I have seen Denise Kirsop every other week for over 8 months. She has gently walked alongside me as I process, grieve, and move beyond an abusive “Christian” marriage and divorce. Denise created a safe space (in both marital counseling and our individual sessions), has made sure I don’t get “stuck” anywhere in the healing process, and consistently speaks Biblical Truth. I especially appreciate her ability to help me distinguish where my responsibility does and does not lie in all this mess, in a kind way, giving me a clear picture of myself (both the “good” and the “bad”), something that is very necessary for continued healing. As other abuse survivors may understand, I also really appreciate Denise’s accurate perception of my ex-husband, as it keeps me from neither extreme of having to defend him (the occasional instances his behavior was not abusive) nor convince her of the damages he inflicted – freeing me up to focus my attention and energy on myself.
