in Ankeny since he was just 4 months old. He loves it every time he gets to go and spend a day with his friends at day care. Staff was extremely accommodating and loving with my small dog. I read the reviews of other clients whom were not satisfied the communication of fees and vaccinations. If you have animals which go to public places for interaction with other animals, of course you are going to have to have your pets vaccinations up to date. Your failure to prepare should not cause others to suffer your pour decision making. The concern about fees not being refunded; I have found that if you have VALID issue for cancellation of classes/day care, people will work with you. People are inherently kind and will help if they are able. The folks at Bark Avenue were accommodating and willing to go the extra mile to make sure we were happy with their service. You do not become "Best of Ankeny" eight years in a row with the need to build a new larger building without treating your customers with care. More...

I have 2 dogs that just completed the 10 day puppy boot camp at Bark Avenue and I can't say thank you enough! This one on one training was amazing! Our main issue was going for walks, I completely dreaded them! Now when we go they don't have to greet everyone we meet or pull to get to our next stop. That's huge! It all started when I realized I would never allow a child to act the way our dog was acting when we had visitors.
After a mini meltdown and a call to my husband I decided we were ready for some help from Ankeny Bark Avenue.
I should tell you a little about our dog. His name is Ike. He is nearly four years old. He is a super sweet, loving, and adorable boxer. Fetch is his favorite game. We tried some in home training with a trainer after our son was born. It was a good start but as life got busy we canceled some sessions, quickly stopped the routine, and ended up with the same behaviors we had before including jumping on visitors, barking, grumbling, and energy beyond an indoor level.
When I called Ankeny Bark Avenue I was prepared to drive the hour and 45 minutes every week for as long as I needed if it would help our dog not be out of control. The staff at Ankeny Bark Avenue shared with me some options. After talking it over with my husband we decided to do the Bond-Based Training, 10 day Puppy Boot Camp. Since this would be an in-house program, we both were a little sad to think about not having our dog around for 10 days. At the end of the 10 days we met with the staff and they taught us all of Ike’s new commands and abilities. We were excited to get home and continue what Ike had learned with Ana at Ankeny Bark Avenue.
So it has nearly been 2 weeks since Ike finished Puppy Boot Camp. I am thrilled to share he has been doing awesome. We have had guest 3 times (including children) and the grocery delivery. He has been able to handle all of these events with grace. I also want to add, now when we go for walks, we no longer have the dog that is pulling and trying to catch every leaf that blows by, but rather a well behaved beautiful dog.
Going through Puppy Boot Camp has helped to make our house a little less crazy!

Our 2 boys spent a night while we were out of town. One was to get a nail trim and the other a bath. They both looked great and we received pictures with the report card. I brought my pup here when he was around 3-4 months old. He did perfect! He did get sick though, but being a young puppy still, he’s prone to anything so not the daycares fault! I had boarded/daycare my puppy at another facility (4 paws unleashed) when I picked him up. I believe that he was fed food/objects that he was not supposed to have. I also believe he was abused by how his mannerism was when I picked him up and how he has been acting since then. DO NOT take your dogs there!! Anyways, I just took him back again this week to do daycare at Bark, he was so excited when we walked in. The pictures taken throughout the day showed my dog playing with others and having fun! The girls at the front desk are very sweet! I would definitely recommend Bark Avenue to anyone! � (I love the report card at the end of the day too!) More...
